  1. NOTHING THERE, ALL THE SETTINGS ARE ALREADY NOT TO TURN OFF
  2. i have a 700m Dell Inspiron laptop, and the screen changes brightness based on whether it is plugged in to AC or if its running on batteries, does anyone here know how i change that setting? I've googled it and checked on dells site, but nothing so far. thankx for the help.
  3. it actually hid the drive in the My Computer folder, as well it wouldn't display it in the Send To menu. what I ended up realizing is that it would show these choices so long as i didn't click or exit the warning bubble popped up. as soon as it was clicked or exited all reference of it would disapear, as well as the Remove Device Safely icon in the sys tray. kind or odd, but i got around it no prob so its all good now.
  4. a little off topic here, but i feel worth mentioning it, i got an ipod a few months back and it claimed to only work with usb2.0. one of the main reasons i wanted it was to transfer everything from my old laptop (9 yr old usb ports and running win98se) to my new one, as it doesn't have a writer built in and i didn't have any interet access at the time. So i plugged in the ipod and it worked fine, yes a little(lot) slow, but it worked without any warnings. then i tried it on my bros laptop, with has the old usb's but is running winXP. and a funny thing happened, a msg popped up saying it wouldn't work becasue it wasn't USB2.0. I had to laugh at this one, his computer was too smart to know it "wouldn't" work, where as my old 98 machine was just too dam stupid to know it wouldn't, lol, you gotta love all these built in warnings of xp. As it turned out it did end up working but it took some time to figure out how to fool the xp system. once again sorry for the off topic, but it seemed to fit with the discussion.
  5. bringing back an old dog here with that post, but definetly newhotness! and fyi, the corilation is "old n busted" and both come from Men In Black 2.

    Hi

Hello thedon57 welcome to the CCleaner forums. your English copyrights mean nothing to me here in Canada
  9. True there are gaps, but programs like iTunes and the whole iPod revelution has basically gotten rid of these gaps using overlap, which also is nice bc it simulates the club/radio feel of continuous music.
  10. my moms took over 40 minutes to complete, and it only deleted a few hundred megs, but the file count was rediculous, size doesn't matter, quantity over quality..lol
  11. First off, is this a re-install cd that came with the computer or one you had to make yourself from a built in application the computer? with that in mind, heres what i "think"... Generally all the "dell" or "gateway" specific apps come on an additional cd and shouldn't hurt the Dell in anyway. I've done this before and it shouldn't really matter which computer its installed on. (The only one i can recall off the top of my head was an XP-pro version though, so you better wait for comformation from one of the better tech guys on here (DJ, Tarun, etc.)) I think this just means that your cd is not as updated as the current running version on her computer...this basically means you have to do the format from the boot cd option, i've never had any problems with this stopping the format. WITH all these things said, I'd be interested to hear what people on here have to say about installing programs designed for one comp on another, as far as if its totally-on-the-level? ALSO, as my advice here is at best not that strong, my final word on the subject would be this, if she already has the Right version on here computer, just get in contact with Gateway and have them send out another CD.
  12. that cmd didn't work, does the name maybe have to be exactly the same as its writen on my comp? also, just like to says thankx to both of you for your quick replys, you guys compliment each other great, after reading Taruns post i was just about to ask "well can i delete it then?" then i read DJ's and bam, there was the answer, thankx again
  13. I have just formated my dell laptop, Win XP Home, I have moved the My Documents folder to another logical drive. Hopefully this doens't span too many different topics, but here goes for now: 1) Some time after the format i now how an unknown User Account on my computer which was definetly not there before the format/ re-install of all my apps. The user name in question is "ASP.NET Machine A..." - has anyone ever heard of this happening or have any idea what this could be? I havn't accessed the internet yet since the format so i'm pretty sure its due to one of the programs i installed. Paint.net asked me to instal the .net thingy (sorry can't recall what its called..i think its called framework) anyway, it never asked me the time before so could this have been the problem? 2) This is more of an iTunes question, i used to have a Skins folder in my itunes folder, but now after re-instal its not there? any suggestions? 3) I have all my hidden and systems files visible, is it normal to have the same file " desktop.ini" in EVERY folder on my comp? 4) I've been re-organizing my start menu, what does it mean when you try to move something and it pops up and says something like "moving this folder will affect all users" ? Also, after moving certian things, other folders became empty, eg. games and entertainment became empty after i moved something (not sure what i moved? i moved alot) hopefully some of you computer guru's can help me out with some of these issues, thankx
  14. i'm reformatting my comp and i'm thinking of having programs and my documents on separate partitons. will CCleaner recognize where all the stuff is if there all over the place on my computer? for example: Probably gonna have c: drive, then programs on d: drive, then my documents on another drive. will CCleaner still work the same with this set-up?

  16. yes, i am a guy, but thats alright, one of the good things about cyberspace is stuff like that doesn't really matter unless you really care? anyway, one of things i love about this place is how a simple topic changes into stuff completely unrelated to the topic of the thread, as it appears it is not possible to have hotmail forwarded at this time, this thread should be closed. fyi: the name newhotness comes from the movie Men in Black 2, when WS says "old and busted...newhotness" and it comes from the fact that my house mates at school all had good comps and mine was, well, very old and busted...until i got my new one..ie, newhotness! thankx for the input, PS: DJ you don't come off as cocky, just knowledgeable
  17. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A WAY TO SET UP HOTMAIL WITH POP PLEASE POST IT AS A NEW TOPIC, I'D BE VERY INTERESTED TO KNOW HOW. THANKX
  18. So heres where i'm at now, I have a new Dell Laptop running XP with lots of HD and RAM. I want to have multiple partitions (not to dual boot or anything, just to have them for other stuff). I talked to Tech support and they told me they don't encourage multiple partitions and therefore won't help me with my questions (not trying to bad mouth Dell, i find there tech support generally pretty good). The guy on the phone told me that with new dells they have something called PC Restore which restores the computer back to factury settings. He also told me that if i format that i will never be able to re-instal this PC Restore utility and therefore i will not be able to return to factury settings. Here are my questions for you: Does this all sound on the level, or is this guy BS'ing me here? Do I really need this PC restore? won't system Recovery be just as helpful, and do i really care to ever go back to dell factury settings? Can anyone here think of any additional harm this could cause my computer? What i mean by this, is if i re-install everything from the Disk that came with my computer, will all the pre-set stuff be re-loaded? I know theres a lot here to analyse, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  19. WOW this thing is amazing, i was never really into mechs until i got an xbox and it came with mechassualt, since then they've been pretty kool to me. Something tells me this guy has a little too much time on his hands, but whatever, still pretty kool. On a side note, has anyone played the "new" game Lonewolf for xbox? if so is it any good?
  20. Is there a way to set up hotmail to forward all messages to another account? I googled it but found no help...but this forum is clearly better than any google search. thankx fyi, i'm trying to send all my hotmail stuff to my new gmail account
