  1. SaiyaMel, I guess we should be talking about malware as that is the thing that is pervasive on the Internet right now and not quibble whether it is spyware or virus because both are prevalent now.
  2. I really like Malwarebites MBAM and I have a paid subscription for $32.00CAD: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php I tried a-squared ages ago but it had too many false positives and I do not use Spybot S&D anymore as it only found tracking cookies and its scan takes unbearably too log to run. I do use Microsoft's Windows Defender manually updated daily because of its monitoring of the HOSTS file and other key operating system files but I wish that its update function would work more reliably. I also like WinPatrol and I purchased its PLUS update for $29.95US: http://www.winpatrol.com I like the comfort of its mascot Scotty's woof alerting me when things are changed on my systems. [political rant] Unfortunately, being on the Internet today has become such a target for the criminal element for their own nefarious purposes. It is all in the name of gathering the almighty $$$ as it is easy to steal as there is a very long time for them to be brought to justice or even to be caught. [/political rant]
  3. http://windowsteamblog.com:80/blogs/window...e-we-stand.aspx I won't help as I don't have the hardware to run it.
  4. There are quite few complaints on avast! and McAfee forums about those infections and they are slowly starting to detect and remove them plus I notice avast! preventing access to their download sites.

  6. By the way hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files have been recently updated. I'm finally getting around to Ripping my old CDs to my recently rebuilt XP Pro system. The Best of the Moody Blues, Magic Bus and Who's Next The Who, The best of Eric Clapton and The Seeger Sessions Bruce Springsteen
  7. This is a symptom of the infamous antivirus2009 gang that are currently rampant on the Internet See Newest Rogue Threats: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=30 Malwarebytes MBAM is on top of them.
  8. I like AM-DeadLink to set the icons ( FavIcons ): http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm The FavIcons come from the site in the Favorites and I prefer them to the boring IE icon.
  9. I like these cartoons: http://com2.runboard.com/bbob3160theforum.f1.t2 Especially: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob...eForum/Gas4.jpg
  10. That looks like a scene down on Lake Ontario near the Scarborough Bluffs where I used to walk a lot. http://www.toronto.ca/waterfront/images/blufbeac.jpg http://www.toronto.ca/waterfront/images/eastpoint_park3.jpg

  12. In CCleaner go to Options then Advanced then insure that "Close program after cleaning" is not checked By the way, SP3 has been out for 6 months and provides several security enhancements for Windows and I run it on my XP Home and Pro systems without problems.
  13. I have a WinPatrol golf shirt and a McAfee SiteAdvisor t-shirt so a Pirform t-shirt would be great. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get Y'All to hold a conference here.
  14. http://www.microsoft.com:80/downloads/deta...;displaylang=en Its working quite well on the old PIII though
  15. I like SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
  16. I just had my first morning coffee and posting with my recovered XP Pro system and I would like to give an honorable mention to Norton ( Symantec) even after running their un-install application
  17. I think that a new tab is a great idea plus opening a Help dialog when F1 (Help) key is depressed would help as well.
  18. The new modem arrived yesterday and it is working great. I am now installing the 4 Recovery CDs on the XP Pro system. It is a miserable day here today with snow and then a nice icing of freezing rain is forecast. What a wonderful day to spend indoors toasty warm and lots of things to do and places to go on the Internet gathering my favourite goodies. From what I remember I will have to remove Norton first then SP3 next.
  19. Welcome to Defraggler Discussion. Have a look at PageDefrag as pagefile.sys is a Windows system file and needs a special application to defrag it: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb897426.aspx You only need to run it once unless you change the system RAM.
  20. Plus it is easy to use Ctrl to add individual items and Shift to add a range then click the -> or <- buttons.
  21. I have gone through many Microsoft inflicted upgrades and now my poor antiquated hardware is not capable of running Vista so when I get left over money after paying for rent and food I will purchase a new Vista or whatever is the next best thing from Microsoft as I do not want an Apple. I just want to use the Internet and not be a slave to it and not be another victim of Moore's Law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law I have a 6 year old TV that has great reception and I don't need a HD Wide Screen LCD TV to see the Discovery channel in all its glory for about $500.00 Mostly cloudy and -5C here.
  22. Warning Bogus system cleaner: codeclean.co.kr
  23. I use IE from the Quick Launch Toobar: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/s...uicklaunch.mspx
