  1. I have reason to believe that CCleaner removed a hidden folder: $Ntuninstallwmp11$.

    Thank you, Pat :(

P.S. Am using Windows XP with Service Pack 3

    Hello sweetie70,

    Welcome to the forums.

$Ntuninstallwmp11$ is the name of an MS uninstall program for Windows Media Player11.

I use WinXP Pro SP3 also. I did experience a problem with WMP11 after the MS updates on November 11,2008.

There were 3 updates for WMP11 on that date.

My PC would not pick-up the presence of my DVD/CD drives.

I used the Set Program Access and Defaults to remove access to Windows Media Player and then I reset the check mark to allow access and Windows Media Player was reset and my PC then again recognized the presence of my DVD/CD drives. I did not notice if I had sound problems also at the time.

Maybe this will work for you also.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

  2. I have been exploring, but have not yet used the Registry cleaner portion of CCleaner.

After the analysis there are some file extensions listed as unused, when in reality they are in use:

    .dws - Dreaweaver Site Cache

    .pf - Prefetch

    .tmp - Temp files

Is there any explanation for this? A search of my computer found these to be in use.

    Thanks.

    Hello Sparky,

    Welcome to the forums!!! :D

My first recommendation to MOST users is to "leave the Registry alone" .

Every Registry will have "issues" and in most cases will not cause any noticeable slow downs or problems for most users. Messing with the Registry is for those who have sufficient backup methods of "all" their important data.

Most Registry cleaning products are used to make money for those marketing them. Most users never need such products.

If you are not sufficiently "Backed up" then leave this function alone until you are. Your data and system files must be secure before doing so. The Registry Issues function is only needed by those who do very, very much installing, testing and uninstalling of "dubious" software. All others will not need such things.

Nergal's advice is valuable to those that insist on doing such things and I recommend that you follow his advice.

    Best wishes,

    :) davey

  3. Cheers

And keep up the excellent work.

    Hi Rich,

Thanks for your input about ACDSEE.

Until something permanently is done, you can use the Options > Include feature to clean what you want.

You can now browse to the folder or file that you want. The new updates to CCleaner make using the Include or Exclude option very simple.

    Best wishes,

    :) davey

P.S. Also tick the option to Save all settings to INI file at Options > Advanced and save a copy each time you add "cookies to save" Include/Exclude options. This way you will have a backup of all your settings.

  4. i ran CCleaner a few times and backed up everything. seconds after using CCleaner internet explorer stopped working. it connected, but not displaying the web page. i went back and used the back ups, but to no avail. i think i ran the cleaner and deleted an important file, what should i do to fix this.

    Hi trafficisgood,

    Welcome to the forums. :D

If this is the first time that you used CCleaner, the first thing to do is a reboot.

    This eliminates many reported problems.

If this does not work, what web page are you trying to open?

If you are a new user than you also want to save all required "cookies" and protect your "flash cookies".

  5. Hi all,

    any suggesions appreciated

    Hello cungy,

    Welcome !!! :D

If you did any other maintenance to your PC, I would recommend a "reboot". This eliminates many problems. Since this is Patch Tuesday time of the month, I definitely recommend a REBOOT.

If you still have problems, then make sure that your Microsoft updates worked properly.

Last thing is to do as MrG recommends and try each option until you find out where the problem is occurring.

    Good luck, :) davey

  6. I have used CCleaner literally hundreds of times without any problems and with the same settings as in this instance. However, in this instance I had used MSCONFIG to configure for "Diagnostic Startup" and rebooted into Safe Mode. I ran "Cleaner" analyze & clean and then "Registry" scan & fix. After this I rebooted the PC and checked MSCONFIG. Nothing appeared under the Services tab and resetting to "Normal Startup" has not fixed the problem. Does CCleaner remove services that are disabled in these circumstances? Of cause, silly me, being so confident in using CCleaner after all this time, I did not let CCleaner backup before fixing things.

    CCleaner version: 2.12.660

    Operating System: Windows XP

    Hello CCZ,

    Welcome to the forums!!! :D

You are going to have to rely on ERUNT or System Restore, if you have actually messed up your Registry.

