  1. Hi Steve, I did mine online like Hazel. If memory serves me it was only a 60 some MB download based on the status of my system. I already had SP2 completely up to date. Followed Hazel's and Dennis' advice and turned everything off including any scheduled tasks or screen savers. EDITI have 2004 DEll with 256 MB and approx. ??? KBp/s download and it took about 1 hour download and 1 hr to install. This was when it was first available. Later I updated others PCs and it only took half the time. The people that had the most problems were mainly HP,Compaq or custom PC users with AMD processors but even that has been fixed by MS from my reading. EDITSome people did have to reload some Drivers. I have nothing special . you may since you are a musician . I think. Good luck, davey P.S. You can always get the CD and just keep things the way you have them until whenever. If that comes.
  2. Hi you doin' hannubys ? Yes there are several workarounds but you must do some searching. Each works based on different approaches and reasons. I will do some "searching" later. In the meantime, bookmark this link. It is the "handiest" search for many IP.Board forums. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ode=adv&f=0 Select "Show results as posts" in the lower right hand for easy review of results. My favorite way of "searching" the forums. Good luck, davey
  3. Ornery varmints!!! BBC "All Creatures Great and Small" Definitely one of my (city raised American country boy's) favorite comedy/drama series ever. http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:YzL7E...;cd=8&gl=us God bless James Herriot wherever he may be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Herriot Certainly gives me food for thought. davey
  4. I wanted to make a final review of ALL these great desktops before voting. Looks like PhotoBucket hasn't treated some of our members desktops very fairly. It says they have been moved or deleted. What is that all about? Dennis thanks for setting up your Poll post the way that you have it. It makes it easy to go see the desktops. davey
  5. Hi Steve, You are very welcome to the forums. DennisD's tutorial taught me very quickly. We are all learning, here and we look forward to your additions to the September Desktop's. BTW, there are many musicians around here for some strange reason. Good luck, davey Not a musician but a music lover. Another member just like you.
  6. Hi kathyk, Welcome to the forums and CCleaner. Disk4mat has advised you well. Below is a list of Office 10.0 (Office XP) it will give you an idea what will not be cleaned if you turn off Office XP in your Applications list. 7. Hello Ispep, Welcome to the forums. You will find that CCleaner already has what you need if I understand your request correctly. See the section in the CCleaner Beginners guide on Options > Settings > secure delete . As far as secure deletion goes, ONE (1) overwrite is sufficient for your privacy. Read the other provided links also. They will save you some time and headaches. MS Office Manager

Hi eldec, I am presuming that you have the winapp2.ini file in your CCleaner folder. Look in there and you will see that *MS Office Picture Manager is listed there. Every product in your Applications list with an "*" (asterisk or star) is because there are entries for that product in the winapp2.ini file. Surprise!!! Now on to the next mystery. Of course you gotta have a little "FUN" first. Thanks for your question, davey
  9. Hi Stan, If you want "all" your freespace in one big chunk and spend more time doing it,then use "defrag freespace". If you want it done quicker and don't mind some fragmentation at the end then select "defrag freespace (allow fragmentation). I opt for the second choice. I am going to create more fragmentation as soon as I run something else, anyway. Good luck, davey P.S. The more big chunks of freespace the less chance of tens of thousands of fragments. You don't have to do this too often unless you constantly update many, many, many things in a relatively short time frame.
  10. I haven't forgotten!!! First, you "create" something everybody needs. Then you try to find different ways to tax the heck out it for people who use it. I just want my "carbon footprint credits" to go to my account and not theirs. I constantly "recycle" all my bits from the "Bit Buckets" on my PC. davey Waste not, Tax not!!!

