Ccleaner 4.02 free will not install

Downloaded the install from all 3 locations. Ran the .exe, it sends a ping command then just sits there with the setup stating installing ccleaner plaease wait......I wait , no HDD activity.

 

I downloaded Ccleaner 4.02 free portable and it works fine. Something wrong with the install version.

 

 

edit - I'm running XP Home SP3 with all updates installed to date. I also disabled AVG free when trying to install.

Found out the problem. When trying to install 4.02 with ZoneAlarm free running it asked for permission to access the internet with the ping via nsa3.tmp, which I allowed. I just tried the install with ZA free disable and it installed like always with no problem.

Glad to see you're sorted - not sure why so many people are having difficulty installing.

Actually there are only 2 officially approved locations that I know of, Piriform and FileHippo.

There are dozens of others which may include parasitic "downloaders" or toolbars,

and many more that may be even more nefarious than CNET

When I seen your reply I did a google search like I did before for download Ccleaner and it had the piriform link which took me to the download page @ https://piriform.com/ccleaner/download which listed filehippo, piriform and download.com the screen capture was created Today, May 28, 2013, 6:44:35 PM

 

 

edit - winapp2.ini - I didn't see about trouble with 4.02 free that why I started the topic. I'm releived it was more than just me having trouble. I dunno whats going on, I never had to disable ZA or AVG before.

I never had to disable ZA or AVG before.

 

From what I know the installer/setup file "phones home" as reported by other users, although it's nothing nefarious but instead to only make certain you're installing the newest available version.

 

Edit:

That "phoning home" would of course need a temporary allow from a firewall, and could possibly upset some antivirus software.

This is weird

 

When I search for ccleaner download" I get various results including :-

and when I hit the Download button that is on the left of the "BUY NOW" button I am taken to

This lists only FileHippo.com followed by Piriform.com

Unlike your screen shot it :-

Does NOT list Dowmload.com

and the CCleaner Professional Price is reduced from £24.95 to £19.95

 

I have another search result link that takes me directly to

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

and this is exactly like your screen shot, including Download.com and price reduced from $32.95 to $24.95

 

I have now gone back to

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

and I inserted 's' to change from http to https

I see exactly the same now as when I was using http.

 

I notice that when I start with a link that uses http,

the currency is in Pounds, recognising that I am in Britain;

but when I start with a link that uses https,

the currency is in Dollars, which implies I am assumed to be American.

 

Personally I am thankful to be protected from the risk of a Download.com/CNET downloader.

From the UK I get exactly the same page as you with 3 download locations

yes, piriform on their download page added download.com around the end of version 3, Alan is remembering old information

 

it does no good to compare search results as "Search Bubbling" will always cause different results for different people http://dontbubble.us/

To make it even more strange, from the UK I can't at all recollect seeing "Download.com" on the download page, and I don't see it from jm's link in post#5 ...

I do not think Search Bubbling is in any way relevant to the results that I personally utilised.

 

I understand and accept that my history affects the ORDER in which results are presented to me,

but have seen no evidence that suggests that a specific web address will result in a destination web-site that is affected by history.

 

I firmly believe that an address bar target of "//xyz" preceded by "http:" should take everybody to the same website - unless there is a DNS failure in address resolution,

BUT that the destination website MAY alter the information it presents to a visitor depending upon its knowledge of the visitors :-

Geo-location (e.g. Currency in Pounds or Dollars),

Cookies,

and the Browser version and Operating System and other stuff that the browser reveals to the sites we visit.

There may also be caches that need flushing.

 

It is unfortunate that the forum website software mutilates and shortens the appearance of the links.

When I click on that link it normally results in that unsecured address in the address bar

But depending upon what I have been doing it might be redirected to the secured https version.

 

Both the unsecured destination and the secured destination are ALWAYS (I think) the correct Piriform site.

 

The correct Piriform site is ALWAYS variable.

Sometimes it thinks I have Dollars in my pocket and the currency is in Dollars.

Sometimes it thinks I may be lucky and have a Pound.

 

The Piriform site is throughout many tests very consistent in that

Dollar currency results in Download.com plus two trustworthy download links

Pound Currency results in nothing but two trustworthy sites.

 

I assume that the Piriform site content is controlled by Piriform to suit marketing or management criteria.

 

I do not know why Piriform is so confused about my location - perhaps it would have a better idea if Starpage was not protecting my privacy from Google.

During some of my tests it seemed that if I Pasted the address into the address bar the final result was affected by whether I committed with the "Return" key or the "Enter" key.

But regardless of location confusions, if I was British there was no download.com, and if I was American then there was Download.com

Perhaps Americans need no protection from download.com and its "extras" because Download.com are afraid of hungry lawyers

Reply to all - Been using CCleaner free for a long time and will continue to use it...just luv it, and even more now using it with []. I reside in NJ USA, using FF21.0, cache always emptied when exiting FF. OS XP Home SP3 with all available updates installed.

 

To clarify what I did I downloaded it from all 3 locations presented to me, glad somebody else got the 3 locations also....Why I don't know...must be gremlins LOL. I thought I mighta got a bad download, when it hung up during the install showing please wait while installing so I downloded it from all 3 locations. I got the notice from ZA free that it wanted to do the ping thing, I allowed it and it still hung up during the install. Got nothing from AVG free. I disabled AVG free and tried again, no go still. Then I shut down ZA free and tried it and bingo it worked.

 

I posted the screen pics so nobody thought I was bonkers about the 3 download sites that I got from google.

 

Bottom line CCleaner 4.02 installed and is working fine with both ZA free and AVG free running. Just thought I'd post what worked for me to get it installed, knowing that some programs cause other programs to go a lil bonkers and I don't blame any of them.

 

Thinking of the 900 gazillion lines of code programs have today, I remember what the Commodore 64 accomplished with 64K and programs that were good that fit on a 144K 5 1/4 inch floppy. I had a 20MB Xetec HDD on it and could fit a gazillion C64 programs on it. But that was yesterday and yesterday's gone.

 

Just hope what I posted helped somebody.

it could be that a momentary Virus/Signature Definition or a overzealous firewall

let ZA know that it's an ok ping

or if you wish not to have the ping, or whatever it was, you can always extract the portable version on top of your current intall for further updates.

I'm glad too. It was a ping.exe that popped up in ZA free from nsa3.tmp during the install which I allowed.

 

All is good, happier than a pig in poop!

Since it was a *.tmp file it's pointless to add a rule into ZA, because the time the next update is released it will be a different .tmp file and you'd be faced with the same temporary allow. At least ZA is protecting you!

 

I don't know how much experience you have with ZA but a caveat I'll let you know about and that is completely disable it when uninstalling/installing system drivers like for graphics cards, printers/scanners, etc., as it can lock up your whole system in a non-recoverable way and mess up allot of stuff in doing so.

Andavari - Thanks for the reply and the heads up. I been using ZA and CC for a long time (I'm almost older then dirt). There are not many things that I allow permanently into ZA, and hate having to uncheck the remember this setting box (I can't remember in what version of ZA where the remember this setting was checked by default). I like to know when something wants access to the internet. I'm behind a router and use ZA for outbound traffic monitoring.

 

I hit the lil bump in the road during the latest install and am now cruising along. I may be one of the lucky ones but this is the first problem I can recall having while installing or uninstalling anything including system drivers with ZA running and temporarily allowing access.
