  1. KM Player, VLC Player, SM Player, & Gom Player are all great video players. Latest KM includes ask toolbar, even without permission, so you have to either use the one before that (available on filehippo), or install that, remove the toolbar, & finally, since they break their agreement & install the toolbar (even after you unselect it), you are free to violate your agreement with them & repack it to have a toolbar-less version after you install/remove that stupid toolbar. A user agreement is only valid so long as both parties keep their terms of agreement, & I see with the latest iteration of KM Player, that they are in such a hurry to foist the Ask Toolbar on users, that in spite of unchecking the toolbar, it STILL appears on the user's system, therebye killing off their part of the bargain. I have not noticed a difference in video quality in using KM Player (Which includes nearly every codec you need by default) or Cyber DVD. In addition, a simple CTRL + D will usually launch a DVD in the drive, once KM is loaded. If you need other codecs, it is usually quick or real alternative files. There is a Kazaalite Codec Pack available as freeware, should you need additional codecs. Hope this helps!
  2. I am confused. Are you saying it ISN'T removing the cookies, or that you are searching for the ones you tried to tell it to "keep"? Please be more clear in what you are asking!
  3. It sounds like you are infected with malware. You are advised to run 3 programs. - Download & install spybot search & destroy. Update definitions & run it. Remove all the malware it finds. - Download, install, update Super Antispyware & do the same. - Same thing for Malware Bytes. After running all these programs (a restart may be necessary) then try it again. I had a malware on a user machine once that caused errors in Firefox on close, in addition to allowing an antivirus to install, update, but not run or have real time protection. After removal, the machine worked great & all the errors were gone!
  4. CCleaner is a very safe system cleaner. I do assume you are referring to the registry cleaner. Although attempts have been made to make it safe, registry cleaning is still hit & miss at best. It is there, however, because rogue programs like Symantec frequently leave corrupted uninstallers that do not work, making it nearly impossible to remove. Users can scan for the Symantec keys listed after manually eradicating those folders, & get the ability to install a better AV back. This is just an example, of course, but the advice is to either never use reg cleaning, or watch every key you checkmark before cleaning. Is this what you did, use the registry cleaner?
  5. This is not the point I was trying to make. I was only using this as an example. Besides, it does not matter how low the rates are, the rates are still there. Even 25% is much too high. When is a 1% false detection rate good? Well, that is great! Unless you are the one that ends up in trouble. People always forget that a false positive is STILl a false positive, so low rates make them feel happy, until THEY are the ones that end up in trouble, then they start whining! But I said that because lately, a lot of programs seem to hook into the tasks manager folder, INCLUDING malware, & I suggested it as a feature, because even I, as long as I work on them, sometimes forget that those are a place to check for loading programs, & it is also easy to forget that this is even more dangerous than a simple startup key because of the fact that most people DO NOT check there! It is simple, easy, & very very easy to add that folder to check. I was not suggesting it as a way to promote illegal things, but only to illustrate the reason we need to have it in the first place. Malware, cleaner programs, reg editing programs, tons of programs that can hook into & use that folder for good or bad, JUST LIKE startup entries, only way more dangerous since the average user will never think to look there! It is, like a trojan horse, a backdoor, an overlooked place in security, & one that could easily be closed. Think, how simple, how easy, add a Running Tasks manager to disable or delete tasks? That would be wonderful! Besides, I never use WGA on mine, simply because it is extra trash, & I don't need anything running on my pc that I don't have to. I bought everything I have, so I don't see the problem! Except for freeware & open source alternatives, of course! *Bangs head on wall in frustration.... Please! Do you see what I was trying to say now? Heh heh! Hope this clears the confusion!
  6. I agree. My thumbs up to add it to the tools. Waaaayyyy tooo confusing having it in the cleaner section, then having to checkmark the clean after you already checkmarked to wipe the space in order to even get it to run! A simple way to add the drive you want to shred, then select # passes, & hopefully be able to shred multiple drives at a time!
  7. Anything could be called reinventing the wheel. Why have a startup manager when there is already MS Config? Why have a system cleaner when windows already does have a temp file cleaner? Why have a system restore point manager, when you can in windows? Because it is easier to have a manager for all these forms of trash in a single/solidified unit. That is a form of trash, & CCleaner does clean trash, but the only reason I suggested this, is if CCleaner did this, I am sure that it could help remove much more trash when you used the CCleaner uninstaller generated by the tracer (total program removal).
