You may not be infected BUT !!!
Your system can be infected before you reformat and then reinfect afterwards.
Have you also tried a scan with Malwarebytes ? Believe me you can go there download and do a Quick scan in less than 30 min. I did it my first time in 15 minutes. I use it almost every day. It is good to have on your PC and up to date anyway. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Also do an online scan at ESET.

Do not do any more registry cleaning or restoring for now.
Your problem may be that some things like "cookies" or "flash cookies" have been deleted.
I do not use Firefox but I am sure we will get some advice about that. What version of Firefox are you using ?
What are the Firefox options settings that you have on your Applications tab?
This information may be important to give you the correct advice.

VERY IMPORTANT THING You must always reboot immediately after using NTREGOPT.
Any registry changes that you make after running NTREGOPT will be lost when you do reboot. Reboot now if did not do it then. You must do this before restoring your Registry changes.
It sounds like you have certainly done your best to resolve your problems.
When you ran the Registry cleaner did you keep scanning for "issues" until there were no more issues found? Some users do not realize that this is necessary. Try this again and see if there are still issues to be "fixed".
Then Reboot(restart) your PC.
If this does not help then try this next.
The first thing that I would try is to use those CCleaner Registry Issues backups.
They will be by "default" in My Documents. You need to restore them one at a time in the reverse order that you created them. Part of their name is a "time-stamp". This helps identify the order that they were created.
Point at the last one created and right-click on it. Then click on the word Merge at the top of the menu. You will be asked if you want to merge these into the registry. Reply "Yes" and the changes will be restored for those issues. Then do it again for the prior "fix". Do this until you have restored the changes for that "day or time period" then reboot and try again.
Come back and let us know what happens. There will be other things that you may need to do.
1.Tell us what OS, edition and version that you use. I use WinXP Professional SP3. You can find this at the top of CCleaner window.
2.Also tell us the same about Firefox and 3. some information about your PC.

It really depends on what you used to create your "full system backup".
Tell us and maybe someone can tell how to recover those Registry settings.
I did not want to suggest anything that might ruin your fresh Vista install.
If it is not too much then you will have to just recreate all your settings, cookies to save ,Include/Exclude entries etc.. Then be sure to set that option ON and create a copy every now and then. I always keep this option ON. If you ever mess up your settings then you can just put a copy of your backup (cc)leaner.ini file into your CCleaner folder.

Until you learn more and get yourself protected properly, I advise you ,like a good friend, to stick with what you find here on this forum. There are many "bad sites" and "Rogue software" out there right now that it is dangerous to go Searching on the Internet. One click and you can be seriously infected.
The Piriform members have teseted and know what is the best on the market.

If or when they come out with a newer version than I will probably run that one also. I never noticed any slow downs or problems being caused after I used any of their Removal tools. The tool has been improved over time and continues to remove more leftovers. I would just rely on their tool and leave the Registry alone. This latest version is the best one yet.
P.S. By Jamin4u request, I do want to confirm that this tool can be used after Norton has been uninstalled. I uninstalled Norton about a year ago and have successfully used the updated tool at least twice since then with no problems. The tool removed remnants that had not been removed by prior versions.

The Registry changes backups are not very big. You may want to keep them until you are certain that you do not need them. This may take a week of use or longer. I keep mine for 2 weeks at least. The information in them can help you to figure out what may be wrong if you have a problem.
Always be sure to check for more issues until all are resolved. Some new users forget to do this.

JD, that sounds right to me. I dont use the 48 hour option and temp files are deleted regardless of creation/modified/last accessed dates. I think the guide needs to be updated to reflect this.
Yes, it has been that way for at least the last year.
Of course the option even works differently than it leads a user to believe. It would help to get this whole matter clarified.

I used your link this morning when you first Posted it.
I downloaded the Offline install and it worked fine for me. I use WinXP Pro SP3 32-bit.
It also removed the prior version and files like you said. I haven't had the time to check out all areas yet.
I guess because of my "PC Fairy", I was shown the Open Office screen but I was not offered an option to opt-in or opt-out and no Open Office software was installed .
I did disable the Java Quick Starter in Services. I did this because I only have 256 MB RAM. Others may not want to do this. I have no idea how often Java is used on my PC. The same goes for MS Silverlight. I have both installed but no idea how often they are used.

Hi Matt,
As explained in the previous post Vista uses space while you use "Defraggler", sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. It all depends on your system. It varies quite a bit. See some of the other Vista users reports and you will see what I mean. Later Vista will release this space. The defragmenting process has nothing to do with it other than causing Vista to react.

