  1. Well, I really don't know about this. Anyway, I just switched to Avira! (wow, I've switched anti-viruses a lot of times. First AVG, next Norton, then McAfee, then avast! and then PCTools and now... Avira antivirus.) EDIT: I forgot to add BitDefender and Sophos to that list.
  2. How good is it? Because thats what I have...
  3. But look at this though: Clicky! Being included on that list is pretty good though isn't it?
  4. Good thing they increased the scan speed. At least a little, because it takes almost an hour for a full scan.
  5. Is it good to patch the UXTheme file? I'm not going to do it unless someone does it and their PC doesn't screw up.
  6. FF 3.0 is much better than FF 2 in memory leaking terms but overall, Firefox is still hogging way too much memory and I'm using FF 3 beta 5.
  7. That program looks alright. Oooohh a portable version, nice! I think I might just give this a try.
  8. Nice find! Anyway, what exactly does the UXTheme Patch do? I know it doe something that lets you instert unsigned themes.
  9. I have Opera, FF, and IE on my computer, but CCleaner doesn't have any checkboxes related to Opera, like cleaning Temporary files etc. I tried reinstalling CCleaner but it didn't work. What is going on?
  10. I just don't get it. I've never seen PCTools stuff being mentioned on those anti-virus comparing sites. I use PCTools too...
  11. You're right Davey but some memory hogging programs are windows componets, like explorer.exe. It's not exactly good to quit those types of programs, and one more thing, my explorer process sometimes takes up over 60+ mb memory. I've never seen it do this before...
  12. Actually I have 447 mb RAM. I'm thinking about getting some more RAM but... I don't know

That's interesting! I think I'll bookmark that site.
  14. Thanks for the help Dennis! I tried out this tool and it removed all install failiures and leftover files I think because my HD space is back to 26.6 gigs!
  15. I really want to see this movie. Gotta try to make some time to go see it.
  16. A few minutes before, I had 26.6 gigs of free space left. A few minutes later, my free space was 26.3 gigs. What happened? (Note: I cancelled an installation of .NET Framework 3.0 at that time because it froze.) I restarted my computer and it's still this way. What's the problem?
  17. Downloading it right now. I've searched for a freeware FLV file converter without viruses and spyware for a long time. EDIT: Working pretty good so far! Looks like a keeper for me.
  18. Ok I'll try that Dennis, thanks! EDIT: It worked! Now my PC is finally free of McAfee junk.
  19. I just uninstalled McAfee and I installed PCTools Anti-virus. The problem is, McAfee left a lot of crap on my computer that I can't even get rid of, like this service in the services part of XP Home. Are there any tools or stuff to completely remove McAfee?

    Freeware!

See this Bleeping Computer topic for a HUGE list of freeware programs, but some of them have been mentioned here. They're all programs known to be free of spyware and viruses etc. Link: Click here!
  21. Nice little tool for those of you who have big Start menus. Link: Clicky! There's a Freeware and a "Extended" version of this program for $19.99
  22. This is a nice program, just installed it today because of everyone's positive reviews. Great so far but I don't exactly get the Hunter Mode.
  23. Yeah, what's the news on how SP3 is going? I'm thinking about waiting until Microsoft releases SP3 through update.
  24. Well that's something new! I'm might try that FF "hack" though it isn't actually a hack.
