Moderators hazelnut Posted February 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2014 See here for more comprehensive info http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/22/us-apple-encryption-idUSBREA1L10220140222 Apple Inc said on Saturday it would issue a software update "very soon" to cut off the ability of spies and hackers to grab email, financial information and other sensitive data from Mac computers. Apple released a fix Friday afternoon for the mobile devices running iOS, and most will update automatically. Once that fix came out, experts dissected it and saw the same fundamental issue in the operating system for Apple's mainstream computers. Bottom line is EVERYONE with an iPad or iPhone should update immediatly and those with macs keep an eye out for the fix for them Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

Derek891
It came out on the news here Saturday night(2/21), the day after my brother had set up his iMac to do his banking online. First thing Monday he will have to call the bank and instruct them not to process any online transactions, period. He also shut down the iMac and has used his Toughbook ever since then. Needless to say, he is not a happy camper. Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. Fields
Winapp2.ini
OT: I've tried cracking the BIOS password on a toughbook (panasonic) before. Turns out they have an additional daughterboard soldered in and you cannot bypass this unless you desolder the board. That being said they still run windows, so security outside of the physical device may be lax winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators DennisD Posted February 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2014 I don't have a Mac or iPhone, but I know someone who does, so thanks for the heads up. I'll pass that on in case they are unaware.
Derek891
That being said they still run windows, so security outside of the physical device may be lax The first thing I did with that machine was upgrade the memory from 512MB to 4GB. Then the 60GB hard drive containing WindowsXP was replaced with a 240GB Crucial M500 solid state drive. Finally, a clean install of Linux Mint gave it a minty freshness. Been running like a champ ever since. Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. Fields
Winapp2.ini
Do you have one of the neat ones with the hot swappable hard drives? winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators mta Posted February 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2014 thanks @Willy2, updated the iPad and iPhone last night. (bloody 1.2gib download for each device - damn) Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. Derek891
Do you have one of the neat ones with the hot swappable hard drives? It's an older model, the CF-74. It is easy to remove and replace the drive caddy, it's only a matter of pushing a release tab on the underside. Ditto for the DVD drive. You could have several different operating systems available if you bought additional caddies and drives. But I am not sure if it is hot swappable, I'll have to consult the user's manual and see if it's possible. Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. Moderators hazelnut Posted February 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2014 Seems like the Apple 'gotofail' flaw (as it is now known as) may extend to the Apple updater too. http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2014/02/23/apples-gotofail-security-mess-extends-to-mail-twitter-imessage-facetime-and-more/ Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Willy2
O.M.G. Seems they wrote one flawed "security" subroutine and used that subroutine in all their software. Moderators mta Posted February 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2014 @mta: Does Apple not provide a (smaller) upgrade patch like MS always does ? I wish they did incremental updates? What a novel idea. I've noticed for quiet some time now, each update/upgrade is a full blown iOS sized release. And how nice it would be to store the update somewhere so it can be applied to all your iDevices. Or have I missed something somewhere and this is possible???
