  1. Your not as clever(and no where near as funny) as you seem to think you are. Making off hand comments can be entertaining sometimes but doing it a few times a week is just annoying.
  2. None of my stuff has drm on it though, they are all mp3s. I ripped them to WMA lossless and then converted those into mp3 with foobar/lame. Idk, I guess I'll start doing the lossess part with something else. I'm actually a little pissed about this. I don't like the idea of it needing "rights" to play my own mp3s. These were all CDs that I bought and ripped myself.
  3. So I was cleaning up one of my computers(reformat/update/added all files). So I put all my music(all in mp3) into WMP11 and when I closed it I got a box saying: "WMP 11 cancelling the download of subscription rights", I have no DRM music on this machine. I'm not sure what it could have been doing, I'm just curious if anyone else has had this happen.
  4. I've been using my @live.com email with Windows Live Mail(client) for a long time now. To me this is the best option because it syncs everything you do on the spot, that way if you change something when logged into another computer it keeps your settings synced.
  5. At the moment my favorite is Springsteen's new album Working on A Dream. He takes up where Magic left off and takes it to a new level. There are a couple of songs on here that are as good as anything hes ever done. All time favorite is hard to say, there are just too many but my go to answer is usually either The Beatles or Dylan.
  6. I don't like this idea.(sorry to be blunt ) The people on this forum are pretty good about staying on topic when necessary and even when things do stray its usually just a natural progression of the conversation. On a lot of forums they create this topic and then start cutting posts out of topics and dumping them into the "off topic" topic. To me this would generally kill the joy of posting and none of the mods/admins want to turn into "off topic nazis", we've all been on forums with those. The lounge is the place to start any topic that doesn't belong in the other technical sections. This has worked fine over the years and it keeps things simple. Those of us that have friends here tend to do personal chat through PMs, I don't like the idea of people making a bunch of posts about what they ate for breakfast or the new toothpaste they are trying out.
  7. Hmm... I may actually buy this. I like winpatrol because its not as annoying as other programs like it, plus its really light on system resources. The only reason I dont use the free version is because it doesn't do real time monitoring, on the flip side I haven't paid for security software in a long time and don't really need it anyway, plus the icon for it is a dog(a sissy dog at that). $15 is a really good deal though.
  8. Guess no one else thought free online storage integrated into word/powerpoint/excell was cool. I love the fact that you save the file just like you would to your hard drive, awesome.
  9. If you tried the new adaware, what do you think? http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_....php?t=features
  10. Yeah my other printer is a cannon too(pixima something.. cost me like $200). I usually pay about $60 for both cartridges but if I got the "photo-quality" ones it would cost even more. The one I got today is definitely better for my needs.
  11. Ok, so I went to walmart today to pick up a couple of ink cartridges for my printer.(yeah walmart sucks, but I didn't feel like driving any further and I had to have them now). These things usually run me about $60 for black and color. I'm walking around looking for them and then I see an hp printer for $25. I just couldn't pass up giving it a look... and then I bought it. Its a HP deskjet F2210. It has a scanner with copy functions and a couple of easy to use touch pad controls. It also came with color and black ink(why I purchased it.) Surprisingly this thing isn't a huge piece of junk, its definitely cheaply made but it seems to work fairly well. (I don't print photos, only documents and occasionally stuff with basic graphics.) The stuff I printed looked fine. I knew HP had terrible software so I immediately tossed the disc that came with it and looked on their site for just the driver, luckily it was there. So I got it installed with zero software besides the driver.(no junky services!) I set the scanner to work with picasa and it works flawlessly. For a cheap printer I don't think it could be much better. Its definitely bulky, but its sitting on a shelf so I don't care. The documents I printed look fine and the replacement carteridges for this thing are much cheaper than my other printer. (15 for black 17 for color) no I don't know how long they last(definitely key if you print a lot) but what do you expect for something this cheap.
