  1. CCleaner sometimes has a problem "seeing" cookies that existed before it was installed or upversioned. Delete them once manually by going to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files then go to the sites to load fresh cookies. Usually this clears up the problem and CCleaner will "see" the new cookies.

    9/11

"Terrorsism" is defined by the US Department of Defense as "the unlawful use of -- or threatened use of -- force or violence against individuals or property to coerce or intimidate governments or societies, often to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives." How we remember 9/11 determines if the terrorists succeeded.
  3. I've used CleanCache 2.x regularly for over a year with no problems. I prefer the way it handles cookies and a couple of other issues. I don't use the current 3.x series only because it adds features I don't need.
  4. If you have range problems in your own house with any major brand of wireless access point, it's probably due to interference. 2.4 GHz cordless phones are the worst offenders but other devices could contribute. I have a US Robotics one level down and at the other end of the house, and get a 83 - 92% signal. Also, I can easily connect to Linksys and D-Link units in other houses in my neighbourhood (silly people who don't activate any security). All of these are B-G type ... the new N type are supposed to have greater range.
  5. There are probably other ways but (in Windows XP) I use Control Panel > Network Connections > Wireless Network Connection > Support > Details > Physical Address.
  6. Yes. Your manual should explain the details but:1. Disable SSID broadcast. 2. Use encryption. 3. Use MAC Address filter to allow only listed units to connect.
  7. Both FastStone Image Viewer and FastStone Photo Resizer do batch conversion and more. Both are freeware.

    Prefetch

Windows XP automatically cleans prefetch when 128 entries accumulate (it appears to delete all but the newest 64). Since CCleaner only cleans old prefetch entries, if you ran it shortly after a Windows cleanup ran, CCleaner wouldn't find anything.

    Ram Tool

Unless you're really squeezed for RAM (in which case get more), what's the point? ... to see how much of your RAM you can avoid using?

    Ghost car!

Watch the time code in the corner. Sometimes it disappears, other times it suddenly skips forward several seconds. If it was really recorded that way, it would have been worthless as evidence so I suspect it's been altered.
  11. I think you could edit the registry entry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\DefaultIcon to specify a path to a custom icon. I haven't tried it myself but it's probably safer than hacking the shell32.dll file.
  12. I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean you want to change the default to something other than the standard yellow folder?
  13. To point to an icon, the second last line becomes the path and IconIndex=0. For example: IconFile=%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Documents\My Icons\Custom Folder.ico IconIndex=0
  14. Windows Explorer > Tools Folder Options > View and disable Hide protected operating system files. Go to My Music and open Desktop.ini. The contents should read as follows (<USERNAME> is your username): [DeleteOnCopy] Owner=<USERNAME> Personalized=13 PersonalizedName=My Music [.ShellClassInfo] InfoTip=@Shell32.dll,-12689 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll IconIndex=-237 You can edit the last two lines to customize the icon.

    Help!

Most articles regarding that error message suggest the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

    Microsoft Word

You should see a path specified (see screenshot) but if you click Modify, you'll get a window that looks like an empty folder because the window is only used to specify the folder location.

    Microsoft Word

Check C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Remove Hidden Data Tool. It should contain OFFRHD.EXE, PROPFIX.EXE, RHD.DLL & RHD.DOT as well as folder 1033 which contains offrhdreadme.htm & rhdResDll.DLL If not, that would be the problem. Another possibility is a damaged Normal.dot Default location is C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates but check Tools > Options > File Locations > User templates to confirm. Close Word and check the template folder. If you have any temp files starting with a ~ while Word is closed. delete them. Rename Normal.dot , e.g., OldNormal.dot. A new Normal.dot will be created when you re-open Word. You'll lose any customizations embedded in Normal.dot but if this doesn't fix the problem, you can reverse that by deleting the new Normal.dot and restoring the old one. EDIT: Just to eliminate the obvious ... this is Office XP/2003 with Word 2002/2003 ?
  19. If you're connected to a wireless access point / router which is directly connected to your neighbour's cable (the typical setup), his security shouldn't affect you. The access point probably has a firewall but shouldn't cause the type of problem you report. If you're connecting to his computer (workstation or server) which then connects to cable (not a desirable setup but possible), his security could be a problem. Check your wireless client to see how it's connecting or ask your neighbour.

    Microsoft Word

EDIT: Enable RHD as shown on screenshot. Also, you may know this but ... the RHD tool does not delete data entered in File Properties > Custom. This is harmless and useful ... nothing automatically goes on this tab but, if you want info such as version number or revision date to survive RHD, manually enter it.
  21. Have you tried the CCleaner site Downloads? Personally I wouldn't use any other site. Indicates a blocked image. Do you have any internet security enabled?
  22. Then they should fix it.
  23. You may be aware of this but ... index.dat files typically regenerate immediately as blank files. Have you opened the index.dat to see if it has any content from before the clean and reboot? P.S., What OS are you running? The \Content.IE5\ part of the path you identified seems unusual.

    MTX files?

TWAIN is a standard protocol for communication between imaging devices and software apps. You said you didn't have a scanner ... how about a digital camera?

    MTX files?

.mtx is probably Adobe Atmosphere but could also be any of a number of other apps. See FILExt, a useful site.
