Only 30 minutes left and it's Christmas in the Philippines.
It's finally Christmas here!
Cool, I'm moving there, it'll be over sooner then
-
i use eraser for shell exstention and wipe free space. No offence to ccleaner. it's most likely the best junk cleaner in the world. But it's wfs is not in the same league as erasers.
Which is almost exactly word for word what I was gonna say
(oh and also another user of version 5.7 only, I gave up trying post 5.8 releases due to bugs, including one OS killer!)
-
Merry Christmas to all especially JDPower, you old grump...
.
Hmmm, thanks (he says whilst mumbling under his breath something about "bloody xmas")

I wonder if it's some buggy FF addon causing it, and one way to find out if they keep reappearing is to disable all addons/themes then enable them one by one to see if it's caused by a particular addon/theme.
You could all post your extensions here and see if there's an extension or two common between all three of you

Files are files, doesn't matter where they were purchased from. I hope you are not recovering them to the same disk/partition you are scanning though or you could be overwriting the same files you want to recover.
-
Interesting, I've never seen any of these files, what Windows/FF versions?
-
It shouldn't be unrecognisable, there were no major changes between 2.25 and 2.26. Did you download the new version from a trusted site, what exactly is different, can you upload a screenshot?

Boy, sure hope so...
Just so my wife (an IT division head for the NSA) doesn't find all that porn...
If your not looking at anything illegal you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If your wife can't handle the fact that blokes look at porn get a new wife

Its impossible for to say whether CCleaner cleans the files you are talking about if you don't tell us what/where the files are that you mean. The obvious test would be to run CCleaner and see if the files are still there

I'm pretty much lost for words
Um yeah, what he said^

after deleting the thread,,,empty system restore..
tese threats always make a copy in system restore.
Huh, there is no threat, its just an entry for an uninstalled program showing up in CCleaner
. Certainly don't wanna be removing restore points when messing with reg entries.
-
Hi.Thanks. Where do I find this HKCU using regedit? Please teach me more ...
I thought I found SpyBot in HKEY Local Machine and deleted it, but after a restart I still see SpyBot listed in the same place in cCleaner Utilities under Applications
Don't just go deleting stuff in the registry when you're not certain what you're doing, can cause far worse problems than just Spybot still showing in CCleaner. Only delete the specific key Nergal mentioned.

It has been suggested before and, to me at least, is a common sense addition (instead of the current cumbersome method) but has yet to be added
-
I would guess unticking the Adobe Flash player box under CCleaners applications tab
-
I understand and it's a good idea but so much easier, and something that CCleaner has been absolutely crying out for, is a right click entry to "Add this entry to exclusions list" in the cleaner and issues section
-
i usually don't have enough files for it to make a significant difference in how long it takes
But it makes a significant difference on the amount of wear on your disk, about 35 time more significant

Great video! One thing though, a person in their car stops, gets out, looks at robots, then runs away. Wouldn't the car be faster? Like, to get out of that city? I guess the creator figured it made the clip seem more 'Hollywood' with that action. Kinda does.
Yeah, that stood out like a sore thumb to me too. But then I'm always picking faults like that in films, people hate watching films with me, the number of times I've been sternly told "JUST WATCH IT!"
-
An amateur short film apparently (allegedly?) made for $1000, so good Hollywood came calling:
"Since uploading the clip Alvarez has received multi-million dollar contract offers from the likes of DreamWorks, Fox, Warner Bros and the Weinstein Company. Eventually, he opted for Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi's production company for a reported $30m (?18.6m)."

Bah bloody humbug

Thanks TeeJay

Ok, thanks for answering, it did clear some things for me. But I still think it's not working properly, as Recuva finds all the bits of files that were there before I've runned CCleaner's wiper, even though none of them are recoverable.
Yes it can still find some filenames but as you say the actual files are unrecoverable so there is no issue with someone potentially recovering them.

But now, suddenly, there're 40GB of free space to be wiped, even though I couldn't have deleted such huge amount of data in this period. Can't say that this isn't weird!
It doesn't matter how much you've deleted, it wipes ALL free space on the disk. If you have 40Gb of free space it will overwrite 40Gb free space regardless of how much you've deleted since last run, that has no bearing on the operation.
And I would recommend not running the free space wipe every day (unless you have reason to be ultra paranoid about stuff you're deleting every day), as I said it will massively slow the operation of CCleaner and provide unnecessary wear on your disk)
-
I think your getting confused over the free space thing, it is not cleaning up junk files as such. When you delete a file it is not physically removed from the disk, windows just allocates that area as free, then in time other files will be written over the deleted file. Before they are overwritten by other files they can be recovered by software like Recuva, some consider this a security risk (ie, if someone got hold of their computer they may be able recover any sensitive files you thought were deleted). The purpose of the wipe free space option is to overwrite the free space with random data so that all those files are no longer recoverable. This is something you would only ever need to do occasionally, certainly not every time you run CCleaner as it will make CCleaner take a very long time and also increase wear on your hard drive.
As I mentioned the purpose of Recuva is to restore any files that you may have deleted accidentally, what Recuva finds are not junk files, just a list of deleted files you could restore if you wanted.

First time I've seen this mentioned but as far as a fix is concerned, initial thoughts would be to untick the box, click apply, then retick and click apply again. Might 'remind' it to do what it's supposed to![;)](//content.invisioncic.com/d154966/emoticons/default_wink.png)
