I've never used this, but what about TrendSecure?

Thanks, Kenny. I'm pretty much already aware of what you said, but I was hoping to get a specific comparison between the two software firewalls I mentioned.

I'm not asking this for myself. Someone asked my opinion about something that I wasn't really sure of, but I said I'd try to find out a little more info. Between these two, which provides better firewall protection . . . ZoneAlarm Free or Windows XP (built-in) firewall?

Yes, I use Macrium and backup to a 320GB external USB harddrive. Hopefully, you're using USB 2.0 and not 1.1 (which would be very slow). Actually, this software is great. The commercial version (which I happen to have) also allows for standard selected folder/file backups in addition to imaging.

Many CD replication facilities suggest 4x -- no more than 8x.

I don't really use it much myself, but it's a nice clean, straightforward little app to have. It will also burn gapless audio, but I usually use Burrrn for that.

Foxit Reader 3.0.1120 released today.

That's pretty simple. Thanks, Talldog.

So, does this mean that you can also install and use a portable app on your HD? Also, I'm a little embarrassed for not knowing this, but I've never used a portable program before. So, could someone give me a 1-2-3 on how I would go about preparing a CD version. I already have the program downloaded -- now what?

Can you elaborate on this, Andavari?

How do you use (or access) "send to desktop"? Is that a right-click function?

On what kind of media can portable apps be installed and used?
-
Well, it sounds like I'm in good company , so I guess I'll stop worrying about it.

I have internal floppy and CD drives (in addition to my external harddrive). When I launch a number of my programs, they first query my A:\ (floppy) drive and I really don't understand why this happens. There really is no reason for it and it should be totally unnecessary. Could this be a bios (setting) issue -- or is it something else?

I do exactly the same thing, Slowday. The two apps seem to play well together.

I didn't know you used this, Dennis. I've been using it ever since I became aware of it several months ago. I have mine set to run about every 30 minutes or so -- and it's been great! Really seems to keep memory freed up -- and I've had no problems with it whatsoever. Sure wish there were something similar for "my own" memory

Is that by chance DVD Shrink 3.2?

There's a small little app called CleanMem that has been discussed on this forum before. I've used it for quite some time and it works amazingly well for me. It's not a memory "cleaner" per se, but it works to periodically release memory that other apps forget to release after they are closed. There's a complete explanation on the site -- you can read about it before making your own decision. By the way . . . it's free.

What are the significant differences between "Paragon Hard Disk Manager" and "Paragon Partition Manager"?

Anyone ever run the "Junk Files Cleaner" included with Revo Uninstaller? Any problems?

OK - I've got it!! I took a look at the WP site and it didn't appear to do what what I was asking. Maybe I just missed it. Sorry.

I don't really want to disable or remove startup items -- just rearrange the way they load -- or possibly even delay some of them.

What's the best way to control the order of loading-- and/or delay -- startup items at bootup?
