  1. Here's one from my new windows 7 computer(as you can see I pretty much disabled the new taskbars features and got it back to the old way, I HATED it when I first installed windows 7).
  2. No because I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

Ok, so the apps on that list that I would use I already have. However I had an embarrassingly old version of ccleaner installed so I let it install ccleaner. It did just what it said it would do, it installed ccleaner, no toolbar in program files. However I just noticed what the downfall will be to "power users". If I was setting up someone else's computer I would probably use ninite to install all the programs I normally would(and most of them are on there) however I wouldn't use this on my computers. The reason being is that ccleaner auto defaults to adding run dialogs, and auto updates which are things I usually don't do, if I had to go around changing settings in all the programs I installed it wouldn't really be a time saver as I like my pc a certain way. So if you normally install programs with default settings all the time, you should definitely use this, if your like me and pretty much trim the fat on everything you install, this isn't for you.

I saw this on toms hardware and it looks pretty interesting. The site basically lets you pick from a list of freeware programs, then custom makes you an installer and puts the programs on your computer. However it automatically selects default settings AND deselects all toolbars/adware/ect. So ccleaner is on there, its going to install it in default location without the yahoo bar. I haven't tried it, but I plan to shortly. Here is the link. http://ninite.com/
  5. If anyone else got this offer, I have an article for you: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/how_...y_windows_7_dvd That company that hosted this file for whatever reason didn't make it .iso(bootable). By following that guide you can get a bootable iso that will let you install on a blank hard drive. The license key they gave you is for a full version, they just didn't give you the means to use it as so.
  6. What I'm talking about isn't going to create an exact copy of your windows install, it just gets you a version of windows vista on a disc so that you can put in a new hard drive.(downside is that its going to be like it was when you opened your computer for the first time, with all that trial software.) Your computer should have a recovery partition, you should see it listed in "my computer" if you see it listed there your computer should come with a utility to basically put that partition onto a dvd so you can get a new drive. This will not back up your data, so you need to do that seperately. -------------------- You can get acronis true image that I listed on newegg with a new hard drive basically for free sometimes. When you actually update look at the combo deal on hard drives there, they often bundle it in for $2
  7. I got an email from ashampoo with a license to the "advanced" version of burner 2009 and a bunch of other programs. I wonder what the difference is between 2009 advanced and 2010? probably just a different color interface.
  8. You can get the OEM version of Acronis True Image for $20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832200010 You can make "restore discs" on hp computers. Hp saves your windows recover disc on the hard drive but if you look in the start menu in one of those hp utility folders there should be a program that will allow you to make recovery discs. This will not save your data, just allow you to make a new install of windows.
  9. Why are you getting such an old processor? You know you can get the new sempron for like $40. I think they are running a deal where you can get it with a motherboard at newegg for like $70
  10. CCleaner will delete them in the same way that you would if you just emptied them yourself. Can they be recovered with the right software? possibly yes. If I was giving away a pc with a lot of my info on it I would use DBan on it and then put a clean install of windows/use recover discs. This will get rid of everything on the computer 100%. http://www.dban.org/
  11. No, the scanner works fine(at least on my cheap deskjet F2210) You can either use the built in windows utility or get something like windows live picture(whatever its called) and use that to import the pictures from the scanner. To use the built in one you have to go to my computer, you should see the scanner listed and just right click it and press scan.
  12. I think officially your supposed to use those copies to sell to someone who you will provide support too. Well I'm selling the computer to myself and I'll provide my own damn support.
  13. HP makes a basic printer driver that doesn't suck. You have to get it online though. For future reference you don't have to pay full price for windows, you can get OEM copies pretty cheap from newegg. Only difference is that you cant call MS for support(who does that anyway?) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....75%20-%20%24100
  14. 1. Computers. the programs used to direct the operation of a computer, as well as documentation giving instructions on how to use them. Compare hardware (def. 5). 2. anything that is not hardware but is used with hardware, esp. audiovisual materials, as film, tapes, records, etc.: a studio fully equipped but lacking software. 3. Television Slang. prepackaged materials, as movies or reruns, used to fill out the major part of a station's program schedule http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/software Clearly it is software.
  15. I had to use the ones for spanish characters all the time in school. Freaking hated writing essays where I randomly had to break out the cheat sheet so that I could type the correct punctuation. (I passed 5 years of college spanish.... and I still don't speak spanish. )
  16. 95 Sites you should bookmark today (article title) http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/95-...rk-today-639721 I win.
  17. Reboot the computer. If your icons and start menu still dont show then try the below: On your keyboard press ctrl+alt+del. Click File>new task. In the box type explorer.exe. Your start menu should load, if not then something is corrupt or possibly a virus.
  18. I'm going to get this once 7 is available. I just ordered all the parts for a new AMD quad core system from newegg. Hopefully 7 isn't a clunker.
  19. I tried this. I don't know how effective it is(obviously) but it runs nicely. Not bloated, nice interface, spyware & virus, free. Sounds like they may have a winner if its good at preventing/cleaning infections.
  20. Doesn't change the fact that they shouldn't be. If your computer has ddr2 ram you can double your ram for $10. It will be a noticeable upgrade in performance when your running multiple programs. If your computer is using ddr ram, then let it be and upgrade the computer once it dies.
  21. That doesn't mean it uses all that ram, just that you shouldn't use it if your system has less. It only works on xp and up and you shouldn't be running less than 1gig on xp anyway...
  22. Its out of beta and available here: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_essentials/ Haven't tried it, but will later.

    laptop

I would check amazon. I found some for the laptop I have on there for $100. Maybe not be the best in the world, but you only spent $20 to begin with.
  24. AM2 can support AM3 if the Motherboard has a bios update that will recognize it. Only newer boards can, and I have no clue whats in that shuttle.
  25. I hope that wasn't a "love" scene.
