Thanks for the interest.

I have surfed the best waves here. Mostly in Playa Hermosa (next to Jaco) and up in Tamarindo.

Hang in there Andavari. Nice to meet you.

Pleased to meet you Richard Blank and welcome to the forum. :)

Would really like to visit your country one day! B)

This treasure trove of tropical flora and fauna is exemplified by the more than 9,000 different kinds of flowering plants, including 1,200 orchids.

Approximately 850 species of birds have been identified here, which are more than are found in the United States and Canada combined. This country is also home for 205 species of mammals, 376 species of reptiles and amphibians and about 10 percent of the world's butterfly species. Although Costa Rica covers only .03% of the surface of the Earth, about 6% of the planet's plant and animal species can be found here.

It's literally freezing here in cold Burlington, IA, USA.

There was some footage on the news here last night showing the ice storms hitting certain areas of America, I've got no right to complain it's cold after seeing that

Ironically, I don't have school today December 13 - Thursday. The impending storm shut down basically every school system here. Its 9:32 AM...and no snow ... I'm basically in the middle of the state.

Actually Richard, I love skiing! I plan on going to some bigger mountains this year over my February break -- Jay Peak Resort is what I'm aiming for. But, a beach does sound nice right now :D:P!!!

I graduated back in 1991.But I can still remember listening to KYW 1060 in Philadelphia. My school's snow number was 301. The waiting while they counted the numbers was nail biting, but when you heard that your school was closed for the day,it was like hitting the lottery!

Just try to stay safe on the icy roads.

My girlfriend is a TICA and last year she saw snow for the first time when we were in Northern Arizona., She forced me to pull over on the highway so she could run around in a field and try to catch snow flakes.

Hit those slopes and keep me posted.

I spent 7 glorious months in Costa Rica in a small fishing village called Playa Del Coco that is on the north west coast about an hour south of the Nicaragua border.

I had the pleasure of ushering in the new millennium partying the night away sipping the local rum that was $2.00 a bottle and mixing it with Sprite that was $6.00 a bottle ;)

The next day myself complete with a hangover and a couple of friends went for a tour around Arenal and we met a fellow that was German who had a Costa Rican wife that owned a small hotel where we stayed for a night.

I really liked Tamarindo but it was too expensive for me to stay there but it was only a bit over an hour drive there.

There was a good sea food restaurant in Playa Hermosa that I ate at every once in a while.

I met a young lady from Heredia and we toured around a bit and I really liked the hot springs and mud baths after a horseback ride through a bit of the rain forest up past the village of Curubunde in Rincon De La Vieja.

Anywhere warm is preferable to ice and snow. However I do think my loathing of winter is age acquired because I used to love it as a child.

I'll agree with you on that one. I've noticed myself not enjoying the cold winter weather as much anymore (yes it does get cold here every now and then...lol) and even my parents have said they don't miss the snow and ice and blustery winds from when we lived on Long Island. I'll admit, snow is pretty to look at and I do miss snowball fights and sledding, but I think going to the beach in December is much more enjoyable. lol

There are always direct flights. The most expensive part is the travel to get here.Once in Costa Rica, you can live like a rock star.

Imagine 50 cent beers and $5 a pound lobsters. Some people may say that it could get old, I don't think so.

I have a cousin who goes to Costa every now and then for surf trips with his friends. He says the same thing...that everything is cheap and you can definitely live on little pocket money. He's invited me to go a couple times but I never have the money for the plane ticket, let alone a hotel room and food. I'll get to surf there eventually. B)

If you can make it here, it will be worth it.

I still cannot believe that the average Gringo spends 3 times the amount of money necessary to enjoy yourself. They go to the tourist spots, do not really enjoy the true beauty of the country and pay prices that can be more expensive than Miami in some places.

I would rather have my own cabana on the beach, a chill hammock, cold drink and a private view of the ocean. Places like that exist, you just have to know where to look or who to ask.
