  1. Your update setting is fine,

With millions of users out there it just takes time to send the update to them all.

If, like yourself, you notice there is an update before its has been automatically sent to you then you can always update manually if you don't want to wait.
Just click on the 'Check for Updates'. (or download and install manually).

With most software it's usually better to wait for the automatic update to come through to you.

  2. There appears to have been an issue with the offers in the v5.68 installer - the image for the offers flashed up but then sometimes dissapeared and just left the 2 buttons.
Looks like it has now been quickly fixed once reported. (By stopping the offers for now).

There should have been a pretty clear page with 'Decline' and 'Accept' buttons for the CCleaner Browser offer, but you may only have seen the 2 buttons so thought you were just accepting the CCleaner install.
    Browser offer.JPG

PS. Note the pre-ticked box there that will make CCleaner Browser your default if you accept the offer.
If it's done that then open the browser that you usually use and set that as the default again.

    Do you normally use Chrome?
CCleaner Browser is Chromium based so may just be seeing the bookmarks etc. that you already had saved for Chrome

You may find that the browser install has also changed some file associations, and how their icons look. (PDF's are the ones that most people notice first).
Again it's something that installing a new browser often does unless you tell it not to.
If it has done that then it's easy to change them back, see this: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/57890-don/?tab=comments#comment-318193

What I hope to have answered before I buy:

Current price for a next year licence renewal for Professional and Professional Plus

Confirmation that "  If you choose not to renew your license, you can keep using the product but you won't receive updates with feature improvements and bug fixes, and you won't be able to benefit from priority support."  AND you do not lose any of the features and functions in the program you bought and updates delivered up the expiry of the year  licence.

The current price of CCleaner Pro is different from country to country, each country has different taxes.
There are also regular 'Sale' offers and promotions.

If you are asking about next years 'standard' renewal prices, they will be affected by the taxes in each country at that time so without a crystal ball ....
(Hint: the CCleaner 'Sales' are regular throughout the year, there will no doubt be another sale this time next year if you want to buy a new licence key at sale price then and so still have Priority Support and Automatic Updates).

As the "How long is my license valid for?" says:

The subscription to Pro gives you access to the extra Pro features, and one year of Priority Support and Automatic Updates.

After a year the Priority Support and Automatic Updates will stop - unless you renew your subscription, or have automatic renewal.
The other Pro features will still work. (EDIT- That seems to have changed as policy but is still working for now, see Dave CCleaner's post 3 down from this).

All the extra Pro features can be seen in the free version, but they are labled 'PRO' and disabled so they can't be used.
As you already have the Free version then you can see just what those features are and decide if they are worth it to you for the cost of a licence.

  4. Could you give more details of what you are doing, and what is happening or not happening?

Are you trying to set a schedule in CCleaner itself, or through Windows?

CCleaner version, Windows version, and AV in use are also usually helpful.

  5. Because your active logins in each browser are saved as cookies for that browser; so if you clear those cookies then the active login is cleared, and you have to log in again next time.

Health Check will always clear those cookies.

If you use Custom Clean then you can identify the cookies and tell CCleaner to 'keep' them and not clear them. (so you won't be logged out).
    See this: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep

Again- Health Check will always clear those cookies. (Regardles of whether you have told Custom Clean to keep them).

NOTE- It's not just CCleaner that may do this, you may have your browser(s) set to delete cookies when you close the browser, which will also log you out of any sites that you are logged into.

  6. Hard to say; but at about 18% my guess is that it's probably sticking on something in Edge or Edge Chromium, possibly something in Internet Explorer.
Do you use one or more of those browsers?

But those should be on the OS disk which should be 'awake' anyway.
Do you have anything that would normally be on the OS disc redirected to another disc?

As it's only 'sometimes' then it makes it harder to track down. (It always does with intermittent issues).
It may be that something CCleaner is trying to clean is on an inactive disc, that would depend just what is on them and how you use them.
It may be that something is ocassionally running in the background when you run Health Check, and Health Check can't close or handle it?
(If it was happening everytime then it would indicate maybe a browser, or something else, pre-loading and running in the background).

One thing that often helps if CCleaner is 'sticking' is to do a run with the Windows built in Disk Clean-up.
It takes a lot longer that CCleaner but can sometimes clear jams that CC can't.
I don't think it would help here, but it can't hurt and it's a good idea to do one occassionally anyway. (I do one about monthly).