Thanks for the info.
I have just turned off System Restore, gained about 15-20GB and my "Fragmented" files have gone. I have no fragmented files on my HDD
However, defraggler seems to leave a few files dotted around the HDD and not placing it with the bulk of the data.

I would advise turning System Restore back on. It is too valuable to you. System Restore is much better on Vista than XP.
Some of those files may be unmovable.

Well, yesterday it was D-Day for my PC. I did put the Back-Up back on C. What I saw during the process made me smile a little, all my deleted files popped up again. When it was finished I clicked the IE Button, same Problems!
It seems impossible to get it fixed. It could be right, you're not able to turn back from IE8 to IE7 again.
Only other thing I can think of is At Internet Options > Advanced tab Click on Restore advanced options and try IE. If that does not work then At Internet Options > Advanced tab Click on Reset to reset all IE Explorer settings, etc.

Yes, it's HKey_Current_User. For startup, they're dispersed in different area, like HKCU, HKU, HKLM, services, and so on. I thought CCleaner may deal with startup in this manner.

Just a little bug? It also shows the majority of my drive being fragmented, probably due to this.

You hit the "nail on the head". Vista will create new System Restore Points even with Defraggler running.
Just let Vista do it's thing. It will continue to to create these monsters and it will also release the space.
Wish I could explain it in more predictable manner but every user's Vista PC is different. Premium does back you up better so at least you have that comfort. Believe me, Vista does strange things but for your benefit.
If you ever got every file "completely" defragmented on a Vista machine it would be a rare and very temporary event. Any fragment 64 MB or more is no worry, honest !

I checked the Applications tab and there's no entry for Google Chrome.
The list for Internet (GetRight, Netscape Navigator, etc.) doesn't have a Chrome entry, neither does Applications, Utilities, etc.
If there were only an entry with a checkbox I could turn off, everything would be fine.

There are entries in some special files that can be setup. The current entries are slightly different than all the others and this may be because the developers had to make some special things for Google Chrome.
There are some members that may be able to test changing these and seeing if they can help you out.
I don't want to suggest any myself without being able to test them myself.
Hang in there for now and keep checking this thread. Don't wait for an E-mail.

I am not sure if that will make a difference but worth a try. You are the first person that I have heard with such a report.

Over the past year I have been continuously using and intermittently testing Defraggler and in comparison with other "defragmenter" products. I have done much research and testing. I don't consider myself an expert in any related area as regards file systems, disk technology and such. I have done enough "user" testing to come to the following conclusions.
1. Many users are confused by the term "defragmentation" and "optimization".
2. Defragmenting is more productive for the average user than any optimization process.
3. Average users are best served by letting the Operating System handle any optimization. Average users can benefit most by using the Defraggler "Defrag Checked" option under the "File list" tab after using "Analyze". This is the fastest option for Defraggler defragmenting. All fragmented files can be selected with one click at the box provided next to the Filename header.
4. Defraggler's File list defragmentation is a very fast defragmenter and it also has some optimization in it's algorithm.
5. Defraggler's "Drive defrag" options should be considered more as "optimization" processes than defragmenting although defragmenting is part of the process unless fragmentation is allowed to speed up the "optimization" process.
6. Specialist users such as "gamers", audiophiles, and such can benefit most often by using "Defrag Folder" and "Defrag File" options.
7. More "advanced" users layout their data in special partitions and folders and benefit most often by using "Defrag Folder" and "Defrag File" options.
8. Complete disk optimization is needed very infrequently but is beneficial when it has not been done in a long time.
You have completed the "optimization" process by letting Defraggler defragment the whole drive. This will always be a slow process and is not needed again for quite awhile.
Would you please consider using the "File list" defragmenting in Defraggler and fill us in? By "highlighting" individual filenames you can see where these files are on the drive before and after defragmenting.
Your feed back is important and we would appreciate it.

What some of the Firefox users may also need to know is this. In CCleaner Cleaner > Applications tab What are your settings for cleaning Firefox?
Did you set your "cookies to save" at Options > Cookies. You may have to sign in or go to those websites again to get those "cookies" back on your computer.
See this link also about "flash cookies". I would advise turning off the option at Cleaner > Applications tab > Multimedia > Adobe Flash Player also until you learn and understand these "flash cookies". This may be causing most of your problems.
