Moderators mta Posted November 8, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 8, 2012 i've only been a member for a couple of months and have seen as many 'security breaches' (i believe they were). just wondering if this is normal for this forum - or forums in general. and no!, there is no connection between those two points. Moderators hazelnut Posted November 8, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 8, 2012 What happened last week was the first and only security breech of this forum that I can remember since I became a member here years ago. The other times when the forum has been unavailable have almost always been either a server breakdown or issues relating to the Invision Power Forum software that this forum uses. In general security at the forum is very, very tight. Moderators Andavari Posted November 8, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 8, 2012 Sometime before 2006 (don't remember the exact year) it was hacked, and there was an infected/malware setup.exe file embedded into it to automatically download. That's the only other time I'm aware of.
Moderators mta Posted November 9, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 9, 2012 anybody else having this intermittent problem - i'll be surfing the forum fine (using FF 16) then start getting 'no input file specified' when clicking on links, if i wait a while, it all comes good, usually only for a while then it happens again. when the 'no imput file' happens the piriforn forum home page is 'text' based, no graphics. just wondering if it was lucky me or if the forum still has lingering problems ? Moderators Andavari Posted November 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 I think they're probably still working on it. I had that "no input file specified" all day just the other day and gave up.
Moderators mta Posted November 10, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 thanks for the heads-up Andavari, at least it's nothing i can control/change at my end... TheWebAtom
I'm still getting 'no input file found' when connecting through 3G, and a semi-working forum when using a wifi connection. Something is definitely still wonky. I'm Shane.
Moderators mta Posted November 10, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 further research. tried IE and Opera, same results, even fired up the test PC and same thing there too. IE seems to have the best luck, although the 'no input file specified' is replaced with the 404 Page Not Found error. (i'm doing this now in IE when FF at the same time doesn't work - go figure) Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. Moderators hazelnut Posted November 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 It'll be DNS issues with the Piriform servers I think. Moderators mta Posted November 10, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 how so Hazel? do you mean in general with the access to the forum - or the FF vs IE difference I'm experiencing?. for example, on this test PC, using IE, this is the longest in the last couple of days I've managed to stay connected without it going all spacky on me. Moderators hazelnut Posted November 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 Not sure MTA I just know they said that DNS issues were the last things that had to be fixed. I cleared out all Piriform cookies in my browsers (and ccleaner) and started over again. It helped a bit, but obviously there still seem to be a few issues. Slightly OT, I saw this earlier today on a site. Moderators mta Posted November 10, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 Thanks Hazel - LOVE IT !!! (i'm still smiling) the Australian one should simply be CRIKEY MATE. Moderators Andavari Posted November 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2012 (i'm doing this now in IE when FF at the same time doesn't work - go figure) From what I remember experiencing in the past FF gives up sooner than IE on pages difficult to load. Moderators mta Posted November 11, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 11, 2012 i give up. at least on my PC, IE has almost 100% success rate compared to FF almost 100% fail rate in trying to connect to this forum. that suggests to me that it may be something particular to my setup. so with great regret and reluctance i'll stick to IE to access the forum (hopefully only as a short-term measure) Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. Winapp2.ini
I had issues connecting earlier today across all browers, suggesting it was a DNS issue I use OpenDNS if it matters winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Andavari Posted November 11, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 11, 2012 I use OpenDNS if it matters I use Comodo's Secure DNS, and had issues getting on here yesterday. More than likely there's still some tinkering needed to fix access issues.
Super Fast
MTA, I can access it via FF or IE with 0 problems on this end. Have you tried creating a new user profile on Windows, then letting FF create a new profile to ensure the old is not corrupted somehow? Or going into FF network settings & check that it is set to No Proxy? Sorry to hear of your problems connecting!
Moderators hazelnut Posted November 18, 2012 Moderators Share Posted November 18, 2012 It was a DNS issue which was sorted by Piriform. No problems for anyone now. TheWebAtom
Untrue. I'm having issues with the topic pages now. The CSS files aren't loading, citing an "Unable to decode data array" error. I'm Shane.

Moderators mta Posted November 19, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted November 19, 2012 It was a DNS issue which was sorted by Piriform. No problems for anyone now. agreed - for me anyways. @TheWebAtom - seems not for everyone though @SuperFast - yeah, i went crazy and had a massive hissy-fit and did everything i could think of. new profile, reinstalled FF, updated all plugins and extensions, even blew away my Speed Dial extension thinking that was the cause. Nothing helped - nor would it have in hind sight if it was DNS based. but on a positive note, FF, IE and Opera all 100% Piriform happy !!!
