  1. Thank you! One more question...it is ok to delete backup registry in my documents folder when you don't need them? Rose

Yes; but I would wait for a week or more to be sure there are no issues.

  2. I uninstalled and during the last reinstall I noticed that their is an option to add a shortcut to the desk top and below this is the option to add a shortcut to the programs.  This second one is a check box that I unchecked on install.  Is this the reason that it did not show in the all programs list.  Is that what the second checkbox is for??

That would be why you don't have it in the Start Menu.

Second question, I noticed that when I run CCleaner it changes the homepage on IE I had replaced the original with.  Why is this.  Is their a way for CCleaner to leave the homepage I want in IE as is?

Thanks, any further help with these two questions would be appreciated.

What is it changing your homepage too? Almost sounds more like the behavior of a hijacker than CCleaner.

  3. So my question is, how do you use those files back from registry entries that was backup? I hope you can understand me..... I just want to make sure  I will know what to do next time if that happen.

Another question here: I was unsure about advanced so I didn't use it. Even though I read it I didn't understand.  Well that's me...I am slow

Thanks so much! I will be back later to check....hugs, Rose

    1. Simply double click the backup registry file and click Yes to merge. It will restore everything that it removed. You can also see here.

    2. For Advanced, this link should help you.

  4. This is what I have tried and it doesn't work.  I can't get the pop up when I try to click on ADD FOLDER.  I've tried several times and the last few times I tried, my computer freezes and I have to use CTRL+ALT+DEL.  Then the box says CCleaner is not responding.

I wrote to the contact address and asked for help and haven't got a reply  But I noticed they have a statement below the message box that says that Custom Folders is being worked on.  So perhaps it is not my computer but the program.  I'll try it again in a few days and see if it works.

You may wish to try and download the Visual Basic 6 Runtimes as this can often fix many problems.

  5. Thank Tarun I deleted all of those junk files. Now my pc should be at optimum performance! :D

Uninstall Real Player and get Real Alternative if you use it.

Also, if you don't use iTunes or have an iPod, uninstall that too.

  7. What constitutes "heavy disk activity"?

I'm running XP Home, and at the end of the day, I use CClean and then defrag in Nortons SysWks.

What should I do different in my daily "housekeepping".

    Thanks for your insight.

Try not defragging for a few days or a week and see if GoBack keeps having issues.

  8. Tarun , do you think I should dump the defrag program that was install w/Win98SE for the GEODisk , if the defrag doesn't work properly then why keep it?

Also where do I find GEODisk? Your cooperation is much appreciated.

Hindsight is 20/20. Watch Your Backside..

I know that there are still people whom use Windows 9x/ME in this largely XP dominated world. There are also people who have problems running ScanDisk, Defrag, and other such utilities. I actually use this, I find it very handy as it does kill off any unwanted/unneeded items and runs what you request.

GEODisk2 is very simple and easy to use. Just check off whatever options you want to have it run and it will do so. See the attached screenshot to see all that it offers.

This is the tool to solve your ScanDisk and Defrag problems with Windows 98 and Windows ME.  It has an all new user interface to simplify the process for you.  GEODisk2 will check for processes that may be incomplete and recommend that you restart your system if any are found.  You may then use the interface to select which tasks should be performed and the options available for each one.  The first step that GEODisk2 performs is the removal of unnecessary files which you decide upon.  It will then shutdown all unrequired tasks which are running in the background before proceeding to run the Defrag and Scandisk programs.  When all of your selected tasks have been completed GEODisk2 will then optionally restart or shutdown your system.  It also has an all new 'Save Settings' feature which will allow you to continually use the same settings simply by placing a check in the 'Use Previous Settings' box.

  9. Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.

By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

    • Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
    • Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
    • Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.

  10.

    Hi,

Since I am using Firefox more and more as my primary browser (because IE is unsafe and provides a lot of ad-ware and spyware), I noticed that CCleaner does not clean the internet cache and internet history of Firefox.

This 'refusal to clean' also happened with IE sometimes, but after you had performed a second scan everything was cleared.

However, CCleaner doesn't clean the Mozilla cache and history AT all. Do other Mozilla/Firefox-users have the same problem? Any suggestions?

Always works first try here. What OS are you on?

  11. 98 has many issues with defrag... first of all, defrag.exe has to be replaced with the version from Windows Me before it'll stop restarting... even then it'll keep restarting if there's background processes, which is why it's best, in 98, to defrag from safe mode.

Also, using GEODisk will help with that issue.

  12. Hello,

    sorry for my bad english.

I want to suggest a new feature that should be implemented in CCleaner: support for Microsoft Virtual Desktop Manager (part of the PowerToys package). This program allows you to configure 4 independent dekstops with separate backgrounds. The user-configured background images are stored in "c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\" (if the user is Administrator of course). The problem is, that CCleaner is erasing all files when cleaning this directory. The following 4 files should be preserved:

    MSVDM-Desktop0.bmp

    MSVDM-Desktop1.bmp

    MSVDM-Desktop2.bmp

    MSVDM-Desktop3.bmp

    That's all...

    Bye

You should be able to change the directory where those files save if it is a problem. Anything in the TEMP folders is for temporary storage and usage.

  13. I'm noticing that after using CCleaner, I needed to revert my harddrive but GB's is telling me there are no "safe points" (whatever it's called) saved.  Is there something in CCleaner that's erasing these 'points'??

    :(

GoBack stops logging when heavy disk activity is detected. All points before it are usually gone from that.

The file that GoBack saves to is gobackio.bin and is hidden in C:\.

What OS are you running, and have you run defrag after using CCleaner?

  14. Ok, so where can I get quicktime alternative and what is less bloated about it? Plus untill I get rid of that stupid error 1606 I probably cant install it anyway.

Search these forums for Quicktime Alternative. I suggest it a lot with HijackThis logs.
