  1. Yeah, I dunno either. I'm fairly sure it would happen on all Win2k machines, but I can't be certain. I was hoping the developers simply weren't aware of the issue and that they could fix it easily, but I guess not. Oh well, no biggie.
  2. That's already been brought up here. It seems like there's a lot of double posting on this forum.
  3. I don't have a particular problem with the name CCleaner and what it stands for. However, ever since I first discovered the program in 2005, I always thought "crap" wasn't the most professional thing. It seems a little "trashy" to me in some ways. Overall though, I don't see any reason to change it.
  4. Just be glad you have any icons at all! On my Windows 2000 computer, there are none. See here I see what you mean though, it is the Opera 9.xx icon.
  5. Something similar to that happens to me fairly often, but only on this forum and only when using Opera. If I click "add replay" when I'm not signed in, it will take me to the log-in page, but even after entering my correct username and password, it won't let me progress beyond the log-in screen. Simply hitting the "refresh" button allows me to progress to the add reply page. Like I said, only this forum and only in Opera. I have no explanation for why this happens.
  6. Nope, and there's already several other threads about Opera 10 not being cleaned. Here's one.
  7. I'm in the same position with NOD32, but I think I'll head back to my trusty Avira. I tried Avast years ago, and I think the reason I didn't like it was it slowed my system down or something along those lines.
  8. You won't see any noticeable speed difference on a broadband connection. All data being routed through a proxy server can be a security concern, but I don't think you need to worry too much about it. I use Opera Mini on my cell phone every day, and all sites run through Opera servers which compresses the pages to a smaller size so they load faster on mobile connections (they look the same as on your computer, they just use less data).
  9. I will admit, for a BRIEF moment I thought the pic was real. I was like, THAT is what you guys look like??
  10. Well, it appears so though we were mistaken. Both abu aufa and I were suddenly able to visit sites that used to be blocked, which led us to believe the blocked domains of the Windows hosts file were not being recognized by Opera 10. As you can see by my thread on the Opera forums, the hosts file is actually still working. It turns out that the reason we're able to visit those sites, is the hosts files have been updated and those domains are no longer being blocked. For example, in all the many years I've been using hpHosts and MVPS, www.myspace.com has ALWAYS been blocked. So when I was suddenly able to visit that site, I assumed it was a fault in Opera. As it turns out, my hosts file is simply not blocking MySpace anymore. This is actually a really good thing, as we can continue using the hosts file to block bad sites and ads in Opera! I really like Fanboy's AdBlock list, so I'll probably continue using that in conjunction with the hosts file to add another layer of protection.
  11. I just tried it, and yes it sure does! Very impressed so far. As far as the hosts file issue, I just remembered that Opera ignoring the hosts file has been occurring ever since 10 Alpha...it is not something specific with the recent 10 final release. I posted on the official Opera forums way back then too, and the issue was completely ignored. Because of that, it is unlikely the issue will be taken seriously, so it looks like Fanboy's AdBlock List will be the way to go for Opera users for the foreseeable future.
  12. I will update when I get a response on the Opera forum. Until then, I am investigating Fanboy's AdBlock List which is easy to install and seems to accomplish the same thing as a Windows hosts file (or similar). This was suggested by agua in a different thread and looks interesting.
  13. Wow, this is just AWFUL. I've been using hosts files to block internet ads for years, and now suddenly that's all out the window. If I can't block ads with a hosts file, I'm done with Opera. EDIT: FYI I started a thread in the official Opera forums
  14. Yeah, other people reported that too. I'm not sure why it still appears in my Applications list. I've uninstalled all previous versions, and even deleted all Opera Preview/Beta folders in Docs/App Data.
  15. Yeah it's quick, but the reduced image quality doesn't make it worth while to me.
  16. I just wanted to post to confirm now that Opera 10.00 final has been released, CCleaner 2.23.993 is not cleaning it. Opera 10 final (build 1750) is the only version I have installed, and even though Opera still appears in the Application list, nothing is being cleaned.
  17. It's now listed on the main page and in the blog. Interestingly, the build number is the same as RC2 (1750).
  18. I'll wait until it's announced here. As Icedrake pointed out, it's already available on their FTP site, but I'll wait until the official announcement is made and it's available on the main page.
  19. CCleaner works fine on my Windows 2000 Professional system, except for a few small issues that aren't acknowledged in CCleaner documentation. See here.
  20. This is discussed on forums all too often. Everyone has their own opinion, and everyone has different needs. All I can say is you have to decide for yourself. If you've already tried IE, Firefox, and Opera, I would look at Google Chrome/SRWare Iron.
  21. They are definitely not updated anymore. I have uninstalled both since I only use IE for Microsoft update. Spyware Blaster is definitely worth using if you use IE or Firefox. I use Opera, so SB is useless to me. I would definitely recommend HostsMan. I use both MVPS and hpHosts hosts files and have experienced no slowdowns. Just make sure you use the "overwrite" option to remove old entries. Good point about removing domains from the hosts file. It doesn't seem to be true about every site, but many have both forms (www.oldapps.com and oldapps.com).
  22. That's a lot of fixes! I had actually experienced a few of those bugs myself.
  23. If a large hosts file is slowing your computer down, that most likely means you still have the DNS Client service enabled. Do you use HostsMan to manage your hosts file? It is easy to disable the DNS Client service using HostsMan (it is completely unnecessary). Also in HostsMan, you should never use the "merge" option in the update window. If you select "overwrite", it will merge both hosts files together, and delete duplicate entries. I've been using both MVPS and hpHosts hosts files for years and it actually SPEEDS UP browsing because of all the ads that are blocked. As for too many sites being blocked, only twice has a site been blocked that I've tried to visit. One was the oldapps.com site from my other thread, and the other was MySpace.com. I agree that MySpace probably shouldn't be blocked, but in HostsMan it's very easy to delete domains from the hosts file, so I just removed MySpace and all is good.
  24. Maybe Microsoft will introduce that "feature" on Windows 8!
  25. Well whatever settings I'm using must be working pretty well since it stealths all my ports, and catches all software that tries to access the internet. That's exactly what a good firewall should do. In fact, I think Outpost goes a little too far. It's annoying to have to hit "allow" every time a program makes a change to your system registry. That seems to happen quite a lot.
