Thanks a lot...I will try them.

One more thing that is kind of interesting.

I had set up an additional user on this computer (User 2).  Edge works fine when I log in as this user.  Can't figure that out!

    That is interesting,

User profiles can become corrupted which can give strange problems, up to and including not being able to log into that account.

Sometimes it can be fixed, sometimes is suggested to create a new Admin user and just delete the old corrupted one.
(It's usually suggested when nothing else seems to be fixing strange issues).

Take a look at this article:
    https://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-10/how-to-fix-a-corrupt-user-profile-in-windows-10/

  2. Nothing stands out as being odd there, so I'd try a shotgun approach. (not literally, shooting your computer will cause it to stop working).

Although probably not related, I would check that your Norton 360 is up to date, we had another user recently who's Norton 360 was saying it was up to date when it wasn't.
In Norton 360 the version number should be shown in Help>About
    https://www.nortonlifelockpartner.com/faq/art/how-do-i-check-the-version-of-my-norton-security-software-including-patch/

The latest version as of 20th August 2021 is 22.21.6.53
    https://www.nortonlifelockpartner.com/faq/art/what-is-the-latest-version-of-norton-security/

If you can get into Edge then I would also try disabling those extensions to see if either of them is causing an issue.
Particularly the video downloader. There is an 'always ongoing' war between Youtube and video downloaders that can have odd effects at times as Youtube change things to try and block people downloading.
(Earlier this year just trying to watch Youtube would crash Edge Chromium for some people).

Same with the homepage, temporarily change it to something else to see if that makes a difference.

I'd run  DISM, with the Restorehealth option, followed by sfc /scannow, just to be sure that the system image is OK. (DISM in particular can take some time).
    https://www.howtogeek.com/222532/how-to-repair-corrupted-windows-system-files-with-the-sfc-and-dism-commands/

You could also try booting Win 10 into 'Safe Mode with Networking' to see if Edge behaves itself there.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-10-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234

Sometimes though issues with Microsoft apps like Edge defy all efforts, until they suddenly start working properly again after a Windows Update.

  3. That's a question of how much RAM a device has as opposed to how much Data Storage it has.

When your phone is saying 'storage full' it actually means that the RAM is full, not the Data storage.

All computing devices have 2 types of memory.
Data storage memory, which holds all your data, files, photos, downloads, apps, etc.
RAM (Random Access Memory) which is what the system and apps use to store temporary data while they are running, they write and read things to and from RAM all the time that they are running. (Some app also 'reserve' RAM they are not actually using now but may want to use later).

If you 'Restart' your phone (or computer) it will clear out whatever is in the RAM, the Data storage will not be cleared. (That's what CCleaner clears, the junk in Data storage).

With most phones you can add SD cards to be able to store extra data, files, photos, etc. but you are not able to increase the physical RAM.

As the running apps all use the  RAM how many you can have running at once depends on how much RAM you have in that device.
Plus newer versions of apps tend to need more RAM than older versions did.
If you run more apps than the RAM can handle at once then the phone slows down or stops altogether.

Which is why phones are sold with different amounts of RAM, for example the Samsung S20 comes with either 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of RAM.
The 16GB RAM version can run more apps at once than the 8GB or the 12GB.
You pay your money and take your choice.

The data storage on a S20 is much higher with options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, and you can add extra with a micro SD card, up to 1.5 TB.
(Oddly the newer S21 does not have a card slot).

With computers/laptops it is fairly easy to swap out the existing RAM chips for higher capacity RAM chips, but phone chips are made differently and you can't do that.

With Android phones there are ways to use some of the data storage memory (or some of an SD cards memory) as extra RAM, but it involves 'Rooting' the phone which is a technical process. (And may void your warranty, although that's not usually a worry with an older phone).
Also note that it doesn't work with all makes of phone.
    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/add-ram-android-device-microsd-card/

PS. On a practical side that might be of more help -
I also have an old smartphone with only 2GB RAM.
I only open apps when I'm using them and when I'm not I use the Task Manager to stop them running. (On my old Galaxy pressing the centre button opens the task manager and you just swipe running apps off the screen to close them).
That way I never have more than 4 or 5 apps open/running at once and the  2GB RAM can cope with that.
It's opening another, then another, then another, ...., without closing any and so leaving them all running in the background that takes up the RAM.
(I've had friends ask me to look at why their phone is running slow and on looking they have had as many as 30 or 40 apps open at once using all the RAM).

  4. Well, there are two options - you can either just keep ignoring it altogether  - or try to work out what is causing it to crash and fix it.

PS. Looking about the web you are not the only one having this particular problem with Edge Chromium.

Before suggesting things to try let's go back to basics with a few questions,

Can you tell us which version and build of Windows 10 you are running? You can find that in Settings>System>About.

    image.png

And which antivirus/version you are using if it isn't Windows Defender.

Are you using a Microsoft Account to log into Windows, or a Local Account?