    ERUNT . http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/index.htm

Single Click Creation of a System Restore Point/Runs as a Scheduled Task

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_sysrestorepoint.htm

Silly you is correct. :P You know better to do anything to the Registry without a Back-up.

At least you admit to your foolishness. This will serve as an example to other users.

Thanks for your report and always protect yourself in the future.

    Best wishes,

  7. Do you mean you have two AV installed that is not recommended. Even if not running the real time scanners together having two AV installed can cause problems. If you want to do an AV scan with more than on AV try using the online scanners or use the Portable Apps version of Clam Win which will not interfere with any installed AV.

    Hi Anthony, :D

I have WinXP Pro, Home, and Media Center PCs that I maintain for friends.

They are all set-up with IE7 and IE7Pro with Ad Blocker enabled.

The AV programs or security products I have installed are Avast! as "real-time" scanner. Also installed, up-to-date, and used as desired are Malwarebytes, AVG 7.5 Free Edition, SUPERAntiSpyware Free edition and SpywareBlaster. These identified and removed several pieces of malware over the last year. Personally I run Malwarebytes "quick scan" daily.

I have experienced no conflicts between any of these products. I normally update and run these even with Avast! Free still running. Of course, I don't have more than one scanner running "real-time". Every now and then I even use ESET or Panda on-line scanners just to keep up-to date on their use. This is also with Avast! still running "real-time".

    Best wishes,

    :) davey

  8. 1) The problem is not related to the associations files.

    2) We have no problems with virus / spyware / malware (drweb/spybot/zonelaram/superantispyware/advanced windows care etc.)

    3) Put the files differ, for example, on your desktop, or at the root of C:

    4) I will repeat for the inattentive:

"I looked problematic files. They are empty. They do not have the machine code. But the size, date, and others remain unchanged"

I was not able to make a JPG file to this message. This is prohibited.

You might have seen that the file is empty.

I do computers and software for a very long time. But I see this problem in their own for the first time.

    Hello Fepl,

    Welcome to the forums!!! :D

    You have very serious situation.

We have no reports about similar problems from other users.

From what you are describing, I do not think CCleaner is causing this.

It sounds more like the work of a malicious program and the person using it.

You may have to use some tracking software to figure out when, how and who is doing this.

You may have to be very secretive about this effort also. Your security personnel should be consulted.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

  9. After using the registry cleaner I was not able to download the yahoo gamerooms. Can somebody tell me tell me what it is I am losing when I use the cleaner so I can check it off the list before clicking fixing?

  10. Thanks for the notice, Hazel.

I still use AVG 7.5 mainly for on demand scanning and I usually manually update daily.

The "Piriform Fairy" must have been busy because I managed not to update when the "erroneous" AVG update was released. It came and went without affecting me at all.

    :) davey

P.S. Avast! Free is my main "real-time" active scanner.

Like many other "security aware" users I keep more than one up-to-date scanner on my PC.

These may be the only things available on your PC to allow you to get help -if- when you get infected.

  11. Could anyone please try this?

Or a comment from someone "in charge" would be nice

    Hi Nexer,

    Welcome to the forums.

Have you turned "off" (unticked) the option at Cleaner > Applications tab > Mutimedia list > Adobe Flash Player ? This may help. Your problem is rather unique.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

P.S. What version of Internet Explorer and Firefox are you using?

  12. Yes,

I uninstalled Zonealarm, but uninstall is not removing windows, system 32 file folders and files. Zone alarm support asked me to delete these folders, to fix one of the problems, I am facing in the installation. I am not able to delete it through normal windows commands because of the number of files and file size. That is what I was trying.

I am not to sure what the results will be. Zone Alarm does many things to protect it's files.

You may try running CCleaner in "Safe Mode". You may have better luck.

You should also ask the Zone Alarm experts what they think.

    Welcome to the forums. :D

    We hope to help you.

    :) davey

  13. Thx for the welcome :)

Hope that helps (fix) the confusion ;)

    The Panda

    Thanks for the picture.

Here is a pic of Defraggler > Action > Defrag Drive

I am testing to see the effects. In the pic it is 55% defragmented. When it started the first half of the map was mostly dark blue interspersed with light blue blocks. The string of red blocks is part of the MFT. When I started the MFT was 3 fragments and now it is listed by Windows Disk Defragmenter analysis as 7 fragments.