    Crash

We are glad to have helped. Now, what to do to avoid this in the future? I refer you to this post about Software VERSION checkers and Software Patches or Software Update checkers. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=110891 Use both these products at least 1 Time a month or as often as you have the time. Each one will help you to keep all your software up to date. No need to check for updates automatically every time you run something, unless it is security related programs and files. These products are free to everyone and make this task quick and simple. Quick and simple leaves more time to go out and have some "FUN" in your life. You deserve it !!! Best wishes, davey
  12. The beauty is wonderful, the vastness is breathtaking, and each one is "REAL". davey
  13. Great idea !!! The stats show that many users are certainly interested in this. davey

    Picasa Worry

Hi Steve, "Someone" has been reading the forums. This is "Gooood". They also took the time to point out another product that does some scanning and probably some "indexing" also. Thanks a lot, Steve!!! davey

    Avast!

CeeCee, I am glad that you started this topic. (removed by davey). davey P.S. Oops!!! Sorry Hazel, topic related but wrong forum.
  16. Shame on me. Sitting here thinking about a good "Root Beer". I forgot the most important thing for you. davey http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites Beginners advice Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 Come back and let us know how you did and what else we can help you with. 17. I will check out your pictures. Have a good case of German "Root Beer" on hand for me, the next first time I visit Germany. Or maybe I might run into you going up Everest someday. Stay in touch, davey
  18. Hello Michael, That folder can be saved by unticking the option at Cleaner > Windows tab > Windows Explorer list > Recent Documents, if this is really what is causing your concern. This folder contains shortcuts which point to the actual documents. I am thinking that you might be referring to the Recent files within each Office product. These documents may be the ones that are being pointed to by the Recent shortcuts. For right now you can untick those cleaning options at Cleaner > Applications tab > Applications list > (Office Product name). You can then find out which exact files by looking at the winapp.ini file and winapp2.ini file (if you use it). Best Regards, davey (Maryland,USA) P.S. I don't personally use any Office products so I can't say exactly which changes you may need to make in the "winapp.ini file". This file is 1 of three files that are embedded inside the CCleaner program. However, you can make another file called winapp1.ini and put it inside the CCleaner folder. The changes that you put into this file will override what is specified within the CCleaner program. I hope this helps explain that a solution for you is close at hand.
  19. Now that is what I call keeping it simple. I wonder if Al Gore had something to do with this ? There is Simple and then there is "simple". Simple, davey
  20. 10/14 I agree with you Humpty on most things. In this case, I am not too sure. Are you sure that is a pole? My optometrist viewed your pic and said he did not have a chart that wide to measure my vision. I do think I see a pattern here as regards our members though. The people who setup this test want us to believe that our elbows are really our arses. My elbows look nothing like their elbows or their arses. Same goes for my arse. What they are really trying to do is get us to evaluate based on pictures of other peoples elbows and arses. Are we then going to be asked whose elbow goes with whose arse? Members please, no snapshots of your body parts should be submitted as proof. I believe you !!! I did find it very amusing, especially having other friends of mine take the test also. They asked the same question also. Where in tarnation did they find such contorted elbows and arses? Looking forward to more tests, davey
  21. Thank you. You filled us "graphics" newbies in on a lot of insider history in one short paragraph. Sharing is great !!! davey

    Registry Integrity

Very similar situation with my PC prior to CCleaner. Except those 3.5 years were with no maint programs whatever and lots of "Power Outages" user caused or natural events. You might want to break it down into groups if the first "Go for Broke" reg. fix doesn't do your PC any favors. Yes, I also had years of Computer experience but zip years in PC internals except a little Gates DOS and Gates Basic in 1976 on a TRS80. Good luck, davey P.S. Just complete the Beginners advice I gave you and you will OK before you do anything.

    Avast!

I noticed that option about the RootKit scan in Troubleshooting. If it is doing the scan in the Free version then the scan is very quick as my start-up times have not increased that I am aware of. Yes, it is comforting to see those files even after a CCleaning. Thanks for the information. It is comforting to know that even Unlocker can't touch those files. davey
  24. The last user had a BAGEL Worm if I recall properly. Good luck and let us know . Many of us will be watching the SpywareHell forum as well. davey This is why we advise all PC users to install Antimalware programs NOW !!! Better to have it on your PC before you get infected. You may not be able to install any help from the Internet after you are infected. Bookmark this link and then use it . Read and use all the buttons on the left. Do it NOW not later. http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/rridgely/...eprevention.htm
