  1. Mozilla site said it wouldn't be available on the download sites until late afternoon US time, but Filehippo has it posted early morning. I installed it from there this morning. My 'About' just says 2.0 - anyone else's show different, or is there another way to tell?
  2. Google it...plenty of sites around. There's also the 70's progressive rock band of the same name. ('Van der Graaf Generator' is the group's actual spelling.) They won't help you build one, but they're fun to listen to stoned. Check out their album covers. They'll make your hair stand up.
  3. There are plenty of websites around that post song lyrics. I seriously doubt any request some sort of clearance before posting them. ps. Humpty....you're not a dreamer, you're a commie
  4. Thanks, Fire... I mentioned the laptop card because someone at a store said the gateway is the problem when it comes to range, and that the card won't matter. I didn't 'Best Buy' this exactly [cough, cough], so I asked here Re. the firewall - Since she has one as part of the security suite, would enabling it on the gateway be redundant? She'd have more control using the software firewall anyway, right? I downloaded the manual from the Actiontec site to get this far with it. (Actually, the ISP provided a gateway instead of a DSL modem. I was trying to figure out why her download speed was so low and discovered this, had her turn on the wireless function, and she was off to the races.) But I still want a site for me to get a better understanding on wireless networking.
  5. Trying to help a friend with a wireless setup, and I've never used one myself before. She has an Actiontec Wireless Gateway supplied by her ISP. Her laptop is 3-4 years old and uses the wireless card that came with it. Speed isn't an issue. She lives in the boonies and her DSL speeds are 384down/384up (for $30/mo...ugh). I had her do speed tests with her hardwired PC vs. her wireless connected laptop - both had the same test results. Distance is questionable. She can maintain a 'good' signal throughout her house and on her back porch, but loses signal when she goes to her boat dock about 150' from her porch. So... 1. Will upgrading her laptop's wireless card make any difference? I'd have to get her to look up the protocol (g or otherwise) if that needs to be known. 2. Does positioning her gateway, such as higher up from her desk or near a window, etc., have an effect? 3. Her gateway has a NAT and outbound firewall, the NAT is on by default but the firewall isn't. She has eTrust Security Suite installed on her PC and wants to put it on her laptop also. If she does, will the gateway's firewall be necessary? 4. Can someone post a site that gives good beginner-intermediate info on wireless router setups, hardware firewalls, etc.? Thanks.
  6. There are a number of programs available that will flag index.dat files to be removed on the next windows boot. This one, for example: http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=Product...=index.datsuite
  7. The Google field has narrowed vertically, at least on my theme (HiakuFox). Should match the address field height. Ahh...the mysteries of [my] life....
  8. Did anyone have problems installing this? The only quirk I noticed was I had to reinstall Flash again. (I installed this version over 2.0 Beta 1.)

    Easy Cleaner

I use Easy Cleaner and Cleanup! along with CCleaner. Each finds things the others don't. In order of use: CCleaner, EastCleaner, Cleanup. But I only do registry cleaning with CCleaner, not with the others.
  10. Aaron - I found Cursor Hider already, but it's shareware and not worth $15 for what I need. hazelnut - I use Win2000. Unless there's some hidden tweek, I'm out of luck unless there's a freeware for this out there.
  11. Yes, disappearing while I'm typing would be fine. I don't have that option on my mouse settings, however.
  12. I want my cursor to disappear when the mouse hasn't moved for several seconds. Is there an option in Windows (W2K, in my case) or something else that can do this? Thanks.
  13. Thanks humpty. I've been following the 'other firewalls' forum on Wilders for a few days now, trying to get a feel for what I want. I might just go for the Jetico 2.0 beta instead of the current version, but I'm still in 'research' mode right now.
  14. ZA was the first one I used years ago. It had a conflict with some other program, so I replaced it with Sygate. (The program was more important than keeping ZA.) While Sygate was fine while it lasted, I expect there are worthwhile replacements by now.
  15. Thanks folks... hazelnut - I think there will be a feminine slant on this enclosure. I did think the war-torn desert storm case was interesting. cowboy - I'm not sure if you were saying enamel paint would be good or bad...?
  16. Firefox eTrust EZ Antivirus Ewido Antispyware I'm still undecided on a firewall. I had a bad (re. costly) experience with Netveda, so I'm leaving it alone. Maybe Jetico..?
  17. A friend asked if she could paint her new PC's case. I thought she meant to spray paint it another color, but she wants to actually hand-paint designs on it. Hmmm...... So my question here is, what type paint should she use? She's willing to paint over the factory paint. Any ideas..?
  18. Super Drag and Go Although this extension has several features (see link above), I primarily use it for Google searches. Highlight a word or phrase on a web page, then drag it just a hair in any direction. It automatically does a Google (or whatever your default search engine is) search of what you highlighted in a new tab.
  19. I uninstalled Sygate on my Win2000 PC and attempted to install Netveda. It blue-screened near the end of the install. Windows wouldn't come all the way up and I had to uninstall what I could of Netveda in safe mode. Once I was up again, I could no longer access the net. Among other things, all entries in my Network and Dial-up Connections window were gone. This was last week. Long story short, I had to get the OS reinstalled at a shop. (I didn't have a choice since I lost my W2k disks in a recent relocation.) I'm not sure if Netveda was to blame, but I can't believe it butchered up things to the point it did. It sure didn't like something about my setup.
  20. rridgely, Is this one of the "install it and forget it" variety (aside from allowing applications access as they come up), like Sygate tends to be? I'm talking about for the typical home user with no LAN. Thanks.
  21. If you like to do a lot of Google searches, it's indispensable. With it, you hi-lite a word or phrase on a page, drag it just a hair upwards, and it opens search results in a new tab. Eliminates most of your manual typing and copying/pasting. http://superdragandgo.mozdev.org/installation.html
  22. Installed it on top of 1.5. Smooth as silk. Tarun - you ever try the SuperdragAndGo extension?
  23. As far as their sound quality goes (and I have all three), I don't wish, I enjoy.
  24. For PC to PC 'call's, Google Talk > Skype > Yahoo Messenger