I'm assuming that you don't have all sub-categories for those 3 Windows browsers ticked in Custom Clean?
If so then one of the unticked catagories could be what Health Check is getting stuck on.

Something to try straight after Health Check has frozen, so you know that the problem exists at that time.
Close the frozen health check, relaunch CCleaner, and switch to Custom Clean.
Try right-clicking each unticked category in turn and selecting analyze (not clean) from the popup menu.
If the analyze baulks at one of them then that indicates the culprit.
You could also try that for any other unticked items in Custom Clean.

TBH regular (long time) users prefer to use Custom Clean anyway - it gives more control over just what is and isn't cleaned.
It doesn't automatically run the 'Software Updater' or 'Startup' tools each time, but you can easily run those manually from the Tools menu if/when you want to.
To set Custom Clean as the default go to Options>Settings and change 'CCleaner Home Screen' to 'Custom Clean'.

  7. I don't think that these were photos on your phone (which is why they are not there to be recovered) but rather links to chats/messages.
So because the links were no longer there the thumbnails had gone blank, and restarting the phone removed the blanks.

Did you have 'Chat Backup' enabled in Whatsapp?
If so then you may be able to get them back - if it hasn't made another backup since you deleted them (So if it is enabled you may want to turn it off to prevent that happening).

This article tells you how recover a chat backup, read and understand it all before trying anything,  if you are not sure then ask someone who knows more about Whatsapp on Android to help.
There is also a link there to another article "Here’s How to Recover Deleted Photos from Whatsapp" which many be of help.
    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/accidentally-deleted-whatsapp-chat-history-heres-get-back/

You may be better asking for help with this on a dedicated Whatsapp for Android forum, such as this one:
    https://www.androidpit.com/forum/whatsapp
I don't know it so don't know how good it is, it's just one that came up on a Google search, but it looks popular with a good turnover of questions/answers.

  8. You hadn't mentioned that it was on a phone and had posted in the general CCleaner (Windows) area.

There are seperate forum areas for Android or Mac.

Is it Android or an iPhone? (I'll move the thread to the correct section).

The basic answer would be the same though, it looks as though your thumbnails have been cleared.

    Try this for Android: https://www.recovery-android.com/fix-no-thumbnails-displayed-in-android.html

Try this if it's an iPhone: https://appletoolbox.com/repair-and-rebuild-missing-or-incorrect-thumbnails-in-photos/

i cleaned my gacha as usual,

I'm not sure just what you mean by that? Something to do with videos in Youtube isn't it?

CCleaner would not delete your photos or videos. (Unless you explicitly told it to with an 'Include').

As the links are still showing I suspect that it's the Youtube thumbnails that have gone missing.

The links to the videos themselves should still be there, and should open if you double click on the filename, or the blank square.

Firstly I would try Restarting your computer, (not shutting down and booting again), and then going to Youtube and seeing if the thumbnails are back.

If that doesn't work then try some of the other options here:
    https://www.regendus.com/youtube-thumbnails-not-showing/

  10. Which CCleaner version are you trying to register?
Which Windows version are you using?
(and to maybe save time later which AV are you using?)

What you describe with the 2 fields was the old registration boxes.
Newer versions now have the boxes on two seperate pages, one after the other.
You can see both old and new styles in this article:
    https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844--Problems-activating-or-registering-CCleaner-Professional

It's odd that you say you had already copied and pasted your key in before the 2 box screen came up.
It should show you a single box for the key, and then a single box for your name.
Why the double boxes should be unlabled I also don't know, but you shouldn't have got them anyway.

Refer to the first picture in that link above.
The top, long, box is where you put your name as registered. (It should be stated on the confirmation email along with the key).
The series of boxes below is where the key goes,.

I'd try again and if it shows the double boxes again then put your name as registered in the top one and the key in the bottom one.

  11. How far does Health Check get before it hangs?
ie. How far has the green bar got in the 'Checking your PC's health' section.

What happens if you use Custom Clean instead of Health Check?
Do the drives 'wake up' then.

(I'm trying to assess if it's the cleaning of the drives, or if it's one of the other tools in Health Check that may be causing the hang).

  12. 1) I would guess that's because the scanned drive may be later modified by having new files written to it, which would make any saved scan invalid.

So having to rescan would be the safer option than a possibly invalid saved scan, and not a real problem in the past.
But with todays larger drives a rescan can take a lot longer.

  13. If the link you have won't work then simply download/install CCleaner Free and enter your new key and registered name.

