  1. Seems like anything before 2004 is not only ancient history, it's non-history.

Kent Brockman - "So Professor, are you saying we should bash in their skulls and feast on the goo inside?"

    Professor - "Yes Kent."

  2. I tried Opera about 8 months ago and it was pretty darn good. As far as FF extensions vs Opera go, I can't vouch for that. There are so many different FF extensions that your preferences may be totally different than mine.

Does Opera have features similar to All In Wonder Sidebar, Tab Mix Plus, No Script, Download Statusbar, Back To Top, AdBlock Plus, & IE View Lite?

Opera's a freeware developing company. Do they have a division of extension developers?

  3. It figures. The one day Free Giveaway has something I want their connection go kaput when I try to activate the software. They must've found out it was me.

    Okay, now it works.

  4. My first computer in 1994 was a PowerMac 8500. I bought a PC with Windows 98 in 1999. Now I can't remember if I bought that AV for the Mac or for the PC. I did have dialup internet on my Mac for a few years. (The horror......the horror....) So I was aware of the need for an AV at that time. And it seems soooo friggin long ago that I assume I got Norton for the Mac. Norton had like 8 widgets on the bottom of the monitor, and some of them were not small. I wish I had a screenshot.

(There was a program for the Mac called Kaleidoscope that worked a bit like WindowBlinds, changed the color and format of window themes. Most individual schemes were about 20 to 100 KB in size and I remember the agony of waiting and waiting to download them.)

I Googled it and Norton shows it made AV for Macs since 1998.

    clicky

And this box looks really familiar...

  5. I don't know how old you are but Norton AntiVirus in the mid 1990s was quite a spectacle on Macintosh computers. They'd have multiple widgets up the wazoo that would eat up a 1/3rd of your monitor just telling you that "EVERYTHING IS OKAY!!!" So you can imagine what happened if a virus infected you, or God forbid some new unknown legal application was installing. (There was no malware back then so it was either really a virus or a new unknown app.)

And while it ate up a 3rd of your monitor it would easily eat up 1/2 of your ram. And that was in the quiet "EVERYTHING IS OKAY!!!" mode. It was totally insane.

  6. Yeah but why were the articles mentioning Hewlett-Packard AMD Intel-based processors or Intel-based AMD processors? I know that makes no sense, but that's what it sounded like what they were saying. Friggin boneheads.

Anyway, sounds like I won't have those reboot looping problems if I update to SP3. Heh, a new cereal. Boot Loops!

I'm waiting for Firefox 3 to come out of hair-ripping Mega Alpha RC before I try my luck with SP3. One behemoth at a time.

Sounds like any FF3beta was better than the current RC. :(

  7. Thanks for the app! I kinda know what it's showing me but I still don't know how to find out if the dreaded AMD driver or whatever it is, is within my pooter or not. You want I should post the report for you?

I'm posting it anyway, minus the boring personal stuff...

And that's my PCs' exciting story. See anything in there that tells me whether it uses AMD or not?

  8. A virus, or a cookie adware?

No they are supporting 7.5 until Dec 31, 2008.

Here is the official thread from the AVG forums....

Okay, but during a scan using AVG 7.5 today a pop-up came up & said only thru May 31st. Might be old news by now, but they never updated that pop-up since then. (And that's the 1st time I ever got a pop-up in 7.5. )

  9. Kinda tough to round edges. IcoFX seems to have the ability to create rounded templates but dang if I know how to use it. The one major problem with IcoFX is that it's inline help section is completely void. The online tutorials are okay for basic stuff, but not for what I wanna do. :(

  10. Well, I didn't draw them or come up with the mathematical formulas. Just faking it enough times without destroying my PC forcing me to reformat is enough incentive to keep me plugging away. That wasn't the case 12 years ago.;)
