  1. I removed those unused/old display entries via Device Manager. I just had to use these commands to make them visible: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 start devmgmt.msc Haven't noticed any problems after removing them. Also removed obsolete USB-device entries with that USBDeview program.
  2. Is it really safe to do so, since there's some Windows created entries too?
  3. It's possible, that those empty entries are created by SpyBot, since i have SpyBot. Although i don't remember enabling the immunize option. I guess it's still possible, that i have enabled it in some state. I have had it for so long time and few versions, i don't have the latest though.
  4. Why there's no values on those some entries, even though all protection is enabled? Are they still for protection and active?
  5. I don't like that it leaves stuff behind like that, even after SB is uninstalled. I have many entries there without any values on them, like many bonzibuddy entries.
  6. I installed SB again and then enabled/disabled the protection, but still no joy. I tried those permission things, but wasn't able to get rid of those ActiveX Compatibility entries. Well, what to heck, since it seems i'm stuck with them, i keep my SB protection after all.
  7. How the heck i can get rid of those 'ActiveX Compatibility' entries SB created?
  8. Yeah, but i just basicly have not any just for it, since i don't allow ActiveX on IE, except for very trusted sites. But i don't even use IE as my default browser, i use opera and JS is disabled. 3rd-party cookies on both browsers are disabled. + i use Ad-blocker program.
  9. Is there a fast way to remove them? Can i delete the whole 'ActiveX Compatibility' key and then recreate it?
  10. SB tends to bloat the registry with its entries.
  11. Well, my Spybot immunize feature is disabled. I can't think of any other app, that could create those entries.
  12. Are those entries (sites) that i see there, created by SB? Edit: I removed them via IE Options and the entries from HKCU...\History are now gone. But the entries under \ActiveX Compatibility are still there.
  13. I decided to uninstall SpwareBlaster from my system. I really don't have any use for it, because i use Opera, and on IE, i allow ActiveX only for trusted sites. Also don't allow 3rd-party cookies. I first disabled all protection from SB and then uninstalled it using the program own uninstaller. After that i checked the registry and those entries created by SB were still there. Well i rebooted, but after that those entries ARE STILL THERE. Aint SB create entries here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\P3P\History HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\P3P\History There was only 2 entries under HKLM...\P3P\History, but several (i guess all) entries under those other keys. Question is, why they are not removed??
  14. Most spyware, malware and viruses comes from the files, that you download and install. And if you use IE, and don't use secure settings (or your brains), ActiveX is a common cause. Real-time AV should help with this, but if it's out-dated, incorrectly set, or in the worst case; you don't have one, well... And of course, one big reason for infections is virus emails, attachments that you should not open... Also some worms & trojans comes through unpatched Windows. You really should not get infected, if you: Use a proper up-to-date AV, don't download & install any suspicious files, don't open any suspicious email attachments, use a firewall and keep your Windows up to date (Microsoft updates).
  15. I have no idea why CCleaner added this "Hotfix uninstaller" feature. I think it's not really 'temp file cleaner programs' business to deal with those files. But atleast it seems to be safe. It wasn't at first. I always delete those folders manually, every now and then. Only $NtUninstallKBnumber$ folders, nothing else.

    Made my day

Maybe you was his long lost son.
  17. Thanks, this was new to me. Also thanks Kenny for the program. Edit: Btw, they are listed in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB Edit2: I wonder is there any similar programs for displays, since i found an entry referring to my previous Compaq CRT monitor under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY There's also an entry referring to Samsung display. Never had Samsung, but this computer must be connected to it, when this computer was built-up in a store and they tested it.
  18. I don't use those either, but I DO USE SpywareBlaster, even though i use Opera as my default browser. Actually, it seems to be pretty rare to bump into website viruses, when you are browsing the internet. Unless maybe on very underground sites. I have not bumped into a website virus for a very long time. Atleast Avast! has not alerted me. But you can't be 100% sure, that there's no any infections, unless you scan with multiple scanners. It's always possible, that your current real-time AV could let some "crap" through. Some people (who don't know/care much) might think, that "hey, i don't have any viruses, since my AV program has not shown any alerts." Of course it will not show any alerts, if it's out-dated!
  19. I started a new security policy, where i disable JavaScript from my browser (Opera), and use "Edit site preferences" to enable JS for (trusted) sites it's really needed. Security wise this is a really good thing to do, because along with ActiveX, JavaScript is basicly the root of all evil. Another nice thing is, that disabling JS also prevents Flash ads from loading. Disabling JS makes (most) plug-ins not working. With Firefox, you can use "NoScript" extension, which blocks JS from all sites by default. With IE, you can use the "Zones" settings. Just remember, that many (actually not so many) sites will not work correctly with JS disabled, but you can make those specific rules, to allow JS for sites you want it to work. How many of you use this policy? Or do you think it's a pain (to always allow JS for wanted sites)?

    Freeware!

I have BSPlayer 1.38 (ad-free) and i like it. Also like to use external codecs/filters, instead of internal ones.
  21. ERUNT has "saved" me twice. What is comes to System Restore, i have never used it, it's disabled on my system.
  22. I have Notepad++, but to be honest, i really don't have any use for it. Anyway, i use ConTEXT as my default website source code reader.
