  1. I believe (think) that it is related to CCleaner (or some other app) checking for updates.

    Do you have automatic updates, or notification of updates turned on?

    I think that if you have them turned on then when an app checks for an update the Windows Restart Manager fires up (10000) to check if any update that does get installed needs a Windows Restart, if not, or if there is no update, then Restart Manager closes again (10001).

    As I say that's my take on  how Restart Manager works, although I suspect  that it may not be that  simple - if anyone else knows any more about it please chime in.

  2. You shouldn't (can't fully) uninstall Edge anymore, - as Microsoft say it's now an integral part of the operating system.

    Many/most of the articles you will see about uninstalling Edge were written:

    1. When both Internet Explorer and Edge were automatically installed with Windows.
    2. When it was 'Old' Edge and not the newer Edge Chromium.

    Back then uninstalling the Old Edge would still leave IE as a backup for the system and other apps to use.
    And that still happened for a while after Edge Chromium first came out, IE was still there if you removed Edge Chromium.
    But IE is no longer installed with Windows, and whilst you can uninstall parts of Edge Chromium (using PowerShell as Andavari says) doing that can/will cause problems with your Operating System and with other apps.

    Just install the browser of your choice and make it the default browser - then simply ignore Edge.
    (Unless you need to use it because something goes wrong with your preferred browser).

  3. I wouldn't worry about it.

    The subscription cost wouldn't be increased for a simple matter such as this, people do get new computers now and again and the system recognises that. As long as a licence doesn't contine in use on multiple computers then it's not a problem.

    If it's a university machine they will (should) clear and reset it before giving it to anyone else and so CCleaner will no longer be on it.

  4. When something gets skipped it's (almost always) because that application is still open or still running in the background.

    (If CCleaner isn't asking you if you want to close it then you've clicked on 'don't show this again' at some time in the past).

    Rebooting the computer closes the running app, and so then CCleaner can clean it.

    Windows Photos/Microsoft Photos will launch itself in the background at times to do searches or 'photo enhancement', which can cause problems, although it should stop when you start using the computer again it doesnt always stop straight away.

  5. As you say you are not a techie I'm asuming that CCleaner has been installed at the 'standard' location and that you didn't do a custom install to install it on another drive or a different directory.

    To fix the shortcut:

    Right-click on the desktop shortcut icon.
    In the menu that pops up click on 'Properties'. (it should be at the very bottom of the popup).
    A window will open like this one, select the 'Shortcut' tab:

    Where it says 'Target' you want to say either "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe" like that one above does,
    or "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe"
    (It doesn't matter which one it says unless you only have a 32-bit computer, in which case it should be the second one).

    If it doesn't say either of those make a note of what it does say, then change it, and click on 'Apply'.
    If it says that you need Administrator permissions then click on 'Continue'.
    You can now close that window.

    That should have fixed your desktop shortcut.
    If it hasn't then come back, there are another couple of ways to do it.

     

  6. Works fine on images here, what search options did you have set?

    I ususally search for duplicate images on Size and Content, so that it finds duplicate images even if the name has been changed.

    Be aware that even a slight change to an image, such as red-eye reduction, will make it no longer an exact duplicate.

    Here's a simple setup and results - searching just the 'Pictures' folder and sub-folders for all filetypes, you can see it found a couple where the name had been changed..

  7. OK, after runing CCleaner in debug mode and looking at the log produced I think I can see what's happening.

    It isn't removing that "SiteSecurityServiceState.txt" that's causing it at all.

    As well as deleting that particular file, cleaning the 'Site Preferences' appears to be resetting  the javascript file "prefs.js".

    I can't think of any way to prevent that happening other than unticking 'Site Preferences' for Firefox.

  8. Some interesting results from my testing.

    I set the zoom to 150%, closed Firefox and then ran an analyze in CCleaner of just the Firefox Site Preferences.

    The only file it listed under 'Site Preferences' for Firefox was "SiteSecurityServiceState.txt" - which is a 0kb file and on opening it it's empty (as you would expect with 0kb).

    BUT clearing it with CCleaner did reset the zoom to 100%.

    To double check I reset the zoom to 150%, closed Firefox, and manually deleted that file without using CCleaner.
    Reopened Firefox and this time the zoom had remained at 150%.

    Repeating and watching just what CCleaner is removing from that directory when it cleans 'Site Preferences' it is only removing that one file.

    Very strange that deleting the file manually gives a different result than having CCleaner remove it?

    I'll think of some more testing, but for now my best suggestion is to untick Firefox 'Site Preferences' if you want to keep the zoom level.

  10. We need more information please.

    What Windows version?
    What browser?
    What CCleaner version?
    Are you using Custom Clean or Health Check?

    Why do you think that cookies are being removed even though excluded, is it something in particular that happens?

    Often when people think a cookie being removed is causing something to happen/not happen it's actually something else and not a cookie at all.
    eg. Clearing a browsers 'Session' will log you out of all websites, some think that's a cookie problem but it's nothing to do with cookies at all.

     

  11. Thanks for the report.

    It is reading the version numbers in a slightly different way, and so updating them when it isn't needed.

    Although I'm not sure about PotPlayer, that does look to have read the current version number at all.

    This behaviour has been noticed and has been flagged up to be fixed.

  12. If you look at the version numbers you can see that they are in fact the same but the number is being parsed (read) slightly differently.

    It can happen sometimes when an app internally stores the version number slightly differently to the 'published' version number.

    It's been reported for attention which usually happens fairly quickly, just ignore it for now.

  13. Try updating your Antivirus.

    There was a new CCleaner version released on Wednesday and sometimes Antivirus apps can take a few days to recognise the new CCleaner version.

  14. As said that's most probably the 'Smart Cleaning' option that is cleaning up temporary files after you have finished playing.

    The quickest way to stop that happening is to turn Smart Cleaning off.

    (Or you could set it to let more junk accumulate before Cleaning, or go more advanced and make the Warcraft files 'excludes').
