avast question

Have ccleaner version 4 and Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. I upgraded avast from version 7 to version 8 and in application column in ccleaner, it lists avast 6 and avast 8. I've cleaned both, but there are always 5 log files that come back in the avast 6 section.

Can anyone explain?

I did an upgrade to avast 8, not a clean install (seems to be working fine) and I can't fine any reference to version 6 or 7 for that matter, unless I'm not looking in the right spot??

Looking for answers, thanks.

It's either a registry detection or a file/folder detection which is in the same place as the previous version. You could untick Avast 6 and ignore it, and then when Avast has another major version jump to lets say 9 try a clean install to see if that fixes the issue.

Here is the issue, (developers please take note):

They both use the SAME detect keys

Current Code (including AA4 and 5)

[Avast! Antivirus 4]
ID=2160
LangSecRef=3024
Detect=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\4.0
Default=True
FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report|avast.xsl;Resident protection.txt;Simple user interface.txt;Simple user interface*.xml
FileKey2=%ProgramFiles%\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log|*.*

[Avast! Antivirus 5]
ID=2161
LangSecRef=3024
Detect=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\5.0
Default=True
FileKey1=%ProgramData%\Alwil Software\Avast5\report|avast.xsl;avast.xsl;Resident protection.txt;Simple user interface.txt;Simple user interface*.xml
FileKey2=%ProgramData%\Alwil Software\Avast5\log|*.*

[Avast! Antivirus 6]
ID=2271
LangSecRef=3024
Detect=HKLM\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Detect2=HKCU\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Default=True
FileKey1=%ProgramData%\Avast Software\Avast\log|*.*

[Avast! Antivirus 8]
ID=2324
LangSecRef=3024
Detect=HKLM\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Detect2=HKCU\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Default=True
FileKey1=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\log|*.txt
FileKey2=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\Spamconf|*.bin.tmp*
FileKey3=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\report|*.txt

Suggested Change for developers to make

[Avast! Antivirus]
ID=2271
LangSecRef=3024
Detect=HKLM\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Detect2=HKCU\Software\Avast Software\Avast
Detect3=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\4.0
Detect4=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\5.0
Default=True
FileKey1=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\log|*.txt
FileKey2=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\Spamconf|*.bin.tmp*
FileKey3=%ProgramData%\AVAST Software\Avast\report|*.txt
FileKey4=%ProgramFiles%\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report|avast.xsl;Resident protection.txt;Simple user interface.txt;Simple user interface*.xml
FileKey5=%ProgramFiles%\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log|*.*
FileKey6=%ProgramData%\Alwil Software\Avast5\report|avast.xsl;avast.xsl;Resident protection.txt;Simple user interface.txt;Simple user interface*.xml
FileKey7=%ProgramData%\Alwil Software\Avast5\log|*.*

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

yes, this is because the reason that I said in the post above :P

in fact even if you never installed 8 and only had 6, it would show both.

"...in fact even if you never installed 8 and only had 6, it would show both..."

Thanks, good explanation. Have wondered about that for a while now.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.
