  1. You can always count on Eldmannen to bash Norton/Symantec! Well, you didn't do it, and someone just had todo it! Everybody knows it, nobody says it.
  2. Yes, I am serious. Before I had 10 mbit/s up/down for 20?. Then the price was raised to 32?. I don't think a monthly quota existed before, but now I think it is at 300 gb/month. Last Christmas, the ISP upgraded the downstream of all 10 mbit/s customers to 100 mbit/s.
  3. Normally it is very rare that Linux crashes. If a particular software becomes unresponsive, it is possible to kill/terminate/close it via the "kill" command, by supplying the PID (Process ID) of the application, which can be obtained by running "ps" with the aux paramter. "ps aux". Then it lists all running processes (like Task Manager in Windows), and their PID, then you can kill it like "kill -9 <pid>". Vector Linux I have never tried myself, but it is based on Slackware which is the Linux distribution that I have used the most. When it crashes, how does it crash? Does an application become unresponsive, or does evreything just freeze or does it display a "kernel panic" ? If the whole graphical environment that is frozen, you might be able to close the X Window System (commonly called simply "X") via ctrl+shift+backspace. This should bring you back to the console, you can start X again with the "startx" command. There are tons of software available at freshmeat.net. All Linux distros come with "ps" which is command line utility for listing processes. There is also a utility called "top" which is similiar, but it uses "curses". I quick search on freshmeat, and I found gPS which seems to be a graphical task manager.
  4. If it is only 20, then you can merge them yourself manually with a text editor such as Notepad or something.
  5. I don't know how or where the passwords are saved, and if any spyware could steal them if it entered your system. But I assume they are encrypted and that they are pretty safe. I never heard of any website tricking the browser into getting passwords that were meant for another website or something like that. I assume it is pretty safe.
  6. I like WinMerge, I sometimes use it to compare two configuration files to see what is different.
  7. If you got trouble or questions about Ubuntu Linux, there are helpful resources. Ubuntu documentation. Ubuntu forums. IRC chat Ubuntu mailing-lists Ubuntu wiki. Glad you enjoy Linux. When you save files, you usually store them in your "home directory". For you this is probably /home/rridgely/ from the shell this can be reached by "cd /home/rridgely/" or "cd ~" (quick), or even "cd" without parameters. To everyone else, see http://www.getgnulinux.org/. It is JWM. For more information about Puppy Linux see the Wikipedia article. If you're interested in trying out Puppy Linux like rridgely, you can try it on a USB memory too, without even installing it.
  8. Here is a list from August 2006 of various antivirus software and how they rank. http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defaul...d=82&mnu=82 If anyone wonders about Active Virus Shield by AOL, then it is an antivirus software that AOL licensed from Kaspersky and then re-branded, stripped/crippled some funcionality, and then added adware to it. They also have a list of antiviruses, including a free antivirus section on; http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defaul...d=71&mnu=71
  9. I agree with the other people here who suggested Firefox. You would be much safer.
  10. People are still installing Norton software into their computers by free will these days?
  11. Depends on where you live, and how much you are willing to pay. I have 100 mbit/s downstream and 10 mbit/s upstream for 32?. I don't live in the Capitalist States of America though.
  12. I assume the passwords are encrypted, but I don't know. It depends on if other people have access to that computer, and how many, and who they are. It depends on if they got access to your Windows account, etc. Ask on the Mozilla Firefox forum. http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php?c=4 Or in the Firefox chat channel on #firefox at irc.mozilla.org
  13. Now if they could only make a minimalistic PDF viewer...
  14. The NSA warrantless writetapping was spying on all the telephone of all people in the USA. I am pretty sure, not all people in the USA are "suspected terrorists". If you are at an airport and you're talking to your friend about how you played your Nintendo and got 15750 points on Bomberman, the special power-up and are on the #1 highscore list then the security guards will come and beat you down, then probe your cavities.
  15. No idea. Raptors are high-end disks, so those disks naturally cost more than those disks which are not-so-high-end.

    16MB HDD Cache

There are many disks with 16 mb cache, not only the Raptors. The Raptor disks are more expensive than other disks but are high-performance, these disks are suited as a system disk where your operating system is loaded and swap file. You could store movies on it too, but then its better buy another disk that is cheaper and larger disk space, if you buy a Raptor, use it as system disk. There are also reviews and comparisons of the Raptor disk on various hardware sites such as Tomshardware, Anandtech, etc.
  17. I could read it fairly well, the only word that took a little longer time was "rdanieg", which I suppose is "reading". I heard about this study before. Sometimes what people write on Myspace or similar social-sites is more difficult to read than the above text you posted.
  18. No matter if a goverment can be trusted or cant be trusted, I would prefer there eyes not on me.
  19. Nope, maybe the site has some documentation or there is some readme file or something.
  20. President Bush speaks about the Internets, yes with s, you know there are many Internets. Senator Ted Stevens is talking about the Internet. He describes it as not a truck, and as a series of tubes. He apparently don't know the difference of Internet and e-mail. Darwin Awards also has plenty of stupid people. Example, Polish roulette (Russian roulette but with a semi-automatic).
