Last Two Versions of CCleaner Free will not Load

Recommended Posts

I've used CCleaner Free for a long time now without any problems. Suddenly, when I've downloaded the last two versions, neither wanted to open and a window opens telling me that "Windows cannot access the programme. You may not have the appropriate permissions for access".

When I go to properties and security, although the appropriate permissions are ticked, they are greyed out.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

What operating system are you using?

Are you downloading Ccleaner from here? (recommended)

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

What anti-virus do you use and is it up to date and all scans report no problems?

Make sure Ccleaner is uninstalled.

Check that there is no instance of Ccleaner running in task manager after the uninstall.

Download (but don't install) a new version from the builds page (use slim build)

Then boot into Windows safe mode and install Ccleaner. (ask if you need a reminder on how to do this)

Does it run in safe mode?

Boot back into normal mode and then try Ccleaner again.

Does it run?

No, at a guess, it's that your antimalware or other security precautions is blocking the google installer, which is there to keep ccleaner free. the slim build doesn't have it but isn't available for the first few weeks of release.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

No, I think you are wrong on this... I been running the same set up for over a year... have not had any problem with installing the newer version over the older version.. even before that... had a setup for 3 years the same with security apps installed... nope.. no problem with the installs.. as I said.. something has change in the last few updates... that it throws that error message as stated above.

This is a first for me... So, if there something else ccleaner is doing, well its not working... like it use to be.

please be advised.

Jusy because previously it worked, does not change my theory that a security definition is at the root of your difficulty

The slim version of build 5.04.5151 has been out several days now.

You might give it a try, although you said in post #6 that you had already done that.

As described in post #4.

Keep trying, someone on the forum will know how to get it to install.  :)

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

I also have been using CCleaner for years; but had been LAX in updating it. Recently I decided I should update. On installation the main screen would LOAD but no buttons were active. To stop it I have to use Task Manager. Thinking it was a new problem, I found a site with back level download. I tried 3 Version 5 releases, same issue, then downloaded and installed 4.19 (the oldest version I could find) All exhibit same problem. Currently I am attempting to UnInstall 4.19 (using Control Panel) That process is hung in the middle of uninstall). I use AVAST anti-virus, have an active system monitor Mooo and am evaluating Wise 365. My intent (if I can get 4.19 UnInstalled is to re-install current CCleaner in safe mode as Administrator then try to run it. I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64. Would appreciate any other suggestions.
