  1. Saw part of this on the news this morning, and then took in the full official video of hackers remote-controlling a car via WiFi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK0SrxBC1xs Wonder if that means cars will need a software-based or better hardware-based firewall sooner than later.
  2. /AUTO doesn't run the registry cleaner and for good reasons as already detailed in many other topics requesting automatic registry cleaning. Here's the official help documentation explaining all of the command line options: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/advanced-usage/command-line-parameters
  3. Also make sure you're downloading from Piriform.com, try the slim build installer from here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  4. I wonder if it's something as simple as a missing registry key. And I also wonder if installing other software in the future could suffer from the issue, such as an anti-virus not knowing which version of Windows you have and thus fail to install, etc., or if it's just a Speccy only issue.
  5. Same thing my friend Nergal stated above, however explained a bit different: CCSETUP507_exe is not a valid EXE extension, it's missing the required dot, it should be ccsetup507.exe
  6. CCleaner default install doesn't deal with the Crash Report produced by Mozilla products such as Firefox. However I believe the winapp2.ini community file eluded to earlier in this topic does deal with them - of course you'd probably still experience the very slow initial startup and usage of CCleaner until the Crash Report files are removed.
  7. Shellbags are in the winapp2.ini community file. CCleaner's configuration can be easily backed up by going into: Options > Advanced > Save all settings to INI file
  8. I've only had Automatic Updates set to Disabled since last year. Security Center I left on since it does monitor that the Windows Firewall and installed antivirus are on - I've seen antivirus have some fault and not turn on at boot-time with the only clue to an issue being the warning from Security Center stating it isn't on.
  9. Formula 1 racecar driver Jules Bianchi passes away at age 25 due to diffuse axonal injury. See the F1 news article here: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/328174/jules-bianchi-dies-at-age-25/
  10. There are 84 entries of it cleaned via winapp2.ini for games and Windows. For XP specifically I made this for winapp2.ini for my own XP system: [CryptnetUrlCache] LangSecRef=3025 Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Default=False FileKey1=%AppData%\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache|*.*|RECURSE FileKey2=%windir%\System32\config\SystemProfile\Application Data\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache|*.*|RECURSE
  11. Those can do very wide-spread damage since they're often called land hurricanes.
  12. They do have the very old SpywareGuard (only tested up to WinXP), although old it is still functional. From what you've stated I thought of it and wondered what if - as in what if they had combined the two in someway all those years ago.
  13. Thanks for letting us know how things turned out! And a belated welcome to the forums.
  14. We were in the basement until 6:20pm last night when they cancelled the tornado warning for Burlington, IA, and it was a very eerie storm that was literally "the calm before the big storm" because there wasn't a sound outside - something which I've seen hundreds of times before living in the midwest. When I came up from the basement I looked east towards the river and Illinois and the sky looked black and ominous, and then I think at 6:39pm the TV weather stated a trained spotter spotted a huge tornado that was moving slowly at 25mph. It was on the ground for a very long time!
  15. Yes, and it was released after XP had been around for awhile. While it's not just for IE it will stop a ton of stuff that tries to exploit IE thus protecting the whole system silently without annoying the user.
  16. This powerful big tornado started forming over Burlington, Iowa where I live early in the evening last night, and then went across the river and caused severe damage in Cameron, Illinois which is a short drive from where I live. Photos and more info here: http://www.weather.com/news/news/cameron-illinois-tornado-severe-damage-impacts Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn4a7JMlmP0
  17. I don't get any poop-ups ("pop-ups") from Microsoft because I disabled the Automatic Updates service. One other thing this old XP system runs relatively fine without any bugs be introduced by Microsoft via updates.
  18. I'd say reboot the modem (according to my ISP that should be a weekly maintenance to do to prevent issues and refresh the modem RAM). If rebooting the modem doesn't immediately remedy the problem then it's time to call your ISP for support, they can fix upload speeds because sometimes things can go wacky with the modem configuration.
  19. SpywareBlaster doesn't find anything, it's non-resident and installs protections, i.e.; killbits, blocks bad sites and cookies. Edit: Still annoys me that after two years since the last version was released in 2013 that they offer zero support for Firefox Portable. Wish they'd implement the ability to manually point it to Firefox Portable to apply protection.
  20. Rebooting is not necessary to use the registry cleaner.
  21. It frees up the space at the end if left alone! If you cancel it you run the risk of it not removing the files it creates to fill up the freespace. You can search and browse the forums about other issues. And do note it isn't something to run all the time since it can wear out a hard disk, it's best used when wanting to sell off or donate a computer.
  22. Unless someone can easily search for answers themselves.
  23. Thing is you can end up with cookies in the registry, etc. Websites can even be coded to dump a cookie from Firefox, etc., into where IE stores cookies which I've seen before many years ago when I used to visit ZDNet. Edit: Reason I don't personally consider Flash a super cookie is because I've always been able to delete the cookies either via CCleaner or a batch file script, i.e.; nothing has ever remained.
  24. Super cookies are not the same as Flash cookies - my own opinion. See here for further info: http://www.techopedia.com/definition/27310/super-cookie
  25. 1. Start CCleaner. 2. Click Tools > Startup > Context Menu If CCleaner doesn't display it or can't remove it you may need to try NirSoft ShellExView or ShellMenuView.