  8. Do you think you can include, maybe near startup cleanup or something, a way to check & remove tasks from the task manager? I ask, because there are lately, a number of programs that add themselves to tasks to run, much like the startup items on the computer. One annoying one in particular, is Windows Genuine Advantage. If you have updates turned on, but deny it installing, it adds itself to startup to run every time you log on, prompting you to install each time you reboot windows, till either you install it, or remove the task command for it! This is very, very, very annoying, & everyone knows that Windows Genuine Advantage is not only NOT a critical update, it is also very annoying because the first place you tend to look for it is the startup or browser helper object section! Any chance of a way to add the ability to clean the tasks section out, just like the startup tool does? List running tasks & be able to pause or delete them? I would love a really easy way to clean the tasks folder besides going to start/run/tasks/del key, etc! In addition, many people have a LOT of running tasks that they are never aware of! It seems that running tasks are becoming almost as bad as startup entries! Thanks! OOPS!!!! EDIT!!! NOT TASK MANAGER, BUT SYSTEM RUNNING TASKS! Sorry for the mistakes! I was tired, so forgive me. C:/Windows/Tasks Thank you!
  9. CCleaner is great, great, great! What if it has a small script it can include that a person can checkmark while CCleaner is running, to run an install tracer that traces all file & registry locations of each program as it is installed, in it's own folder in the CCleaner directory? It would be really cool to be able to totally & completely uninstall/remove software. Some uninstallers leave lots of junk, & this way, CCleaner might even be able to prevent problems before they happen! A lot of programs leave a lot of junk, so by including a button to click to trace an installation, then that could be used to completely & totally remove a program later on! What do you all think about that idea? I have not seen it suggested yet, but it sounds like such a delicious idea... Any comments?
  10. The reason for this, is that including the ini file is easy when you make it portable. Were CCleaner to have the ini file in the App Data folder, then it would raise all kinds of problems, INCLUDING people who could not find the ini settings file, & even if they did, they would have to then make an installer or SFX extractor to import the INI file to the app data folder, which would be left on the machine after running the cleaning. The object is NOT to try to include as much trash as possible on the user's machine, but to remove trash. Adding the INI to the app data folder instead of the program file folder would seriously make ccleaner a much more difficult app to work with. NOT simpler.
  11. The "portable" version of CCleaner that exists also exist in many pieces. The portable version I have, because it is winrarred down into max compression + solid, it is much smaller than the version someone else created. Here is why I created my own portable version: - Much smaller in size than the other "portable" CCleaner. I can fit many more files on my flash drive! - Exists as a single EXE, not as multiple files. Since having a folder just for CCleaner is eliminated, it makes it simpler! - Extracts to hosts temp dir, then cleans up after closing out... Runs faster than from a flash drive. - Settings are in a rar SFX file so they always stay the same no matter what. Users can change settings, but they always revert back! Maybe you love having folders with 4, 5, or who knows how many files, but I don't! It is expressly because I think running a single EXE is so much simpler, easier, & faster than having a folder! I can put other EXE in the same folder this way, & it works sooooo much better. Especially with programs that try to auto backup certain settings, since the settings will be in the user temp folder, & cleared out when ccleaner is run! They can't save them on the flash drive, & if someone does change your default settings, the rar file is locked so they are always the same every time you launch them!
  12. Just wondering, since the portable.dat file causes CCleaner to avoid using the registry, does it also work for older versions such as 1.41? I created a version in winrar SFX that will unregister the dll & ocx files silently, then register them, then run ccleaner, then unregister them on close. Will portable.dat work for that? Also, will the portable trick work for other programs such as Defraggler, Recuva, or maybe even Firefox? Thanks~!
  13. That may be true, but clearing PF files from time to time is actually beneficial. When malware is set to load with windows, then you remove the malware, do you REALLY want it still set to load each time with windows, hogging CPU cycles trying to figure where that application is gone to so it can "load" it again? Although PF claims to speed things up, in cases like these, it does the opposite. Net effect of gain is reduced to practically 0 by the advent of malware & other problems. Peace!
  14. I think because he tried to set CCleaner to delete all the cookies, but he wanted it to leave certain ones. In effect, he was trying to get CCleaner to do a "Delete all cookies EXCEPT these certain ones here!" Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is what he was trying to do...
  15. Do you mean to replace MS add/remove with CCleaner?
  16. Could you add the ability to scan the registry for certain keys? For instance, typing symantec to remove symantec keys? Have a PC that the Norton Antivirus would not uninstall due to corrupted MSI file, & the norton remove tool would not work because "it is installed" after I had already scanned for & removed all the norton files on an external drive. What fixed it is running a registry cleaner where I could select & delete the symantec files, about 2-300 of them or so. Then Norton Removal tool could completely finish the job of ending services, removing keys, etc. Can you add the ability to search the registry for specific keys, say, symantec, norton, etc, so that we can remove left over trash from stubborn programs? Thanks!
