chong67
Can someone tell me what I should and should not do with CCleaner on a SSD? What to check and uncheck when I clean. Thanks!
amckern
I would recommend you run wipe free space only once - all the other options are fine.

chong67
Cleaner - Advanced - "Wipe Free Space" This should be uncheck. Got it! ===== Options - Settings - "Wipe Free Space Drives" 2 questions: * Do I Uncheck C:\ ? * Do I Uncheck "Wipe MF Free Space" ?
Moderators DennisD Posted August 24, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 24, 2010 To be safe, I would uncheck both. There's also a WFS checkbox in "CCleaner\Windows\Advanced", which is unchecked by default. None of the WFS options will run with that box cleared. Aethec
Don't use WFS on a SSD (it's pointless anyway because of the way SSDs work), and don't clean things too often - once a week or month should be enough. Piriform French translator
Moderators DennisD Posted August 25, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 25, 2010 Aethec's extra info has prompted me to mention (in case you weren't aware), that it's unnecessary to defrag a Solid State Drive, as they employ a technique called "Wear Levelling". http://sysmannews.com/story/32501
chong67
Did you say do not use CCleaner too often on a SSD? What is wrong with getting off the cookies and other junk on there like whats on the trash bin everyday? Is it OK to clean out the Registry once a week? Well, SSDs have limited reads and writes, so using CCleaner everyday will "kill" the SSD faster. Piriform French translator
chong67
I have a 64gb SSD. So I guess wait until I get to 50gb, then do the cleaning. Good advice?

Moderators Augeas Posted August 27, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 27, 2010 I would also agree that you don't run Wipe Free Space (it will work on SSDs, but is rarely necessary. I have never run it). You can't defrag an SSD, and neither can you run secure file deletion, so don't run either of those options. How often to run CC? Difficult to say as we don't know your usage. Run CC's Analyse option now and again. If you are not generating too much junk in a week, then try a fortnight, etc. You really want to get a balance between not building up too much junk and running CC as little as possible. I'm sure I could go for a month without collecting 1 gb of junk.
