  1. box.net is an awesome service, allowing 1GB of free space and lots more at a low cost. They also let you edit documents, spreadsheets, etc. from right inside their website without needing any software installed. You can send and share files as well.
  2. The conspiracy theorists among us would say "You have some Malware that is causing all your troubles." They would likely also recommend Malwarebytes for removing it.
  3. That video is epic I've bookmarked it and intend to download it as soon as I can get Video Download Helper working on Minefield.
  4. You are still mistaken as to what Wipe Free Space actually does. It DOES NOT delete any files whatsoever. It only removes traces of files that you have already deleted. If you know of specific files that are missing on your External HDD, try Recuva. It should allow you to search for, and subsequently recover files that you have accidentally deleted. The files filled with gibberish are junk created by the Wipe Free Space tool to fill the empty space on your drive; making the recovery of deleted files more difficult. They are deleted when the wipe free space process is completed, however in your case were left behind because you canceled the program while it was running. If the files cannot be deleted after a restart you could try using FileAssassin.
  5. Despite being a Firefox user, I've always been an 'in the closet' Opera fan. There are so many area in which it absolutely murders Firefox (such as speed, User Interface etc) yet I still can't bring myself to make the switch.
  6. Resource editor works with CCleaner, but not overly well. I tried to replace the header with a gradient black. The black showed up quite well, but the gradient didn't
  7. The grunt of ccleaner is a single .exe file, so whenever new features are added or bugs fixed, that file must be replaced. The only way you can do that is with a reinstall.
  8. Lyronx, cut out the argumentativeness. Where did I say that it was fake? Please read the comments properly before getting defensive.
  9. Aqua is saying that toolbars packaged with software of this kind is almost always a sign of spyware/fake software. Personally I would touch the program you have recommended since your post seems more like spam than an actual plug.
  10. In my minefield install ads are blocked, however I cannot add new filters or add elements to the "blacklist" via a context menu. I'm not 100% sure that I have the newest minefield or the newest ABP though. Either way; it looks like the issues are being sorted quickly
  11. Looks like the problem has already been fixed - that was quick
  12. This is a bit pointless in once sense, since US law only applies to people in the United States. Most of the file-sharing websites are hosted in Malaysia, Sweden etc. where such laws do not exist or are simply not enforced.
  13. Well, I think if Defraggler wants to to a better job then all the more power to it
  14. Given that its only 10mb; it really won't make much of a difference. Lots of software, particularly anti-virus software is constantly scraping your drive when defragmenting and Windows is constantly reading and writing data on your drive. Keeping your drive in the same state for an entire defragmentation is basically impossible. The best thing you can do it run defraggler frequently and just hope that it consolidates the files that it missed previously. You could also try to boot in safe mode, I'm not sure how well defraggler will perform under those conditions though...
  15. Actually, the IE9 platform preview is available for download on the Microsoft site. Its support for CSS3 & HTML5 is quite impressive.
  16. I suggest you remove fixio immediately and run an anti-virus scan with Malwarebytes and/or Trend Micro Housecall (both can be found via Google). You have been scammed into buying fake software that it actually harming your computer. If possible, try and get your money back.
  17. How much time did Defraggler take to complete the operation compared to Auslogics?
  18. Defraggler does not use any functionality from Flash. Flash is for web animation and media, not for application programming. (Although I admit actionscript does have excellent support for complex mathematical problems) The high CPU usage is most probably caused by a lack of RAM on your computer (anything under 2GB is very low these days) or by some malware which is consuming cpu cycles. You could try removing some items from starting with Windows (CCleaner has a tool to do this) and also run some anti-virus/anti-malware scans with free programs. I recommend Malwarebytes and Trend Micro Housecall, both can be found with a simple Google search since I can't be bothered fetching links.
  19. Were you using the secure file deletion method? If you only use fast delete then files can easily be recovered.
  20. The web developers would be even happier if she went to a Gecko or Webkit based browser, but alas some people love their *trusty* old IE.
  21. I'm not saying the products are worse, look at Malwarebytes, Firefox, CCleaner, Avast etc. All great free products. The point is freebies generally don't have the most reliable support system. Free programs usually don't have a dedicated support team, whereas paid software usually does.
  22. I would go with Avast - Its the only one I haven't had a problem with yet. Avira is good too Make sure you have a secondary scanning program if you are going with a freebie though, personally I am a HUGE Malwarebytes fan.
  23. Defraggler is: - Slightly faster - Better at optimizing placement of files on drives (eg. makes them faster) - Can defrag multiple drives at once. - Defraggler can defragment individual files or a selection of files. - Defraggler can ignore files. - Defraggler has a much sexier icon - Defraggler has a built in file search function to find individual fragmented files.
  24. Firstly, are you using the "Wipe Free Space" function and secondly, what are your system specs. If you don't know, try Speccy.
  25. Uniblue is borderline malware - I highly suggest you check out this page: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/uniblue.com
