  1. Thanks for the heads up! Where did you hear about the Beta 3 release? (edit: n/m I saw it on the Opera Beta forum) Unfortunately, ftp.opera.com is not loading for me right now.
  2. FYI, I put CCleaner on my grandfather's computer last night, and successfully downloaded the winapp2.ini file. That was at about 8:30pm EDT on 08-10-09.
  3. I hosted in on my server instead. Is this viewable by anyone?
  4. As you'll in the screenshot below, the icons next to items to be cleaned, and icons next to items in the results window are not displayed in Windows 2000. In XP, there are icons next to all of these items, but in 2000, there is just a checkmark or nothing at all. This has been the case ever since CCleaner 2 was released.
  5. Smart Defrag is the best, because not only is it faster at defragmenting, it also optimizes your hard drive by rearranging files for faster access. Don't bother with the RAM optimizers your listed. However, an excellent one I really like is CleanMem. To download the free version of Avira AntiVir, see the link I posted in my first post.
  6. Hardware firewalls offer the best inbound protection, but have no outbound protection. That's why I use a software firewall. The best free firewall in my opinion is Outpost Firewall. AVG is good for anti-virus, but in my opinion the best free AV is Avira AntiVir. If you're willing to pay for AV software, the absolute best is ESET NOD32. I would also use both hpHosts and MVPS hosts files as they block almost every ad from every website, as well as prevent access to dangerous websites. The easiest way to install and update your hosts file is using HostsMan. For anti-spyware apps, MBAM is definitely tops, so you're good there. No need to bother with SuperAntiSpyware. For defragmenting/optimizing your HDD, I would use IObit Smart Defrag.
  7. It's currently consuming 34MB, but I've never seen a peak usage over 80MB.
  8. Is it just me, or does performance seem to vary from build to build? Build 1651 seemed very fast, but 1679 didn't seem near as fast to me. Now that 1691 has been released, it seems very snappy again. What's up with that?
  9. Thanks! I had already used JavaRa to confirm that it was gone, and that MS utility worked perfectly. Am I correct in assuming that that utility can only remove MSI entries and not other types of installers? There is another outdated entry I'd like to remove, that does not appear in the utility's list.
  10. I recently noticed an item in my Add/Remove Programs list called Java 6 Update 7. I tried running the uninstaller but consistently get an error. After confirming that Update 7 is not actually still installed, I attempted to use CCleaner to remove that entry from the list, but get the error shown below. Is this normal, or am I experiencing a problem?
  11. Again, that's something that is very easy to do with Hostsman. I'm not sure why everyone in this thread seems to be recommending doing everything the long, manual way, but Hostsman simplifies everything to do with hosts file management.
  12. Or better yet use Hostsman to manage your hosts file. Also, you should use both the MVPS and hpHosts hosts files.
  13. Icedrake already posted a direct link from Opera's site above....
  14. No one has mentioned Opera Mail; that's certainly worth looking at. Personally, I use the Gmail web interface and the Gmail Mobile app on my phone.
  15. I was looking at the blog where they posted the last build (1642): http://my.opera.com/chooseopera/blog. Thanks for the link!
  16. Where can you download the latest build? I don't see a link to it on the Opera Desktop Blog, the Opera Beta page, or the Opera forums. Also, the build-in updater never picks up on new builds. Link please!

    MyDefrag

It's probably fine. Heck, it's advertised in the FileHippo update section right on the CCleaner homepage. It's MUCH slower at defragging/optimizing than IOBit SmartDefrag, but it seems to do a more thorough job. I think I'll stick with IOBit for weekly defrags, and the new MyDefrag for monthly runs.

I wish I could upgrade to IE8 too. I don't understand this. This severe slowdown issue has been around for months now, and Microsoft hasn't come out with a fix yet? Let me get this straight...Microsoft's browser SEVERELY slows down THEIR OWN operating system, but browsers from other developers work great on the same OS? How crappy is that? This makes me think that Microsoft truly deserves their reputation for poorly engineered software.
  19. Thats the build that has the still-buggy Opera Unite feature. If you want the main Beta 10 release without Unite, download 1642.
  20. Cool, thanks for the heads up. If anyone wants more info on this build, here's the Opera Blog post: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2009/...ore-than-beta-2. EDIT: the version in the blog post above is an "experimental" version that contains the buggy Opera Unite feature. The "full" release of Beta 2 (build 1642 also) can be found here: http://my.opera.com/chooseopera/blog/2009/...opera-10-beta-2. Is it just me, or does every new release of Opera 10 get faster and faster?
  21. I don't see anything new on the Opera Blog or the Opera download site. What version are you talking about? 10 Beta 3?
  22. I'm 27, but man that sounds OLD. Ugh.
  23. I think so too, even much faster than Beta 1. I wasn't expecting much of a difference since Beta 1 already seemed pretty fast, but it definitely is. I also like the default theme better. Have you noticed it closes faster too? With Beta 1 the "opera.exe" process would take FOREVER to close, but with Beta 2 it closes in a matter of seconds.