  12. MS just released an update for Office that allows you to save your documents directly into office workspace(basically online storage where you can either just store your documents, or allow others to edit them and track who edits what). VERY COOL. I have been uploading a lot of my stuff onto it for a few hours. They also put something into the windows live installer that will allow you to use Outlook to check the free @live.com emails with pop3. (called outlook connector.) Because of this I've dumped windows live mail and gone back to outlook. They are finally starting to bring the windows live stuff together. I really like photogallery and the parental tools program is pretty good too if you need that kind of software.
  13. I think Kaspersky has the best scanning engine still, I really like its online scanner. However the latest version is pretty bloated and slow, I haven't triend trend micro in years though. I think if I was going to buy an AV I would get either antivir or nod32. I think freeware is still good enough for most people's needs. (avast, antivir, avg free)

    Games

I play games on my xbox 360, not much of a pc guy anymore. Lately I've been playing bioshock, gears of war 2, and devil may cry 4. All excellent.
  15. A little old for teenage angst huh? Time to let it go guys. (joking of course ) I'm not a fan of them but I did think the singer had a pretty good cover of Home Sweet Home, by Motley Crue. (I don't like Vince Neil so that may be why I like it better...) However the word nu-metal makes me want to gag, thanks dj.
  16. @live.com email+ windows live mail= awesome. I use it as my primary email now. I have windows 7 here on a disc and was going to try it, but I think I'm not going to bother. I did some research on it and there are lots of things making me think I'm probably not going to like it. I may just wait for the final version and get a new pc then. I've heard its coming as early as august of this year and that if you buy a computer in july or later with vista that you get 7 for free. I may do that then.
  17. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx I may try it.. not sure. The servers are getting hammered but maybe you can get it later.
  18. Probably, but as long as its vista done right then whats the problem. Vista is a great looking OS that by all reports has had most of its issues worked out(I wouldn't know, I dont use it) but its a fact that it launched in pretty bad shape, so as long as they avoid that mistake then things should be good.
  19. Ok guys, some of us have been hanging out here for years and if you've been anything like me than you've probably installed/removed hundereds of programs by now. So now I'm curious after all this time have you found your select "set" of programs that you've decided on or do you still switch them out weekly/daily/whatever. I have definitely settled on my select programs that I've been using day in/out for the last year or more. I actually very rarely try new stuff anymore(shocking, I know). So if you've settled on your programs then what are they? Here is basically my pc in a nutshell: Browser: Firefox with adblock plus and firegestures. Office Suite: MS Office 07 Audio Player:WMP 11 Archive Program: 7zip Chat/IM: Pidgin PDF Reader:Foxit Pictures: Picasa(Still cant emphasize enough how awesome this program is) Cleaning/Tweaking: CCleaner, desktop maestro, autoruns Security: I have avast on my laptop currently and hijackthis Burning/Converting Music/ect: Ashampoo free, Foobar(lame mp3 encoding), dvd fab, shrinkto5 Thats pretty much it, out of all the stuff that I've used over the years this is pretty much all I use on a daily basis. When I reformat my computers these are the only programs I bother installing anymore.
  20. Yeah 3.1 was sold to the public. I have a computer in the closet that runs it. The only thing I remember about that computer is that it had a funky display mode that would open all windows into a window pane/grid looking thing. I dont think it even has a modem in it. Hmm... I'm looking forward to windows 7 for one reason: netbooks. Microsoft says they are going to make it able to run optimally on these systems which means its going to have to run good on a 1.6ghz, 1gig ram system. That means you may actually be able to run windows 7 without upgrading your hardware/buying a new pc. It also means that the potential is there for the thing to run great on cheap/moddest hardware. However if MS fails at this then they will have to keep xp(netbooks are the main reason xp is still being sold), if they do neither then they will lose a pretty fast growing market, these things are selling like hot cakes and are already being sold with custom linux distros on them. MS cant screw this up.
  21. When is IE8 even coming out? Seems a little early to be putting this out.
  22. If you use internet explorer for your browser: Click tools>internet options> Programs> click the button that says "make default" If you use firefox: Tools>options>advanced tab> "check now"
  23. Its coming out so soon because vista has PR issues(among other things). They are releasing windows 7 in hopes that people will forget about vista fast.
