  1. Hardly a constructive post Eldmannen, besides, it isn't the computer, its all the stuff they pre-install that usually leads people to these coments
  2. An English band, nice background sound, not very intrusive, some of their hits include Wonderwall, Champiagne Supernova, and Morning Glory, incidently off of the same album, but lots of other big hits form their other stuff. Very good listen. as for me, i have a little of everything, i've never had someone look at my ipod and say "theres nothing good here", only thing i don't like is angry hate music. some favs: ACDC Big and Rich Linkin Park Green Day CCR Beach Boys etc.
  3. sorry to bring this up, but i have a few more updates regarding the folder re-appearing. the folder returned on its own, i'm not really sure when, but at some point non-the-less, anyway, today i changed the name of the file to see what would happen, within minutes of doing this the old folder re-appeared on the desktop with the old name. this isn't the first time this has happened to me, its not really emergency related, but it is crazy annoying. hopefully you can help out.

    issues

in general you can click Fix All. During the process it will ask you if you want to back up the registry, i suggest doing this (I have created a file in my CCleaner folder called back-up registry, then if you fix anything you think you needed, or if something stops working properly afterwards, you can reset them back to how they were before you fixed it. As these files are tiny, i don't really see the harm in keeping them for as long as need be. hopefully this clears some things up.
  5. sorry to disagree with you rridgely, but i have recently found a file it will not play, a file i converted using divX converter. for some reason i think its having trouble distinguishing the subtiltes...but yes, VLC is king of all players. English...why not just have a few basic codec packs installed, and use VLC for anything WMP won't decode.
  6. YES BUT WHAT IS IT DOING POSTING CELEB PICS IN THE SOFTWARE SECTION?
  7. can anyone answer the epic question, who or what is a d2e and what is it that it does?
  8. as attractive and "ehem" great a tennis player she is, I am highly skeptical as to Anna's software relevance? PS: Maria Sharapova is better looking and MUCH better on the court
  9. when you check things to fix in HJT, are you actually doing anything, i'm a little confused, do you have to actually go find the files and delete them manually?
  10. thankx for the advice guys, i might try some of these, i'll post back if any of the suggestions work out, if not i'll just format his computer and go from there.
  11. hi all, my question is regarding trial programs, for instance when you download a program and they give you 15 days to try it for free. how do these trials work, do they install something on your computer that tells the software how long to allow it. if so, is there anyway to reset this counter. my friends computer had alot of previous users and it appears some of these trials in the past. he went to try a program out and it said he already used up his 15 days. thankx for any advice regarding this
  12. www.deviantart.org for all your skinning needs, that or themexp.org as for good iTunes themes, see this page http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/media/itunes/ hope this helps, just download the skin and unzip it into your iTunes skin folder
  13. 1- the ntoskrnl i got from themexp. i went in through safemode and overwrote the file. Restarted and it works fine. I can turn off the comp, restart it, hybernate, standby, no matter what i do the new boot screen always works...then i go to download/install a windows update and it reverts back to the original xp boot screen. The current update it is asking me to dl/install is: KB898461 - something about Package Installer for windows to enable software updates to have smaller download sizes, etc. I'm thinking there must be a setting that is restored everytime it asks me to boot after the installation of the updates. 2- I tried the F5 after dragging it to the recycling bin...it seems to be gone now, but it generally takes some time for it to come back. When this issue happens its almost as if its a windows proteched file, like when you delete it, it just reappears at a random time. As for the other questions, System Restore is enabled, i don't run and weird programs like Norton Systemworks, or and type of recycling programs. Also, to go with this, why is it that some files i am not able to uncheck read-only, when they are clearly created by me?? thankx alot DJ, PS: looking forward to you finding a way to getting the music downloads back on your site.

    2 problems

hi, first one is regarding undeletable files/folders...sometimes i'll create a temp folder on my desktop or whereever, and i won't be able to delete it later, or after i do so it just reappears at next restart? also i can't keep the "read only" tab from being uncheked, i uncheck it then i go in again and its back?? second question, I've hacked my boot screen to something a little less blan, the only problem is that every time i do a windows update it goes back to the boring windows xp boot screen...any suggestions on how to keep mine there? I'm talking about the ntoskrnl.exe file thankx
  15. DJ, i checked out PeerGuardian, what do you mean by ... are you saying its too advanced for your tipical user to understand, or that theres too many things to manually set up? would you recomend it to anyone or just certain types of people? thankx
  16. Bonjour, first off, firefox is way better than IE, but now that i've said it, here goes with your question. the links folder reappearing is not spyware or a virus, thats why none of your scans will reveal anthing. if you delete it from all locations and it still comes back then it is likely a windows protected file, probably read only and such. I can't remember how to get rid of it, someone else on here is likely going to post your solution, just know that its likely not very serious.
  17. Just becasue somethings free doesn't make it pirated, thats why there exists paid and freeware.
  18. Holla, recently i've been having a problem with my Fox browser "shaking" occasionally. Anyone here ever heard of this and know how to fix it. The actual computer screen is fine, the title bars stay still, but all the things in the main page move up and down in a slow hypnotic way, even when scrolling. It may also be happening in IE, i can't remember right now, i use it far less frequently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT THANKX ENGLISHMEN, I'M PRETTY SURE ITS THE SECOND ONE, I GOT THE FIX FROM THE SITE AND I'LL CHECK THE STATUS TONITE WHEN I GET HOME, CHEERS MATE
  19. Hi all, so a friend of mine at work has just realized that a VERY important folder has just been deleted. This folder was on a network drive, and she doesn't know who deleted the folder, she just needs it back. Any suggestions?
  20. SO COULD THIS REALLY F-UP A COMPUTER IF YOU...SAY... ENTER .exe? not that i would do this
  21. I'm currently running XP Home SP2, 80G, I just bought a new comp and it came pre-setup from dell. All my previous comps have had at least two partitions, and i kind of miss them. Is there a way to create new partitions without losing any of the stuff currently on my C: drive? thankx

    New or Old?

I think that depends on a lot of things, the obvious answer is no, because there are always exceptions to the rule. I used to run windows 2000SP4 and the old version of Bittorent worked 100x better than the newest version. But most of the time changes generally fix known problems in the previous version, so if there is something you are having problems with, check to see if this new version addresses your concerns, if not, then stay with your version.
  23. Hi all, so heres the story, i was playing around with my boot screen and i accidentally corrupted this file (ntoskrnl.exe, found in the system32 folder) by saving over it with an incompatible file. Now Windows will not boot at all, not even into comand prompt or safe mode. I thought i was clever saving a copy of the original file, however i saved it as "Copy of ntoskrnl.exe" (with the spaces). I have tried to copy it back over the original from the Recovery Console (from the XP re-install Cd) but i'm having problems becasue it can't do anything with files that have spaces in the name. I could really use some suggestions on this one as i'm pretty stuck here. Is there an easy way to get this file back and still keep all my files/docs on my hardrive? thankx
  24. Tarun, does this mean i can/should delete everything displayed in the emulator? thankx