Is this the old Edge or Edge Chromium? (It should be Edge Chromium but it's always possible that you may still have the old one).
You can tell by the icon, Edge Chromium icon looks like my screenshot in the Apps & Features screenshot above. Old Edge looks more like an 'e'.

Have you added any extensions/add-ons to Edge?

Have you set a 'Homepage' for Edge rather than it's standard homepage?

  5. Just close it using the X in the top right of the window, pause it first if you like.

I don't take much notice of predicted time-to-go in any app; they can be wildly out. (Even Windows updates jump from 0% to 100% in seconds).

How big is the disc? TB discs can take a long time to do a full disc defrag.

In Defraggler after doing an analyse click 'view files' then the tickbox at the top of the list, then 'defrag checked'.

That defragments the files and is quicker than a disc defrag.

  6. "Cleaning" does not always mean removal, although some files will be totally removed.

But it also happens that CCleaner will delete/remove certain files to clear the data they contain, and then the operating system will immediately recreate them as empty files of the same size.
So the junk has been cleaned out but the file is still there and still the same size taking up the same space.

Or to put it another way the space has been emptied, or the space 'saved' so you can use it again, but the container for that space is still there and still the same size.

Think of it like emptying a drawer full (or even only half full) of old letters - the rubish has gone and the space can be used again, but the drawer is still there and still taking up the same space.
Iit's now just waiting to be filled up with more letters again (until next time you empty it).

  7. @salbai62thanks for posting that error code.

The error code is a server error indicating that there is a problem with a Site Security Licence, usually it's just because the SSL is out of date and needs renewing.
(SSLs renewal dates are easily overlooked and you'll often see SSL errors when browsing the web).

So it looks like the problem is not at your end but at a server end.

@Dave CCleaneris the SSL for the licence/registration server OK?

Anyway I have decided to disable the notification.

That's your choice, and the easiest way to stop the notifications.

But you should be aware that whatever is causing Edge to open/close every 5 minutes like that will still be happening; you just won't have CCleaner telling you about it.

Whatever is causing the odd behaviour with Edge may also give you other odd problems elsewhere. (Or Edge may just fix itself with the next Windows cumulative update?)
If/when you have time it may be worth looking at those fixes for Edge in the link I gave, just to be on the safe(er) side.

PS. The issue with the screenshot attachment being in the wrong post (my post instead of yours) is a bug in the software that the forum runs on. I've also seen it happen on another forum (Malwarebytes Forum) that runs on the same forum software. It's very unusual, but something that the makers of the forum software will have to look at.

  9. @jqa2003

I assume that's your screenshot of the notification that wouldn't post for you?
At least we can see it now, 😄

For some reason it seems to have now attached itself to the bottom of my latest post, and my latest screenshot has also repeated itself.
The forum software occasionally works in mysterious ways.

I'll leave them where they are for now, I don't want to edit that post further while I ask the Forum Administrator take a look at what happened.

  10. That's good,
so you have all your browsers set to clean when closed, and to notify you that the cleaning has been done.

    You have two options;

    1. We can keep working to try and find out why your Edge Chromium is constantly opening and closing on your machine.
(That could be a fault in Edge itself, or another Microsoft app that is opening/closing Edge on a schedule, or a bit of both).

    2. You can ignore that it's happening and simply tell CCleaner not to give you any notification about Edge Chromium being closed.
(That doesn't cure what is causing it to keep opening/closing but stops ccleaner telling/nagging you about it).

If you choose the second one then on that screen where it says "Automatically clean on closing with notification" next to Edge Chromium click the little down-arrow.
    You can then choose from:
"Automatically clean on closing without notification" - Smart Cleaning  will keep cleaning it (every time it closes) but won't give you the notification.
"Disabled" - Smart Cleaning will not keep cleaning it. You'll need to run CCleaner manually to clean it.
(The other 3 options there will all give you a notification about something).

    image.png

Agian: Note that if you use one of those option you are not stopping whatever keeps opening/closing Edge Chromium, you are just telling CCleaner not to tell you about it.

Now as to what is the cause of the problem, you last post may give a clue:

    Quote

..... message that Ccleaner has cleaned Edge This happened as soon as I got on computer and before I opened Edge this morning

That could indicate that Edge is trying to load in the background when you start your machine, but is crashing for some reason.
That isn't so unusual and you can try some of the fixes here:
Note that the first thing it tells you to do is run CCleaner, I think you can safely say you've already done that, - but do 'Restart' your machine before trying any of the other fixes.
Note - that's a "Restart"  (Click the Windows Start icon, click Power, click Restart) and not a Shutdown.
Then try the other fixes one at a time, checking after each one to see if Edge is now behaving itself.

  11. The thread where you originally posted this was from 2 years ago, and was about the 'Software Updater'. (There wasn't a Driver Updater at that time).
You also have a different error code to the one there. (Error 91613 is a new code to us users).

However I do note from your screenshot that you have CCleaner Free version.

To actually update the drivers you have to have a CCleaner Pro licence.

