  1. Zemana isn't perfect but it's better than nothing if you want to add a layer of detection / protection to your operating system.

My only disappointment so far is it cannot detect malware threats if they load before Zemana, a machine could still be infected with a key logger and you wouldn't even know about it.

I also disagree with forcing users to pay yearly "protection" I would have preferred a one-off purchase or donation instead.

  2. 9megs of bloated HIPS with a required yearly subscription of 15 quid otherwise "you're not protected against new viruses, spyware any other security threats".

As for Zemana it does works sometimes but I found the detection rather patchy and unreliable when tested against some of my tools.

  3. A hard drive lacking in contiguous free space (not to be confused with space free) won't defrag because there's nowhere to move files and keep them contiguous.

If you still need to defrag C drive you should move all nonessential files to D drive, defrag free space on C drive and then defrag C drive.

  4. This table should help - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units

NVIDIA have many different cards but for AGP the best ones would be series 6 or series 7 (8 and 9 are PCI-E only).

When choosing a model number higher the 2nd digit the better the card's spec i.e. 6800 vs 6200.

The 6200 is a good graphics card (I'm using one) but it's not really suitable for high performance games, of course a lot would depend on which games you want to play.

If money wasn't an issue I would recommend the 6800 or a series 7 card with at least 256MB of RAM (for texture storage).

  5. Why does this continue to pop up

Because CCleaner's unused file type detection is badly broken and shouldn't be trusted.

I've already mentioned it, complained about it, posted a video demonstrating this bug but still no response from the coders.

The simple solution is to either use an earlier version or CCleaner or untick unknown file type detection until a fix has been issued.

  6. I don't know much about BT routers but I would imagine it has some layer of encryption or security to prevent hacking (unless someone at BT is doing the hacking).

As for outside connections including ICMP it's not possible to hack a computer with a NAT connection because the router doesn't know which port or packet goes to which internal IP address.

The only thing a computer hacker could do is Denial of Service attack on your IP address but it's not worth the time an effort knocking off one computer in a billion.

If anything the biggest threat to computer security is malware running on the host computer which was installed by, using cracked software, reading infected emails or accessing boobytrapped websites.

  7. Although you cannot 100% stealth your IP address it's not possible for someone outside to make connections to your computer (unless you have port forwarding rules).

  8. When you say CPU goes crazy do you mean it's getting hot and fan is whirring or your laptop sluggish??

Try running Process Explorer if you have a naughty application this will show you the CPU load and core status.

Which version of Windows are you running?? i.e. Windows 7 64bit

  9. I'm not sure if I understand the question.

If you hit defrag then it will defrag all files on your drive except for locked or protected files.

If you're referring to exclusion of file types then yes it's possible to define an ignore list.

  10. If a directory appears empty and it cannot be removed "access denied" this could mean:

    - hidden files still present, use dir /a-d or atttrib

    - rootkit stealthing files making the folder appear empty

    - an application has a handle to the folder

    - folder contains non-standard names or characters
