  1. Don't even even think about XP unless the system has at least 256MB RAM and for a Celeron processor it needs to be more. Go to crucial to find out what RAM cards you need. http://www.crucial.com Stick with ME and get avast! Home as I run that on my 256MB RAM 500MHZ PIII system that was given to me for some service I did for a customer. Get a Realtek RTL8169 NIC Gigabit Ethernet card from a local PC shop as they are probably less than $10.00 but you need to install the driver software for the NIC card first before you install the card.
  2. I use Neutron to keep my system clock accurate so I don't worry about incorrect Restore Points being deleted. http://keir.net/neutron.html Windows XP and Vista has an automatic time sync Service that runs once per week but I found it to be very unreliable so I Disabled that Service.
  3. It starts CCleaner in quiet mode then waits for 15 seconds then shuts down the system. It does not work on Win98/ME because there is no shutdown.exe application with those systems.
  4. I don't use Spybot S&D to manage the HOSTS file in fact I disable the HOSTS file when I scan with Spybot S&D as it takes too long to scan if active. I use hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS file managed with HostsMan and I recommend HostsServer proxy to speed up browsing: http://www.abelhadigital.com
  5. I don't like running CCleaner at bootup.I prefer to run the CCleaner shutdown.bat from Andavari http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?act=at...ost&id=2472 I usually run the shutdown.bat if I am going out for a while.
  6. I moved the slider in System Restore to only take up 5% of my HDD space. I prefer to leave the Restore points alone until I run Windows cleanmgr.exe myself then select to remove all but the most recent Restore Points in More Options tab.
  7. Sun released v6 Update 7 of Java Go to Add/Remove Programs and un-install all versions of Sun Java. Download Sun Java update then install: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp Note: Un-select the Open Office Suite download if you do not want it installed as well. Go to Secunia: Online Software Inspector to verify correct version of Sun Java installation: http://secunia.com/software_inspector
  8. I said I don't use their HOSTS file not the main application.
  9. I bet it cured your crappy connections
  10. I received the update on July 7th with HostsMan's Automatic update: http://www.abelhadigital.com
  11. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it think!
  12. I removed its Immunize settings then un-installed the old version then rebooted an downloaded then installed the new version. I did not select Tea-Timer as I run WinPatrol and Windows Defender that provide similar function.
  13. Sorry to hear that you don't use that fine Geordie's list.

    Paint.NET

http://www.getpaint.net/index.html What's New: http://www.getpaint.net/roadmap.html It requires Microsoft .NET Framework: http://www.microsoft.com/NET
  15. I guess I was about 15 when I was asked to go for an eye test because I always sat at the front of the class and squinted to see the board to write down the notes. I had to get glasses and because I was a bit of a nerd they suited me but I didn't get headaches if I wore them in class to take notes. When I got a job I tried hard contact lenses but they really bugged me and soft lenses were just coming out so I got those and they were great but required a rigorous cleaning method each night involving rinsing them in saline disinfectant solution and leaving them in a special heating unit overnight. The soft contact lenses have vastly improved so that I am able to wear them for about 3 days and they don't bother me.
  16. WinPatrol 15.5.2008 Download: http://www.winpatrol.com Its for X64 system users mainly.
  17. Welcome HeAdRuSh. What operating system and Updates are you using?
  18. I saw that a while back and I like it now just as much I like the IT Crowd that I catch on BBC Canada every once in a while: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5IBJaLU3v4 My old glasses looked like Moss's glasses. I like their boss and the episode about the creature Denham behind the door had me rolling on the floor.
  19. They indicate -1.75. They don't have any special coating but I will wear the contacts outside and wear my sunglasses that make me look like Dale Gribble of King of the Hill but I would never wear a ball hat: http://www.fox.com/kingofthehill/bios/dale.htm They are so light that they seem to just float on my nose. I used to have astigmatism but the doctor never mentioned it this time. I take multi vitamins that have 2 types of vitamin A plus I like raw carrots.

  21. I'll type as slow as I possibly can. If you have a system with SP2 installed then SP1 is already installed. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  22. Why not ask in their forum?http://forums.spybot.info
  23. I was finally able to afford an eye test and purchase new glasses as I had not had my eyes checked in over 10 years and my old glasses left me seeing fuzzy in the distance. They are amazing as they have flexible Titanium frames and light glass that I must be careful with to not scratch. I was given a complete cleaning kit plus a free 6 month supply of extended wear contact lenses. The good news is that I don't have signs of Glaucoma and my eyesight had improved because I had not been wearing the glasses much because of the fuzzy distance problem. It was easier to not wear the glasses as I kept loosing them when I took them off to read stuff close up even though I had straps to let them dangle while they weren't being worn but they always got in the way. But I need reading glasses to read the computer monitor but I would rather put up with this minor inconvenience and besides they make me look distinguished and scholarly.
  24. Its probably a false indication. By the way Adobe applications are huge bloated applications that attempt to do all manner of things. I only need a PDF reader so I use Foxit Reader which is only 2.55MB download: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
