  1. I think it's just a PR thing, it's taking so much longer than scheduled that they thought it would be better if they made it look like a bigger update by raising the number. I believe June was the original target. I'm not complaining, though, I'd much rather they make sure they get it right before release, rather than release a flawed version (like 1.0.5). 1.5 is supposed to correct a lot of the things users have complained about, the ability to update instead of installing complete new versions will be enough by itself to make a big difference. I'm really looking forward to it.
  2. Note that EasyCleaner doesn't remove anything from the registry automatically, it shows you what it's found, you can highlight and delete one at a time or "Delete All". I suggest you look at that list carefully before you click "Delete All">
  3. I don't know about that first problem, but recently used programs not appearing in the start menu is what happens when you run CCleaner with "User Assist History" checked in the Advanced settings. It's not a bug, that's what it's supposed to do.
  4. Some registry entries will be re-created by the programs that generated them. They're not really a problem, don't worry about them. If all of the issues keep coming back, then something is wrong. Are you clicking "Fix Selected Issues" after you "Scan for Issues"?
  5. Uninstall, then run CCleaner's Issues scan, I believe that will take care of those registry entries.
  6. That quote is from the section of the release notes headed "Known Issues", which appears to be intended for those who have problems after following the standard installation instructions (though they failed to make that very clear). In an earlier section, it says to just download and run the installer, period. Smart users do uninstall the old version before running the installer, though, because it means less chance of problems. Only the truly paranoid install in a new directory every time, it forces you to re-install most plugins as well, and it usually isn't necessary. <edit> I should add, if you have both the old version and the new version in your Add or Remove Programs list, the old version is generally just a leftover entry. You can see what version you're using by clicking Help > About Mozilla Firefox. When your sure that it's just a leftover entry, you can remove it with CCleaner. Tools > Uninstall, highlight the entry, click "Delete Entry".
  7. Making things abundantly clear to the totally confused has become a reflex for me. I spend a lot of time on the Mozillazine forum, and many users there are, to put it gently, less than astute.
  8. Very true. I have also done some registry cleaning with HDCleaner, it finds a lot more. But it only gives you a list of possibly invalid entries, you have to figure out which ones are safe to remove. I had a lot of garbage produced by an attempt to recover files from a borked copy of WinXP, that other cleaners didn't find, and I was able to remove over a hundred entries. But there were over a hundred more I don't want to touch, because I don't know enough about them. That list isn't growing, though, regular cleaning with CCleaner and EasyCleaner takes care of the new stuff.
  9. Just download and install, no need to delete the previous version. Custom Folders are whatever folders you add in Options > Custom Folders.
  10. Much as I love CCleaner, it doesn't have (or claim to have) a very powerful registry cleaner. It is a very safe registry cleaner, which you can run routinely without qualms. If I've been uninstalling programs, though, I run another registry cleaner (EasyCleaner) after CCleaner. I think between the two they're doing a pretty thorough job.
  11. It will uninstall a program only if you highlight that program and click the Run Uninstaller button.
  12. If you want recently used programs to appear in the start menu, uncheck "User Assist History" before you run CCleaner again. Windows will create a new list of recently used programs, but it will dissapear if you run CCleaner with that option enabled.
  13. Try EasyCleaner: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html But don't do the Duplicates scan, it can create big problems.
  14. I don't think the amount of screen space CCleaner takes up is really an issue. Since you really should close all other apps before running any cleaner, plus it takes little time to run, it might as well take up the whole screen.
  15. Tools > Options > Privacy > Saved Form Information is where you enable/disable the Firefox autofill feature. But I can understand why some might want to install this. I don't, but I'm not about to criticize those who do.
  16. Yeah, that's not much at all. Have you enabled the advanced options?
  17. From what I hear, they didn't plan any more updates ahead of the 1.1 release, but several security issues came up. The frame injection spoofing regression got the most press, but the release notes only rank its severity as "moderate". There are two "critical" and four "high" severity vulnerabilities fixed in this release. So this actually fixes more holes than the last one, which involved three "critical" fixes.
  18. At last! The suspense was killing me. And there's nothing wrong with the exit button. The exit button is a friend of mine, I won't have you bad-mouthing the exit button!

    issues

I always fix them all, and make back-ups. But I've never needed to restore any of them. I delete them after a month.
  20. I agree, I like CCleaner small and efficient, the way it is now. It should be used as a model of how to write user-friendly programs.
  21. Sometimes, when your Firefox installation is badly corrupted, you need to delete the Mozilla Firefox installation folder in C:\Program Files, and/or delete the entire Profile folder. But don't worry about that unless you are having problems after a normal "clean install".
  22. I almost forgot, to help you download all this stuff, there's Free Download Manager: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ And, if you use Firefox, you need the FlashGot extension to integrate it with the browser: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?s...798&hl=flashgot
  23. Actually, I was thinking about trying PageDefrag instead, but now you guys have got me worried. I don't understand how compacting the registry could cause these problems, but there are many things I don't understand...
  24. If you like to see the whole list, you can you can change this in Options > Advanced. Not that there's any real point ...
  25. I've been using NTREGOPT often, I haven't seen any problems. I don't claim to be an expert, though.