  17. Specs: Windows Vista SP1 Laptop with 2 GB ram & 2.1 GHZ dual core processor. IE7 browser + CCleaner 2.28 I tested personally to be sure this happened on my friends machine, but he discovered a huge privacy risk that I am sharing with you. We ran CCleaner 2.28 & found the following problem in Internet Explorer version 7, but this also existed in CCleaner 2.30 version as well. In running CCleaner, the history appears to be deleted in all locations. IE is, of course, totally closed out while this is going on. But click the favorites icon on the toolbar, then go to the part where it lets you search the history, because all the other places appear "blank" after CCleaner is run! No history to be found, anywhere! But bring up the search box for history in the way I mentioned above, & type in say, M or any other character, then hit enter. Tons of history come back up! You can click every one of them & see exactly where a person has been, as though the history never has been deleted in the first place! I also tried the secure wipe in CCleaner, + I tried running IE7's own tool to remove all internet tracks, but the problem remained! THEN, I updated to Internet Explorer 8 & ran CCleaner & the problem still existed! However, clearing the tracks this time with IE8's cleaner DID remove the history (finally!), & after that, CCleaner could successfully remove all history once IE8 did it the first time! Is there going to be a fix for this? It is embarrassing to see certain, ahem, sites pop up NOT in the standard history, but that the search history box could bring EVERYTHING back in IE7? Anyone know when there is going to be a fix for this? I was slightly embarrassed that CCleaner could not erase this! Any chance this will be fixed in the future? Anyone else want to try it & verify? Again, on a Vista SP1 machine, open IE7. Click the favorites icon on the bar right above the tab on the left side of the browser, or possibly to the left of the tab. Click the history & search function. Type in something & hit enter, & watch it all come back! I hope this is fixed, & thanks for such a great program!
  18. Sorry, I have been away a while. I think the first thing, he really means that the first time you enable the task (defrag on a schedule), that it doesn't always work.
  19. Yeah, that would be awesome. Maybe have these sections: Title / Program Name / Section (Choose Windows or Application Dir) / Files to include / Reg entries to include It would take work to create it, but wow, that would be totally awesome! It may be nearly impossible to remove "all" reg keys due to the fact that MS makes volume shadow copies, restore points, etc etc, but the main areas in the reg that accumulate trash, I know many of those key areas. I hope they do make a GUI version, cause the defraggler GUI works great! The problem I have with the manual way now, is having to double check everything to be sure it is all correct, then making sure it loads right (testing it out) etc. Having a GUI would make it so much easier & faster! I will definitely be checking out the newer versions. I checked out a lot of cleaning programs, but so far, CCleaner seems my fav.
  20. Easy way to keep your INI file from being deleted. Copy the .ini file before install to another location, then copy it back after install. I am also fairly certain that doing an update as opposed to an uninstall, will also keep the ini file. Putting the exclude & include in the other ini file would NOT be a good idea, because the ini file CCleaner saves its settings in is the one that is generated when being used portably. Users would then have to remember to add another ini file, the app2 ini, & I will tell you that most users will not remember to use that one when trying to go portable! They have that part right, so I think it is fine to leave it alone! Switching that info to the other ini could cause obvious problems!
  21. I noticed that Defraggler is very simple in adding files to move to the last part of the drive. Just point & click! I thought CCleaner would be so much simpler too, if it had a point & click "add program to clean" option, instead of having to tediously write out entries, double check to see they are right, etc. Any way to incorporate a similar feature into CCleaner that Defraggler has, like "Title of program", "Program type", "Program location", "Please check whether to use absolute or relative paths" I just thought adding apps would be so much faster, better, & easier to automate this area! I know you can drag & drop folders etc, but what about making it simpler for people to add the apps they want cleaned, so it takes less time & frustration adding or removing apps? Thank you! Let me know what you think!
  22. Can you guys please add to CCleaner, an option to dump & permanently overwrite/erase broadband modem logs? Thank you! Heh heh!
  23. I think a better option would be to keep it simple like it is, like have the program set up with the options to defrag: - files - free space - files + free space Then, have a tick mark you can check beside each drive whether to check it for errors before starting, along with an apply to all drives. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forget the above. I found an even simpler way. Just have tick marks beside each drive where you can select to defrag files, or free space, along with check drive for errors & shutdown. You could select only files, only free space, or both. This would eliminate the need to have the files + free space option, as it would be redundant. Additionally, the ability to apply plan to all would complete the package.
  24. In the meantime, you can shut off hibernation in the control panel in W7, & just use the start/shutdown/standby options. Standby sleeps in low power & is very fast to resume. Hibernation is an even deeper sleep, but you can just use standby & avoid those problems...
  25. Having multiple languages is duplicity. You do not really need to have all languages on your system just because you can speak them all. The purpose of a language selector is not to load as much junk as possible to your PC, but to allow you to choose the language you use, or use the most. The checkmark box on the installer will ask "Do you want to check for updates?" to which it always DOES check for updates immediately after closing the installer, whether you select no, yes, or nothing at all for it. In addition, you have to manually turn it off in the settings to keep it from coming up every time you run Defraggler, which annoys me, well, quite a lot! Whew! Click, click, click! heh heh! Hope this is fixed before I go crazy(er) Thanks!