We will see once it is finished what the MFT results are and any noticeable change in daily usage speed.

    t2260_DriveCdef20081109.png

    :) davey

P.S. I normally only do "file list" defragmentation. It is sufficient for most users. This is a "special" test of "whole drive defrag" for this Hard Drive. A drive with both dark blue and interspersed light blue blocks is a "healthy" drive. Having up to 10% fragmentation is normal also.

P.S.S. The above map is a Defraggler graphical depiction of a WinXP system. Windows Vista depictions may show much more "fragmentation" and mislead the user into thinking that their Drive is in terrible shape when in actuality their Drive is in proper "healthy" condition.

  14. Hi guys. Check this out!!!

I found out that Google Earth dumps it's internet cache in this directory:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth\*.*

    Hi metalj,

Are you using CCleaner v2.13 ?

You should see Google Earth in your Applications tab.

Maybe something is different about your Google Earth version but you can see the entry for it in the embedded winapp.ini file.

I keep a copy in my CCleaner folder for reference. You can get it here.

    http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...mp;#entry119043

    Good luck,

    :) davey

P.S. I just tested and I am using WinXP SP3 and the Google Earth cache is not being cleaned for me either.

There must be a problem with the winapp.ini entry for Google Earth.

  15. Though it would be nice if the blocks could be bigger, or if there could be more of them. As well as a legend explaining how much space each block represents. I realy love watching the squares change colors, keeps me captivated for hours :D

    Hi Panda,

A hearty welcome to you also. :D

It would be many hours to watch the Vista Defragmenter since it has such low priority.

The nice thing about it, is that it takes care of fragmentation automatically and the user does not have to understand anything about the subject at all. All PC functions ideally are headed in that direction. Very similar to the normal use of the automobile.

I have WinXP and I do testing and using of Defraggler like you. I enjoy watching the blocks.

Some of things that you suggest will probably come about. I will have to pay more attention and look for the

"orange" colors also. You can drag the map down and see much more detail in the blocks. You may already know this but other users will enjoy knowing it.

I just figure the block colors to be obvious. Some free space will lighten the block. It is too bad for those that are "color blind" but possibly changes can be made to accommodate them also.

Now, I don't feel too weird watching the blocks. Others do as well!!! :P

    Best wishes,

    :) davey

  16. Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

When I created this post all the files looked as per your example and none of the files would work. However after reading your post I went back to check and discovered that the files are now working. I don't know what has changed between then and now but my problem seems to have corrected itself. Do you have to do a restart or something before these files can be restored or should they be available immediately?

    Phill

    Hi Phill,

    Welcome to the forums!!! :D

In your case you probably had some program already using the Registry at the time.

Just a note also, that what you are doing is restoring specific entries within the Registry.

It is important that no other program is using the Registry at the time.

It is also important to restore the entries in the reverse order that they were created.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

  17. hi Davey

    thank you for the reply!!

as it was suggested, i ran the window defragment program again..

and I have no luck this time again... still slow and still unhappy.:(

please tell me what you think.

    thanks,

    JAy

    Hi Jay,

If there is a Korean version of Defraggler, you can use it and tell us and the translator how it works for you.

This will help us. However I do not think that it will change anything as regards the speed of your PC.

Tell us about your computer and your Hard Drive or multiple drives. How much used space and free space ?

What programs are you running when your PC slows down?

When you run the Hard Drive "check for Errors" program, what results do you get?

Some of this information may help others to think about other solutions for your problem.

Any snapshots of your Task Manager when this occurs may also help.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

P.S. I will think about this some more but that is all I can suggest for now.

I do think that you do not need to run any "defragmentation" programs for now. Let Vista take care of that for you for right now. It will do it automatically for you. Let us see what happens but the other information is still needed, so that we can assist you further.

  18. Hi citylink unisys,

    Welcome to the forums !!!

I have been on the forums all day today and never say your plight because I thought it was related to the Posted topic.

Copy your post and start a new topic so others will realize that you need help.

Go to the Hardware or Software forum and click on New Topic at the upper right hand of the forum window.

Once you have done that then you can come back to this post and Edit it and delete the info and ask that it be ignored.

    Good luck,

    :) davey
