  1. Temp (.tmp) and old (.old) files are just that. They'yre temporary or old. If you're running a really old app on your PC you may want to keep it, but that's usually not the case. Temp files are regenerated if needed again so they're safe to delete.

Logs are logs. Bedtime reading material. You can save them or delete them. I usually delete them.

The Windows\System32\CatRoot2 file I would leave alone till someone more knowledgable than I posts here.

  2. Create a System Restore point just to be doubly safe. When you use CCleaners' Registry cleaner app and you hit "Clean" it asks if you want to back-up your files. Choose yes and save them in your My Documents folder or wherever. If there's a problem afterwards, click on that file you saved and it will restore all your removed registry items.

Make it a point to take a look at every item before you delete the whole bunch. If you see something that looks like you might need it or if it's for an app you have, you can 'uncheck' it and it won't be deleted with the rest.

  3. Yeah, it's not grinding away anymore so I turned off "Generate VRDB Now" and turned on "Generate when computer is idle". So I'll leave it as is.

  4. My sis's computer was acting up so I drove over and took a looksee. After I installed & ran MBAM and got rid of 2 trojans and a rootkit it worked fine. But she had Symantec AV. I told her about Avast and got rid of Symantec, installed Avast Home free, registered her, turned off the sounds, disabled that VRDB or whatever it is. So now she's doing okay. Yes, I ran CCleaner and got rid of 150 MB of junk.
