  1. - I don't have Win 10 but Ccleaner (v5.21) does report here on my Win 7 system that that one .NET version (v4.5.2) has been installed.
  2. I installed .NET v4.5.2 yesterday but SPECCY fails to recognize that (See the link in my signature at the bottom of this post). SPECCY (v1.29) only recognizes .NET software versions up version v4.5. But MS already has released .NET versions v4.5.1, v4.5.2, v4.6.0, v4.6.1 and v4.6.2. MS provides a programcode example on how to detect these different versions in the links below. 3. - This article provides SOME details. http://blog.superuser.com/2011/05/10/maximizing-the-lifetime-of-your-ssd/
  4. - MS no longer supports .NET software versions v4, v4.50 & v4.51. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dotnet/2015/12/09/support-ending-for-the-net-framework-4-4-5-and-4-5-1/ Question: After having read this article I upgraded to .NET v4.52. I have a few nice programs that require .NET. Is it normal that previous/lower versions are removed automatically ?
  5. - In the folder "My Documents" (or the spanish ??) equivalent. The file has the date & time when this file was made, in its name. - Just click on that *.reg file. Then you'll be asked if you want yo "merge" that file with the registry. Reply with "Yes".
  6. - I told DF to not show the System Restore Points (SRPs). That works well for the "File List" tab but when I use the "Search" tab then these files showed up in the list. I searched the drive for files that contain "." and those SRPs showed up in the file list. And that's in spite of those files not having a "." in their name and no extension. - At the same time: when I highlighted one of those fragmented SRPs (in the file list) DF highlighted that same SRP in a colour that suggested that this file/SRP was not defragmented.
  7. - That article points to this webpage with info on the .NET software. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dotnet/2016/08/15/introducing-the-net-framework-monthly-rollup/
  8. - When DF is using A LOT OF CPU then it's "unwilling" to close itself. Then one can click on the "X" in the top right hand of the DF GUI and then that GUI disappears. But Task Manager tells me that DF is still running with high CPU. I then usually manually close that process using that same Task Manager.
  9. - In XP Defraggler (DF) was able to defragment the System Restore Points. But from Win 7 (???) onwards DF isn't able to defragment those files anymore. And those SRPs ares stored in "C:\System Volume Information". - Does Win 10 (like in Win 7) place those SRPs on the second half of the logical drive ? If so, then I wouldn't worry too much about that. Use DF to move all other files (more) towards the beginning of the drive. It will force Windows to place those SRPs towards the end of the drive even more.
  10. - New version of "Tweaking's Windows Repair All in One" (WR) available. This time it's version WR v3.97. It now also is able to "repair" (= repair & clean) the recycle bin. It turns out that one needs to "tweak"/reset the permissions of the recycle bin to get that done. - "Tweaking's Registry Backup" has advanced to version v3.50. Source: www.Tweaking.com Bug reports and other feedback are - as always - welcome and are to be posted on the "Tweaking.com" website/forum. (I know that in the past some Ccleaner users had some problems with deleting the content of the recycle bin. Perhaps the CC developers can learn one or two things from how things are done in WR v3.97 and improve CC ??)
  11. - Ouch. About 3 months ago I bought the PRO version ..............................
  12. - Do you mean "checking for updates" or the the download itself ? Because downloading from the MS websites is FAST !!! The "regular" internet speed I experience is (fairly) good but the download speed of the MS website is actually FAST !!! - Your internet connection could be a (bit) "buggy". I had the same problem but checking all the connections & resetting the WiFi router made the connection fast again.

  14. - @MTA: That website only provides the ISO when the user has a retail version of Win 7, not when one has a OEM version. But the tool (see post #1) doesn't bother and provides the ISO, even when the user has a OEM version.
  15. - It turns out that one still can download the ISOs for Win 10, Win 8.1 & Win 7. And it's all 100% legal, from the MS websites. MS only has hidden those ISOs rather well. Some smart folks even have made a tool to make downloading those ISOs much easier. The website "How to Geek" has all the details. http://www.howtogeek.com/186775/how-to-download-windows-7-8-and-8.1-installation-media-legally/
  16. - More bad news for DF v2.21. My pagefile was in 3 fragments. DF recognized that the pagefile was fragmented. Because upon start up DF wanted to defrag the pagefile. But after say 10 to 15 seconds DF apparently decided it was unable to do so. DF moved on to defrag other system files. And that was in spite of having enough contiguous free disk space for a defragmented pagefile of 8 GB in size. - I had to use a program called ............. to get that pagefile defragmented. It took ........................ several minutes to get the job done but after that the pagefile was defragmented.
  17. - Here's another thing I don't like in DF. Regularly DF uses LARGE amount of CPU. Especially when it must move files towards the end of the drive. - But what's REALLY "annoying" is what happens when I have moved A LOT OF files (for the time being I only have seen this when these files were moved towards the end of the drive) and close the program. Then it regularly happens that DF fails to close itself and keeps running for another say 60 to 90 seconds with very high CPU (Task Manager says it's at about 25%). I also can hear that because then the cooling fan is "working overtime".
  18. - Used another program ( ....................... ) in an attempt to defrag the pagefile but it only increased the defragmentation (from 4 to 12 fragments). But surprisingly, after using that program, now DF recognizes the pagefile again and it was able to reduce fragmentation to (only) four fragments.
  19. - Haven't got the faintest clue. As long as WU works well I would avoid installing that update. Only the words "Win 10" alone makes this update for me VERY suspicious. Don't want too much junk on my HD (think: Winsxs folder). - You could install it and if it has some ugly nagware then you Always can remove the update. - This month I only installed KB 3168965 and that was enough to get WU "rolling" again. - KB 3033385 is the Win 10 nagware. To be avoided.
  20. - No, I didn't exclude anything. Can DF be set to ignore the pagefile ? - BTW, I prefer DF over .............. because DF has more options to "move files around". (Although it still can be improved)
  21. - Auslogic Defrag was able to pull up the location of the fragmented pagefile (See picture, in highlighted black) and told me that it had four fragments. But DF wasn't even able to detect that the pagefile was fragmented. Perhaps DF is too critical when it comes to the pagefile and then decides it isn't there ? "Rogue" registry setting ?
  22. - This webpage http://wu.krelay.de/en/ provided the solution. Installed manually the right (security ??) Update, rebooted and all was OK (WU found the updates within say 10 minutes). Although on my laptop WU has to wait with its update procedure until I shut down my system and NOT a second sooner.
  23. - M.C. Escher was a dutch graphic artist (1898-1972). http://www.mcescher.nl/galerij/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._C._Escher
  24. - There's one improvement in the behaviour of "Svchost.exe" in comparison with the previous "Windows Update tuesday" nightmare. It doesn't use over ~ 200 to 350 MB anymore. But apart from that it's still a nightmare.
