  1. Possibly hardware differences, since there are XP systems built after mine that play HD video fine, yet mine won't.
  2. This topic is closed since you already have a topic only a few minutes before this one with the same information. Please do not duplicate topics.
  3. I was never able to use Zorin, all it would do on my system was crash when attempting to load itself. I've given up on it, although it did sound promising.
  4. I've tried it a couple of times before when it was mentioned on here, I remember it not being able to run, and then in a later version just crashing. The best non-Microsoft OS experience I've had was with the Linux distro called Slax, it ran super smooth but like most Linux distros I had no sound.
  5. That's the page I tried to get it from also from login123's screenshot. I had thought they were going to keep issuing it for XP until 2018, I think I read that somewhere.
  6. It isn't Local Storage it's Local Settings. Edit: Actually Local Extension Settings.
  7. Microsoft has ended support of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool ("MRT") for Windows XP systems. The final version for XP was August 2016.
  8. Even outside of Windows using various boot CDs it's inaccessible.
  9. Not so simple because the settings are stored in a numbered .LOG file which changes everytime a Chrome/Chromium browser is started and closed, and if people install multiple extensions it wouldn't help. In my case when using Adblock for Chrome it out of nowhere stopped keeping settings (this was in early 2015) meaning I couldn't logically use it since I have allot of custom filters. Also when I tried Adblock Plus for Chrome it also wouldn't save settings, so that "large sweeping folder" exclusion in my opinion is the best approach, and also it makes zero sense to clean that folder since it only contains settings for extensions (no different than registry settings for installed programs in my opinion). From my findings I think one of the reasons cleaning software in general (not just CCleaner in this case) is wiping out the settings because a folder with settings inside of it will contain a numbered .LOG file which is the actual settings that need to be kept and left alone - but most cleaning programs like to delete logs by default. Although I think a browser that saves settings into a .LOG file is ridiculous. Folder contents example (Web of Trust): ...\000003.log ...\CURRENT ...\LOCK ...\LOG ...\LOG.old ...\MANIFEST-000001 Folder contents example (Adblock Plus for Chrome): This one also stores settings in the .LDB files: ...\000005.ldb ...\001533.ldb ...\001535.ldb ...\001537.ldb ...\001539.log ...\001540.ldb ...\CURRENT ...\LOCK ...\LOG ...\LOG.old ...\MANIFEST-000001 Edit: In a Chrome/Chromium browser it's clear that the .LOG file is storing the settings by viewing it with a text editor. I've had about 1 1/2 years messing with this, and when I finally excluded the whole "Local Extension Settings" folder my extensions started retaining their settings again. Edit 2: Also something CCleaner cleans in Comodo Dragon (another Chrome/Chromium browser) corrupts the Profile for Dragon, well at least it did last year making it impossible to use Dragon and clean with CCleaner.
  10. With Chrome/Chromium browsers the answer is Yes. The reason being when excluding the whole "Local Extension Settings" folder it will protect all installed extensions settings, since Adblock isn't the only extension that will have settings deleted for whatever reason.
  11. See if this fixes it: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42673
  12. I know about the Adblock settings being removed which was why I could never use it with SRWare Iron, it took me months to figure out what was causing the problem. Perhaps give my findings a look too as a possible workaround until there's an official solution: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=45274
  13. The ridiculously loud woman during the Spotify ad on my PlayStation was the reason I removed it and won't bother with it free or paid ever again.
  14. If you're able to get them restored I'd recommend scanning all of them with a freeware tool called AudioTester to make sure the restored MP3s don't have any corruption/errors since it doesn't take much at all to damage them which could result into pops/clicks sounds when playing them.
  15. Years ago OpenOffice would complain when started if Java wasn't installed, although it worked.
  16. If Chrome starts with the system that alone could consume hundreds of MB or available RAM, although I don't know if that would be the sole cause of a slow running system.
  17. Possibly not related however I'll throw it out there: Avira Antivirus v15 has a rare updating issue I've encountered a few times and why I've ditched it where if it can't successfully update (failed update) it can severely slow the system down to a crawl requiring a shutdown or restart, but since the system is running so slow that shutdown or restart can take 30 minutes.
  18. I wasn't sure if Desktop Cleanup Wizard was included in Win7 like it is in old XP and it isn't. However in searching I found this which is worth reading: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/ada5d392-2af7-43c3-9191-08baf63f0098/desktop-icons-disappear?forum=w7itprogeneral
  19. For me it only does that once per-scan, yet even that is still annoying and multiple programs access it including every anti-virus I've ever used. Like mta stated you can disable the floppy drive in the BIOS, and in this day and age they aren't very useful.
  20. Perhaps make sure your Recycle Bin isn't corrupted: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42673
  21. Yes it shows that in Add/Remove as well, but still when I was looking for a cleaner for it in winapp2.ini (looking for AVG AntiVirus) it never occurred to me it would be named AVG Protection. Doesn't really matter to me what it's named in winapp2.ini, I've named it AVG AntiVirus in my own personal winapp2.ini file, so that's good enough.
  22. Updated: Added FileKey 21 to 24 for compatibility with WinXP systems. Purpose a name change to "AVG AntiVirus" since the only place I can find it called "AVG Protection" is for the desktop shortcut and start menu programs shortcut, and within the program it's called AVG AntiVirus. 23. With CCleaner only 1-pass. You could have it format+wipe in one go using the Drive Wiper (has to be on a non-system drive). Although I personally think wiping the drive in your case is a waste of your time being that you said you'll put games on it.
  24. Cleaning the registry won't fix the registry, you'd need to restore the registry from a known good version that's in a backup - system restore, Erunt backup, image file, etc.
