  1. Just to get back to the decrypter rridgley was talking about, I have used the shrink+ "old"decrypter combination fo a while now and probably won't change unless I encounter a problem which so far I never have. This new one I note is a beta, although I'm sure it would probably be okay. A lot of the apps in this area tend to be used most successfully when a guide is used to setting it up, by this I mean a word for word set up by an enthusiast. Ater Dawn forum is good for that.
  2. You mentioned browsers, which one do you use? For example if you use Firefox you must close it before running ccleaner.
  3. Here is a quite a long thread of everything possible to do with improving boot times http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=235571
  4. I have xp and in my set up, I have 3 drop down options, no sound, windows default and a thick blue line option ( best way I can discribe it ) The line is the option I have.

  6. You could always try in classic xp view, start>control panel>display>settings and see if the screen resolution is set to 1024 by 768.
  7. Tuckerhank, Am I right in thinking that the site you cannot get rid of is an offensive one?
  8. Cowboy, When you say freezing problem do you mean your computer will not respond, or is it your monitor that doesn't work properly?
  9. Cowboy, I'm sorry to read about your problem, hopefully someone will give some suggestions to help you soon. parOx, No need to shout in capitals at cowboy, he has asked us for help with his problem, not for comments on his lifestyle.
  10. May be best to turn it off altogether! See here http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/03/go...pping_software/

    No sound

Sorry to read about your problems. Heres a few ideas to be going on with until others give you some more. First, the obvious, you have checked the volume control by right-clicking the taskbar icon and opening the it and seeing it is not muted. (sorry but I had to ask!) Just so you know you are not alone. http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/46305.html Microsoft info, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q307918 A kelly's corner fix, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (number 371) System restore?
  15. It does seems like a six and two threes job. I suppose all cover is theoretically safer but this could prevent some programs from running properly as you say. One thing I wasn't sure about was that in hardware based DEP enabled systems, it states you cannot disable it, did it mean the protect windows systems bit, the protect all programs cover bit, or both?
  16. You could try looking at this free one, ticker version details and screenshot near bottom of page http://oracle.2question.com/rss/
  17. If you right-click my computer>properties>advanced>performance and click settings and then the data execution prevention tab, there are two options -for essential windows services and programs, or turn on D.E.P. for ALL programs and settings except those I select. Would the latter option be a better selection as mine is on the first?
  18. I was a bit in two minds Mike as to whether to post the link or not, but as it was a valid reason for a boot slowdown on that users part I thought I would. Let's hope no one takes this post as a reason to re-start an old argument!!
  19. Here is a bit of info about how an empty prefetch folder can slow down boot times http://www.xpforum.co.uk/forums/archive/t-587.html
  20. Interesting rant Mike! Yes things were censored a bit then, at the time only people in the "know" realised that songs such as Purple Haze, Mellow Yellow, and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds were all about LSD. The first 2 being particular brands and the Beatles one just being the initials.
  21. Sorry for wasting your time John, i had looked at this and thought that's what you meant. http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=7916
  22. John, Assuming you use xp and this is what you are talking about, I had a quick look around and here are a couple of ideas you might like to think about. Go to tools-Folder Options - View Tab - Show Hidden folders and files. Go to the location of where your pictures are stored. Change view to Details or list. Delete the thumbs.db and then view by thumbnails again. This will recreate the thumbs.db for you again. Or try http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm line 17
