  1. Obviously, I'm not very good at reading between the lines. Backup? If I needed that file, I could find it on my nightly backup. Just saying.
  2. I looked at the contents of Connections.txt and it appears to be nothing more than a log of past connections. Running CCleaner does remove this file, but causes TeamViewer no problem on my 2 PCs. I ran CCleaner and then started TeamViewer. It logged itself in with no problem.
  3. I have used CCleaner & TeamViewer (various versions of both programs) together for over 2 years and have never had CCleaner damage TeamViewer in any way or delete the login. The Connections.txt file you mentioned is located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\TeamViewer and is intact on both of my 2 Win7 PCs. TeamViewer is listed in CCleaner on the Applications tab in the Utilities section. That box is checked on my PCs but still has never touched the Connections.txt file or affected the login. By chance do you have any Custom Files and Folders set that might include C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\TeamViewer?
  4. I'm sure your son will have another homework assignment.
  5. I just need some FREE TIME! (I need to have a talk with my wife about our schedule)
  6. Thanks Dennis, I may take you up on that. I just need some time to download it and start playing with it. (life gets in the way sometimes) I had some time a couple days ago to play with Movie Maker and I managed to figure a few thing out like trimming the beginning & end and saving in mp4 format. The volume function either doesn't increase it very much or I'm doing it wrong. I ran out of time at that point.
  7. I already have Audacity for working with audio files, but it won't natively deal with the audio track of an mp4 video file to either increase or decrease the volume level. I'll check out Avidemux. I've briefly tried to work with Windows Movie Maker, but it's not very intuitive. It deals with "project" files (.wlmp). I've been able to drag an mp4 file to it, but then I'm lost. I don't see where I can then save the file in mp4 format, even if I could figure out how to do the edits I want. Thanks for the suggestions.
  8. I have some mp4 videos that I would like to be able to edit. Nothing fancy, just be able to cut/crop the beginning or end of a video. Be able to increase/decrease the volume. Free without added unwanted programs would be nice, but I'm willing to pay for one that is fairly simple to use (intuitive). This would be for my Win7 Pro x64 laptop. Any recommendations? Thanks!
  9. After following mta's suggestions, there are 2 disk utility programs I use that may help you interpret the SMART data: CrystalDiskInfo: http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html DiskCheckup: http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm
  10. I still haven't installed the replacement (KB2993651) for the last stinker. Guess by now it should be safe to install it. I'm just gun shy of MS now.
  11. I think I'll wait & watch for a while before installing KB2993651. Not that I'm skeptical of MS or anything...
  12. It's been 2 days since I uninstalled both updates from 2 Win7 machines and so far, no problems. I hadn't experienced any BSOD's or other problems after initially installing the updates, so I was just being overly cautious by removing them.
  13. I have a desktop (new) and laptop both running Win7 Pro x64. I love 'em and have no desire to move to Win8. Win7 is close enough to WinXP with a lot more features. I just bought the desktop after convincing my wife we had to retire her old faithful WinXP machine that she loved. She is adjusting nicely.
  14. Done. No problems uninstalling both updates from both PCs. Now I'll just watch & wait.
  15. OK, thanks. I've got 2 Win7Pro x64 PCs, both with KB2982791 & KB2970228 installed. I'll uninstall both updates on both machines and see what happens. [crossed fingers]
  16. I read the MS Support page and I have a question - after the "Known Issues" section, there is a 12-step "Mitigations" section. Is it necessary to go through those steps in addition to uninstalling the listed updates? If yes, does it matter which is done 1st - uninstall then mitigation, or, mitigation then uninstall? (thank you MS) Neither of my Win7 PCs have had a BSOD since installing the updates, but still...
  17. Thanks for the tip (I had not come across that one in my searches). But I got mixed results. IE, Windows Explorer, Word & Excel did not remember the resized window. Notepad, Acrobat & Firefox did remember the last size & position. I didn't test every program on the laptop, just the ones I use most frequently. I noticed one of the posts in the topic you linked to, recommended a program called AutoSizer (in the link to the MS topic). But that was in answer to a question specifically about IE.
  18. Got it, thanks for the reminder, hazelnut. I love HostsXpert. It makes updating so quick & easy.
  19. While there is a lot to like about Win7, the one thing that bugs me is that it doesn't remember the size & position of a (program) window when it is closed. WinXP did remember the size & position. I've read a lot of tech forum topics complaining about this 'feature' dating back to Win7's earliest days, with no apparent solution or workaround other than installing a window manager. I'm just wondering if anyone here has used a window manager that they would recommend - free or paid? Or, a workaround fix in Win7? I don't want something with a lot of extra bells & whistles, just something that will re-open a window at it's last know size & position the way WinXP does. Thanks for any suggestions.
  20. OH... you want it easy, too?!? Picky, picky
  21. Last FAQ in that link: Do I have to use the installer? No. All FileHippo Installer Enabled products have a Direct Download Link that you can use instead of the Installer.
  22. Interesting link, thanks! It says my officejet 6110 is supported with a basic driver included in Win7. My laserjet 1012 is a problem. There is no universal driver. I ran into this 4 years ago when I bought this Win7 laptop. I ended up installing the 1015 driver which sort of works, but is very slooow. --> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Software-Drivers/Windows-7-Printer-driver-for-HP-Laserjet-1012/td-p/1446867
  23. I've had similar results with the past few CCleaner updates. I found that I had to reboot the PC and then CCleaner would complete normally. Have you rebooted since installing CCleaner?
  24. My wife still loves her WinXP desktop, but I am looking at a Win7 replacement system. She says I'll have to pry the old one from her cold dead fingers. Not techie and she doesn't want to learn a new GUI. Win8 is a total turn-off to her. She struggles with my Win7 laptop when she uses it. Trouble is, I'll also have to replace two printers which HP did not publish Win7 drivers for. $$$$
  25. +1 Backup images have saved my bacon a few times. Quickest & easiest way to recover when things go horribly wrong. Love Macrium Reflect and SyncBack to recover OS & current user data files.
