  1. I also still use WLM on Win7. Since all my email accounts are Gmail, it continues to work. The only thing that no longer works is the calendar. Events I enter in WLM no longer sync with Outlook.com and therefore no longer sync with my cell phone calendar.
  2. Is this recent hack announcement (2016) the same or different than the 2014 hack that hazelnut started this topic with?
  3. Interesting. I let my subscription expire and then checked my credit card online. Infrascale auto-renewed it for another year at last year's price of $79.99. Not the cheapest service but at least no price increase. If they grandfathered in existing customers, they didn't publicize it or notify me.
  4. My backup strategy uses a combination of methods. I have a USB HDD that I connect to backup just data files frequently. I also use Macrium Reflect to take disk images to a different HDD. But all those disk drives sit in my house. In the event of fire or hurricane (I live in Florida) and my house is totally destroyed, my last ditch backup is the cloud. Yes, it may take some time to get to a working internet connection in a disaster, but at least I know that my data is still there. It's just worth the peace of mind to me. My wife is POA for her parents and we have a lot of their documents scanned onto our PC. It would be almost impossible to regain some of those old papers. I have a 50/50 fiber connection, but once the initial upload is done, daily updates for only new or changed files amounts to only a couple MB and only takes about 2 minutes. I used to keep backups in my bank safe deposit box, but running back and forth was a hassle and I found myself not backing up as often (got lazy).
  5. Thanks hazelnut. I've been leaning towards CrashPlan. No way to know if they will have a similar price hike. I think SOS is taking advantage of the current ransomware scare. Here's the more popular one's: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2288745,00.asp
  6. I've used SOS Online Backup for several years and it's worked well for me. I recently received an email from Infrascale (parent company) of new pricing. Basically, they have done away with unlimited storage and replaced it with a tiered pricing structure. My cost will take a HUGE increase so I am looking for a replacement cloud storage to save some money. I've read some reviews for CrashPlan and Carbonite, among others, but I'd like to get some opinions from experts I respect. What cloud storage do you use and what are your opinions and recommendations? Is there one I should avoid? I am only looking to back up one primary desktop PC running Windows 7 to the cloud. I have local backup to an external HDD taken care of as well as disk imaging so all I am looking for is cloud backup.
  7. I was wondering about the Win 10 nagware. Thanks for clearing that up.
  8. Update 46.0.1, May 4, 2016 Add-on signing certificate expiration (Bug 1267318) Service worker update issue (Bug 1267733) Build issue when jit is disabled (Bug 1266366) Page loading issue related to antivirus software (Bug 1268922) Search plugin issue for various locales (Bug 1246494) Limit Sync registration updates (Bug 1262312)
  9. My 92 year old in-laws still use their old XP machine. They are beginning to forget things they used to know how to do on it. I maintain the machine remotely. There is no way I would/could expect these two elderly people to learn a new OS. Both my PCs are Win7 and I'm leaving them there, declining all the Win10 optional updates. I like Win7.
  10. That's why I only get notification and decide which updates I want to install (Windows 7).

    SLIM Build?

Oops, nevermind. I ran CCleaner and tried again. This time it worked. Something must have gotten hosed in the temporary internet files. Dang, that CCleaner is a great program! I should install it!!

    SLIM Build?

Strange. I just tried to download the slim build (firefox) but it quickly bounces to the piriform home page and does nothing.
  14. The Piriform developers are aware of the issue and working on a solution. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=45581&do=findComment&comment=270932
  15. Fantastic! Thanks for looking into this problem.
  16. I also experienced the same problem on my 2 Win7 PCs and went back to v2.19. --> http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=45550
  17. The defrag with ver 2.19 just finished on both PCs, less than an hour from my previous post. Much faster than ver 2.20. Whatever changes were made to ver 2.20, it really slowed it down. For now, I'm staying with ver 2.19.
  18. I updated my 2 Win7 PCs this past week to ver 2.20 (same option settings). Normally, I defrag once a week and both drives are about 1% fragmented. When I started defragging them this morning, both PCs were nowhere near as complete after a few hours. It was obvious both PCs were going to take much longer than with previous versions. I reinstalled ver 2.19 and I've restarted the defrag. I'll see if there is any difference or if it my imagination.
  19. It disabled my Adobe create PDF extension.
  20. I have a second PC which is a Win7 Pro x64 desktop system, so I decided to install HostsServer to see if it would work. I changed the option settings to match what I had set on the laptop. In the short time it's been installed and running, it has not captured anything either. I will let it run in the background just as I have on the laptop.
  21. So with the option settings changed, I re-downloaded the current MVPS hosts file, cleared the HostsServer log and restarted it (9:45am/et). It's back to not recording any entries. I will just let HostsServer run in the background and check it later. I'm going to reboot the laptop first (9:55am/et).
  22. I had started HostsServer yesterday morning and let it run the rest of the day. I had changed the options as Nergal suggested, so it started at login this morning when I powered on the laptop. I opened it's control panel and found it had started recording entries at 1:42pm yesterday. So far this morning, it seems to be recording entries as well. Under On Site Blocked, Activate Log was already checked, but not Include Referrer, so I checked it. But the program was already including the Referrer in the log entries, so I don't know what that option really does. I am totally perplexed why it started capturing entries mid-day yesterday and continues this morning. I had changed nothing. Now I just need to figure out how to use the information, if it continues to work. Thanks for the help, Nergal. I also apologize if I hijacked this thread. I can start a new thread if that would be better.
  23. I had left the settings at the defaults when I installed it, but I went ahead and changed them to match yours as a test. I rebooted to force a login and got a strange result. Right after logging into Windows, this popped up: I clicked on Allow access, but thought it strange to be getting a message from the Windows Firewall since I run Norton Security which has it's own firewall. I checked in Control Panel after this and it showed the Windows Firewall was turned off and it's settings were under the control of Norton Security. I started HostsServer and it's Control Panel showed the green light indicating it was running. But again, no entries appeared in it's log. As a further test, I stopped the Server and exited the program. I then turned off Norton Security virus protection and it's firewall. I again started the HostsServer program and started the server. But still, it captured no entries. I re-enabled Norton Security and rebooted the machine. This time when I logged into Windows, I did not get any message from the Windows Firewall. It appeared to be a one-time thing.
