  1. Speccy doesn't always give out the correct information especially for newish hardware so no it's not always right.

Therefore I would have to say information provided on the manufacturing website is the one you should trust.

  2. Trend Micro's RootkitBuster doesn't support System Service Despatch Table checking which in my opinion is an essential requirement for rootkit detection.

I can't say I've had any false positive results with the registry scan, however I'm less than impressed with this program.

If you want to try other rootkit detects then I would recommend: Radix Antirootkit, Kernel Detective, Rootkit Unhooker, Rootrepeal and IceSword (run from a clean boot).

  3. You usually have better success recovering files from a hard drive if they have only been deleted a few days ago.

2 to 3 months is really pushing your changes because disk read / write activity would have certainly destroyed your data.

Deep scan while useful in some situations doesn't always work because it can detect fragments that look like files but turns out to be total gibberish.

  4. The Windows defrag tool and Piriform Defraggler both use the same defragging API so to answer your question YES it should work.

I'm not sure why you want to defrag a TV SAT hard drive it's unlikely to contain files with many fragments or cause playback problems.

  5. Try forcing Windows to reassign *.AVI files by doing Start, Run, (exactly as shown below)

    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe" C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL .avi

Tick "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", click "Browse" and select the location of WMP which should be "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
