  1. Whether it's possible to defrag HFS+ would depend on how much support Windows 7's Defragging API has for this format. I guess you could try but personally I would stick to more common formats such as FAT32 or NTFS. Why defrag a HFS+ drive in Windows 7 doesn't Apple have any similar?? Richard S.
  2. Do they still ship new Macs with one button mice?? Richard S.
  3. People move on or pop off I guess, some of my forum friends have vanished of the face of the earth too. Spyware Hell still has SpySentinel although he doesn't appear to be a frequent poster, just as well there are other help forums. Richard S.
  4. For more information about MTP have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol and more importantly "Drawbacks". Richard S.
  5. I think my hate for Apple started with their Quick Time video player which got bundled with most Audio CDs including video content. Apart from being forced to install their software I found Quick Time was far from quick which didn't make sense since mpeg-1 files played fine. Then there's the iPod, iPhone, iPad, overpriced branded rubbish for people with money, I'm so glad I own an iRiver MP3 player Richard S.
  6. Are you running the 32bit or native 64bit verision of Defraggler?? Richard S.
  7. http://www.subservientchicken.com/pre_bk_skinned.swf Just ask and he obeys Richard S.
  8. Everyone has their preferences for music formats some prefer mp3 over wma simple because wma is a Microsoft format. Then you have another bunch of people who would say ogg is better than mp3 because it's an open source format. And lastly the audiophile purists would probably state FLAC as the only way because it's lossless compression. For me I don't mind mp3 or wma but I find wma has slightly better compression / quality than mp3 at the same rate. When listening to my mp3 player / phone I use wma @ 128kbps because I can upload more than using mp3 files @ 192kbps. If you need to convert wma into mp3 try it and see how it sounds while comparing against the original file. Richard S.
  9. A media device with no assigned drive letter in Windows is likely to use MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) for handling files. Unfortunately you cannot recover files from an MTP device because it doesn't provide direct access to the file system. Richard S.
  10. You're looking at the wrong information you want "Data" (far right) not the manufacturer?s best/worse parameters. Richard S.
  11. Got erased accidentally, did you do something or it just happened without prior knowledge?? When Zune is put into removable drive mode, does Windows assign a drive letter?? Richard S.
  12. I don't see any problem defragging the Archos although I suspect you won't see much difference afterwards. Richard S.
  13. Didn't they steal the idea from the WINE Project "Wine Is Not an Emulator" (software to run Windows apps in Linux) lol ?? Converting a lossy audio format into another lossy format can do nothing much but degrade the audio quality of your clips. Furthermore if you're handling DRM protected content you might find it's not possible to convert them (without some tricks). Just out of curiosity why do you want to convert wma into mp3, most phones / media players can handle wma content?? As for programs I've always relied on WinLame to rip CDs / convert files into other formats i.e. mp3, wma. Richard S.
  14. Would it be possible to save the files to a USB Flash drive instead of using your hard drive?? Richard S.
  15. Start/Stop Count has nothing to do with Spin Retry Count, read the wikipedia page the important stuff are highlighted - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. You should only start to worry about your hard drive if: - hear metallic clicking noises - very slow booting, poor file access performance. - desktop periodically freezing i.e. no mouse movement. - Windows keeps switching IDE transfer from DMA to PIO Mode. - High DPC Latency / Interrupts (as seen via Process Explorer) - Reallocated Sector count is above 0 and rising. - "Disk" events with "Bad Block" in System event logs (eventvwr.exe) - Drive temperature rises quickly to 60C+ while the motherboard is much cooler. Richard S.
  16. Could you post more details. i.e. Operating System, and make of card reader. Richard S.
  17. It's not advisable to defrag a flash drive / solid state drive because you'll reduce their life expectancy. Furthermore since there are no moving parts a fragmented file system will not impact on read performance. Richard S.
  18. All defragging programs use the Windows Defragging API, the only differences between each one are purely cosmetic and cost. The Windows defragging tool works well (and better for large files in some cases) but it's time consuming since it has to defrag all files. Defragger has the advantage of better control over files to defrag / increasing contiguous freespace thus taking less time to run. There are other defragging tools on par and better than Defragger but that's my own personal opinion. Richard S.
  19. One of my old hard drives has a reallocation sector count of 000000001 and Speecy say "Good", I'm not sure if I would agree with that assessment. Using HD Tune it highlights reallocation sector count to indicate a possible problem I think Speecy should do something similar. Richard S.
  20. Although the files had been moved to the recycle bin and delete it's possible the original deleted entries still point to the same clusters. Therefore try and see if you can undelete your files from their original location rather than using the recycle bin location. Richard S.
  21. Less aggressive in what way and how many programs have you compared CCleaner with?? CCleaner maybe useful in certain aspects but it's far from being 100% perfect. Richard S.
  22. The first 2 numbers are known as best and worse, tolerances set by the manufacturer which only apply to certain attributes. The numbers on the right hand side are the actual S.M.A.R.T. data values associated with the attributes. For more information have a look at - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. Richard S.
  23. I only suggested to cut and merge mpeg-2 files since they are native to DVD players however Avidemux supports many codecs so AVI files should be fine. When you're ready to save everything try using Video "Copy" and Audio "Copy" modes first, if you experience playback problems i.e. pixelation and audio blips then you will need to change the Video / Audio codecs. Just be aware that certain video formats especially mpeg-2 only work in certain resolutions so you may need to apply a resize "Filter" to fix it. Richard S.
  24. Before you know it somebody finds a way to circumvent annoying technology via PICs or firmware patching Richard S.
