Thanks!
Hey, when I try to download more skins it tells me "There is no application associated with the given file name". I kinda know where associations are but I've never done this before. I never had a reason to.
Anyway, Avast has many files in it. Which file do I associate? And with what? IE7? (I assume IE7, it's not listed as my default browser (duh)).

You'll have to point me to that handy dandy AntiVir pop-up removal thread. I forgot where it's located. I want to bookmark it.
Anyway, gonna install Avast Ye Swabs! now.
-
I told you I didn't know all the details. Well, hope it works out okay.
-
I don't know all the details but I would be reeeeeeeeally leery of something like that. As long as you're not using my credit card I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

The media player looking default skin
Oh, so that's what that monstrosity is known as. Why is it the default? Who are their target audience, 12 year old Nascar and WWF fans?
I'll give Avast Ye Mateys! another shot & try a different skin. (I never knew it had skins.)

No, you're supposed to say,
"Yes.........yes it does."

I'm sure Avast is a fine program. I tried it about 6 months ago, took one look at the interface, said "Ewwww!" and uninstalled it. Sorry, the cutting-edge designs of 1994 just doesn't grab me, not even in a retro way. I don't think a serious av app should appear as a 1-inch thick blob of silver on my monitor.
-
I didn't set it to a higher priority. Things run slow enough with AVG running at 'normal'.
-
I haven't compared them, but today it took AVG 7.5 over 6 hours to do a thorough scan my PC. It used to take 90 minutes.

I actually found a theme I like its called Phoenity Aura. Just a really clean looking theme.
He's a clean theme.
I'm not touching FF3 till it's final and can support my favorite add-ons.

Okay, it's only a 60 minute demo with an option to buy.
Bill Murray - "Okay....so....she's a dog."
Try this demo for one hour (and then uninstall it and CCleaner it if you want) and tell me you weren't impressed. It's that good. I bought it.
I ought to tell you right now that hpHosts added www.bigfishgames.com to their files. I don't know why, they never gave me any reason. I guess paranoid is safe, in a paranoid kinda way. But damn, how long you plan to live on this friggin rock?

I never saw the need for SuperAntiSpyware. A few years ago I tried it after trying Adaware and Spybot and it found nothing. And I tried the newest version 2 days ago and still nothing. He's a clean man.
-
I tried the Secunia Personal Edition but it didn't even list those ancient MS products (Money, etc.) as insecure or 'end of life'. Weird.

I've tried Bloxors before and I remember not being able to beat level 3 or 4. Neat game but huge learning curve.
If you've never played them before I highly recommend Mateusz's games.
The entire Submachine series, Covert Front 1 & 2, and Daymare Town 1 & 2 games are his most famous.
Eyezmaze is On's site. The left side of the screen lists all his games. Pay particular attention to the Grow games, and to the masterpiece "Dwarf Complete" tucked all the way down there near the bottom left. That one is HUGE.
Nifflas has 3 downloadable games (all squeaky clean) that are incredible. Within A Deep Forest, and Knytt are excellent. Knytt Stories is okay but not as good as the other two.
The Cageling was made around 2002? Click the Play Online link near the top. This is beautifully done.
The Hapland series will tear your hair out, in a fun way.
And this silly game just cracks me up. More of a web toy than a game.

I know quite a few that will make you wish I never mentioned them. They're fun, they're free, they're 'adware clean', they're family orientated, and they have no business coming into contact with any frazzled parents dealing with teens and mortgages who can use that time better spent screaming and ranting and frothing at the mouth.
Anyone wants to know of them, ask. I need a fun project.
-
Oh, RegCure. That's one of the ones out there that offers "free download", among dozens of others.
So this is what used carsalesmen do after they get fired. They sell adware scams.
-
So, what part of earthquake ravaged China did you download that obviously hacked version of CCleaner from?
Do yourself a big favor and download your essentials from FileHippo. Paul McCartney - "He's a clean man."
I've heard of people getting scammed into paying for the free Firefox browser. You gotta wonder how on earth they found such bogus ads. Where could ads like that exist without being seriously questioned after 24 hours?
Here's a hint...Stop surfing pr0n!
Please don't take any of this as an insult. My head just wants to a-splode when I hear of scams like this.
----------
By the way, there are legitimate adware cleaners out there that do the exact same thing that you claim CCleaner is asking for. Beware, when something says "Free download" that's exactly what it is and that's exactly what is free...the download...not the programs' service.

Unusual pic that. Took a while to find your icons. I like to have a nose at what's on folks desktops.
I love looking at icons on other peoples' desktops too. That's how I find out what's out there. I Google the icon name.
I know, I know, I usually 'hide' my desktop icons for a screenshot. The few icons I have are from Big Fish Games or the Myst series or from indy game developers.
The screenshot is from Uru: The Path Of The Shell, an intense anti-logic Myst game. It looks even better when all that water is roaring downward.
Woody, that is one trippy desktop.

Where does it say that I'll be buying an HP in 2009?
Too many other PCs out there for me to take notice. But I'll keep that in mind.

It never gets old. Sure, it's not a typical reply-based thread, but I always peek at new ones when they post just to take a gander at what people are doing. And I like posting my desktops when I get something interesting as well.

Yeah but I've noticed lately that that kind of feature is disabled if you don't have IE set as your default browser. Of course there's no option to find out what web site the app is trying to connect to. It's buried.
There was one other skin automatically built within the downloaded app. I changed it to that. Not the greatest but better than that silver blob.
