  5. na, I mean an app that can prevent selected processes from writing themselves to the page file instead of staying in the RAM. There are some apps that I always have running that get written to the page file, which causes the process to have to be rewritten back to the ram when it is called again. this causes a severe slowdown since my hard disk is not very fast.
  6. I have been searching for something like this for a while. What I want is an app that can prevent specified processes from paging out. I will settle for anything at this point. Thanks.
  7. I use ext2 on my 250gb external hdd in Windows for compatibility reasons.
  8. torrents have always been my method of P2P. Love it. Really all you will ever need is a client for BitTorrent, Gnutella, Gnutella 2, and eDonkey2k networks and you will be set for p2p.
  9. that folder is used by the GIMP. You can delete it if you have GIMP installed or ever did before.
  10. I love Sandboxie. My process for testing questionable files is to first scan them with Clamwin, then if they come up clean I then run it in sandboxie.

    compress files

sounds like your flash drive is to blame for corrupting them. How old is the drive and how often do you transfer temp files from it?

    Freeware!

Process Lasso free version the paid version only removes a little piece of text in the window. " Process Lasso is a unique new technology intended to automatically adjust the allocation of CPU cycles so that system responsiveness is improved in high-load situations. It does this by dynamically temporarily lowering the priorities of processes that are consuming too many CPU cycles, there-by giving other processes a chance to run if they are in need. This is useful for both single and multi-core processors. No longer will a single process, even at normal priority, be able to bring your system to a virtual stall. In addition, Process Lasso offers capabilities such as default process priorities, termination of disallowed processes, and logging of processes executed." This thing really works well. http://www.bitsum.com/prosuper.asp
  13. cracked software dont always have malware but it is a very big threat. btw whoever needed that media center conversion disc, don't worry the 2 files u need to download are legal. u used to be able to order them for free from ms, for shipping and handling until they ended it. Cracked software is shareware that has it's copy protection circumvented to allow users that never paid for it to access it as if they had. circumventing copy protection can have the end result of a keygen or a serial number, or a patcher or just pre-cracked. the holy grail location for piraters to store their servers is Sealand cause it's only file storage laws are for preventing child porn.
  14. partially inaccurate.
  15. btw, vso divxtodvd has been renamed to vso convertxtodvd.

  17. All Windows XP Media Center Edition is is Windows XP Professional, minus the XP Pro feature "Joining Domains". All that is added is the Windows Media Center suite, which consists of Media Center, the Royale theme, and, sometimes, a aquarium screensaver. And to clarify, if anyone has any doubts that the torrent I linked to is really the 2005 version of MCE, here is the answer- As for the 2002 issue, let me explain... Media Center Edition 2005 is nothing more than a series of updates for Windows XP Pro. Always has been. Your system properties will still show 2002 because there was never a newer release of XP Pro on the market. Now, where the 2005 comes in... Open Media Center and from the Menu screen, select "Settings" then "General" then "About Media Center" then "Software Version". It is within here that you?ll find "Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition... version 5.1... rollup2... etc." I apologize for any confusion you all may have but if you dont believe me about the version of Windows released, google it or search Microsofts maze of a site and you?ll come up with the same answers I?ve given you.
  18. huh, some posts just disappeared.
  19. the file you downloaded is a Torrent file. This contains hashes and checksums, which are used to download the actual file. To download the file, you need a BitTorrent client, I strongly recommend ?Torrent. Once you get a bittorrent client, you open the .torrent file you already downloaded using the client, then the file you need will be downloaded. In this case, you only need the disc image that converts XP Professional to XP Media Center Edition 05, so you only need to download 2 of the 5 files included in the torrent, "Windows XP to Media Center Edition 2005 Converter.iso", and the readme that explains how to use the converter, "windows.xp.to.media.center.edition.2005.converter.nfo". If you don't already know, you just open files with the .nfo extension in notepad. I suggest you read a few short articles on how to use BitTorrent first, it is very simple. I have tried all the files in this torrent, and they work perfectly. For more help after you have downloaded the 2 files you need, see the original page and the comments, HERE. You may have to update your existing installation of XP Pro using Windows Update before you can successfully complete the XP Pro to MCE 05 upgrade process, I did.
  20. lost over 100 hollywood movies, over 300 videos, all my custom pictures, every episode of 24, every episode of X-Files, over 300Gb of music, all my installers. All was on my external 2TB WD hard drive, which was encrypted with TrueCrypt. The header was touched by the Grub boot loader and the drive became unmountable. I thought I had the header backed up, but I had it backed up to the actual hard drive that was encrypted, so a lot of good that did.
  21. I use a router and at times, Tiny Firewall.
