  1. Re. Windows Security icon in taskbar...

Open Windows Security from the taskbar icon, click on Virus and threat protection, it should then show you who is in charge of AV protection on your machine.

It is normal to have the Win Security/Defender icon with a green tick even if someone else is in charge.

    Mine is like that.

I am mad as hell that for the second time C Cleaner has obliterated my Firefox history, despite the fact that I've check off in setting not to.  I just lost a critical page that I can't recover.

What the hell is going on?

I reported this issue once before, but to my knowledge got no response.

I don't want to change products, but if I can't depend on this one to not erase my history, I'll have to .

Does anyone have any explanation for this and what to do about it?

  3. I just ran the 3.14 installer as it shows in my link to the Bleepingcomputer article above .

Not a new install, it just overwrote the previous install as it usually does.

I hardly ever update from within the program itself and always run the installer over the top instead.

VideoLan has released VLC Media Player 3.0.14 to fix an issue affecting Window users and causing the software's auto-updater not to launch the new version's installer automatically.

"VLC users on Windows might encounter issues when trying to auto update VLC from version 3.0.12 and 3.0.13," VideoLan explained. "We are publishing version 3.0.14 to address this problem for future updates."

If you are using a device with Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system and Windows Defender as the default security solution, you may be impacted by a bug that is filling the hard drive with files.

Windows Defender puts thousands of files in the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Store if a device is affected by the issue. More than 10,800 items were placed in the folder on a test system running Windows 10 version 20H2. Other users reported over 950,000 files over the course of a 24 hour period and 30 Gigabytes of storage occupied by the files. Most files are small in size, between 1 and 2 Kilobytes.

The OS is a 64-bit version of Windows 10, and due to a bug in the Option function of CClener, installation of a non-existent Ver is being announced. I am using VLC Media Player 3.0.12 (current Ver), and I will inform you about the update of 3.0.13, and it is installed without permission. Moreover, the 32-bit version and 3.0.12 will be installed. Installation is the default location 😄 Program ...