See "Where do I enter my license key?" in this FAQ: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844--Problems-activating-or-registering-CCleaner-Professional

If you are still having problems then you can contact customer support directly.
You can find the contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

  14. Here is an article about Windows Integrity Levels and user access. (It also briefly mentions the 'hidden' Windows Administrator).
    https://www.techspot.com/guides/1718-run-as-administrator-explained/

Still doesn't realy explain what you are seeing though.

You might be interested in - 'holding only Shift while you right-click on the file will add "Run as a different user..." to the context menu'.
Which would allow you to run apps as the regular user without having to sign out of your admin account and sign in as the user.

  15. It is a duplicate file finder, so you may have to do directories manually, using either Windows File Explorer, or 'rmdir' in the command window, or 'remove-items' in powershell.

rmdir (can be shortened to 'rd') will not remove folders that contain files.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/rd

remove-items in powershell will also check if the folder is empty.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/microsoft.powershell.management/remove-item?view=powershell-7

Both methods support wildcards, which should be used with care.

Sorry if those are too technical, if you are no comfortable with using them then to be safe(r) use File Explorer and delete the empty directories after checking that they are empty.

  16. Admin rights are not quite that simple with Win10.

There are Admin users, regular users can have temporarily elevated (admin) privileges via the UAC (Run as administrator) but that's not quite the same as an Admin user, - and then there is the 'hidden' Windows Administrator which has more rights than the others.

I've not really looked into the differences between an Admin user and a regular user with temporarily elevated privileges.

I suspect that an admin account still does not have full privileges to other user accounts/files which is why you are seeing different results?

PS. The 'hidden' Windows Administrator is  'hidden' for a reason and should not be used as a regular account, that would be a big security risk.

  17. If you have 'every box under Chrome unchecked' in CCleaner then Custom Clean will leave Chrome alone altogether.

Health Check will still clear some things Chrome related, which will include cookies and so willl log you out of some websites.
That's a security measure so that if someone else gets their hands on your machine then they are not automatically logged into your accounts just by opening Chrome.

As you have Chrome unchecked in Custom Clean then I suspect that you have Chrome itself set to automatically clear your cookies on closing, thus logging you out of sites when you close Chrome. (Again it's the same security measure).

See this for how to change those settings in Chrome:
    https://www.howtogeek.com/137681/how-to-automatically-clear-private-data-when-you-close-your-browser/

    Quote

Note that, if you set your browser to automatically clear your cookies when you close it, you will have to log into the websites you use each time you open your browser.

If you use 'Private Browsing' that also will not save your 'logged-in' status with a website when you close Chrome, and so you will have to log into sites again next time you open Chrome. (Again it's the same security measure).

All these different things log you out of websites when you close/clean the browser for a reason, it's not realy safe to automatically log into websites.
Imagine if your laptop automatically logs into your bank account when you visit the website, then imagine that someone steals (or finds) your laptop and so is straight into your bank account without any password, your money would be there for long.
It doesn't have to be your bank account, they would have access to all your emails, could send emails from your name, could post things on your Facebook page, etc. etc.

  18. As this thread is over six years old then maybe it might have been better to start a new one of your own.
(A lot of things change in six years).

Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean?
(Health check didn't exist in 2014).

And are you also using winapp2 like the original poster was in 2014?

The option in standard CCleaner Custom Clean that will usually log you out of websites is 'Session' for whichever browser you are using.
If you are using Custom Clean then try unticking 'session' under the Chrome options.

  19. I only have HDDs, and don't have any scheduled defragging/optimisation set (other than what Windows does itself).

I just run Defraggler weekly/fortnightly and do the following:
Analyze>View Files>Check/tick the files found, and then 'Defrag checked'.

(Don't be worried if it says some files can't be defragged and that it's aborted. That's because a few files may be open or locked, it's done those it can and will get the rest next time).

  20. If it's a HDD then yes you can defragment.
(With SDD's nowadays it is also valid to defrag a SDD in some circumstances, Win 10 will do it about once a month if you have certain Windows settings).

Wrongly recognised drive types has been an ongoing problem for a while.
Defraggler (and Speccy) get their drive type information from Windows, and even (parts of) Windows can have problems distinguishing the drive type.

This has been show up in the recent Win 10 v2004 upgrade where Windows own defragmenter is now defragmenting SSD's too often, and also attempting to Trim HDD's.
    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-10-alert-defragger-bug-defrags-ssd-drives-too-often/

Maybe that will now give Microsoft a kick in the pants to look into the issue.