CCleaner is just showing you the wrong message, and should instead be saying that you need a Pro licence to update drivers.

I'll flag it up to the staff that the wrong message is being shown to you.
EDIT: They are aware and will be changing the message, probably in the next CCleaner update.

  12. The Bundled licences can be used on both PC and MAC.

However CCleaner for Android has to have a different licence, which need to be purchased through the Google Play Store.
It's all to do with how Google make money.

Les licences groupées peuvent être utilisées sur PC et MAC.

Cependant, CCleaner pour Android doit avoir une licence différente, qui doit être achetée via le Google Play Store.
Tout dépend de la façon dont Google gagne de l'argent.

  13. I got caught when first upgrading to Win 10 and signed up for a MS account, not quite compulsory but they made it bloody difficult not to.

As @crizal suggests I soon switched it to a local account, and deleted the MS account.
Did you know it takes six months to delete a MS account? Whilst they nag you to change your mind and keep it.

Just like XP and 7, Windows 10 will continue in use well after it's EOL, as long as the machines keep working.

Maybe COP26 should have a blast at Microsofts policy making lots of perfectly usable kit 'obsolete'?
Lots of kit will be junked as users buy new kit that supports Win 11, and the environmental impact of manufacturing that new kit will not be negligible.
Perhaps of more concern, lots of the old kit will be burnt on bonfires in India/Africa to extract the copper, aluminium, gold and other metals in there, it already happens.
    https://www.wired.co.uk/article/ghana-ewaste-dump-electronics
Lots of burning plastic, and 'exotic' materials used in the chips, putting all kinds of toxic fumes into the atmosphere.

  14. Assuming that this is CCleaner on your PC, (and not CCleaner for Android on your phone).

Firstly you need to use 'Custom Clean' and not 'Health Check'. (You can't change what Health Check cleans).

    Next:
If you are using an email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) you need to 'Exclude' the email clients app from being cleaned by Custom Clean.

If you are accessing your email through a browser (webmail) then you will need to make sure that Custom Clean is not clearing 'Saved Passwords' and/or 'Session' for that browser. (Untick them for that browser).

In both cases you should also set Custom Clean to 'Exclude' any cookies being used by the email.

    Maybe easier, but less secure:
You could check your email client/webpage login to see if you can turn the 2 Factor Authentication text messaging off, but of course doing that leaves your email account less secure. (And you would still need to login each time, but that's more secure than staying logged in all the time).
TBH there is not much point in having 2FA enabled if you are going to stay logged in all the time anyway.
(Although there is a reason for doing that it's less than half the point of using 2FA).

A point to note is that for security/privacy reasons certain apps do not allow you to stay logged in, often email, banking, utility accounts, etc.
They will automatically log you out after a certain time inactive.
So you have to login to them everytime you use them, using 2FA (text message) if you have it enabled.

  15. CCleaner does not do that. CCleaner is a junk cleaner, with a few other maintenance tools.

It's more likely your antivirus/antimalware that is blocking a programme from making changes.

CCleaner is not an antivirus and can't block other programmes.

    Having noted that:
OLB most commonly stands for 'Online Bible' - Why a Bible would be trying to change files could be a worry.

There are a couple of backup apps that include a file named OLBPre.exe which is commonly linked to Adware, so your AV may have seen that.
Check your Antivirus logs and 'un-quarantine'/whitelist the app if you still want to risk it.
Otherwise uninstall that backup app and choose a more reliable one.

  16. Sorry but that's the wrong page, the Smart Cleaning like this:

    image.png

PS. You can use 'alt+prt scr' to screenshot just the active window rather than the full screen.
Or use 'Snip & Sketch' from the Start menu to caputre a smaller area like I did there, once you've captured a snip you can paste it straight into your post.

If you could also capture the notification that you are seeing then that should help us see just what is causing it.

  17. As Edge is now Chromium based this sounds like some mix up between Edge chromium and Chrome itself.

My thinking is that Edge is leaving something running (or restarting something) in the background that opening Chrome itself then closes again; thus giving the message that Edge has closed (again).

Could you tell us if you have any extensions/add-ons/plug-ins enabled in Edge?

    And then any in Chrome?

PS. Those notifications can be turned off - but it's better to find what is causing them and stop that from causing them in the first place.

  18. It often takes a day or two to add the remaining time on, they say up to 15 days but that is unusual.
Plus today is a Bank Holiday here in the UK so that could cause a delay.

Having said that it will not be added automatically if you had more than 90 days left on the old licence, if you are that early it's assumed you are buying a second licence.
Although that should not apply here.

If the time remaining hasn't updated in a couple of days then drop an email to support@ccleaner.com and they will make sure that the remaining time gets adjusted.

  19. We recommend that you don't regularly use the Registry Cleaner with Windows 10, only use it if you have a specific problem.
Windows 10 changes the registry often which can give false results.
For the official Piriform advice on using the Registry Cleaner see this:

And here is Microsofts stance on using any Registry Cleaner:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities
