Moderators mta Posted January 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 23, 2014 I spent 4 years working at a bank here in the mid 90's. One project was converting ATM's. Now admittedly that was a good 10 years before XP was released but the idea of using Windows on what was nothing more than a data terminal would never have crossed our minds. Even then, there were free, better alternatives available. I was surprised to find that they now run Windows. Thanks for the history reminiscing Hazel and for blowing my little mind. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. Moderators Andavari Posted January 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 23, 2014 I'm shocked they run them via Windows. I would've thought they used something way more secure like Linux, or have their own proprietary OS.
Moderators Nergal Posted January 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 23, 2014 Windows on chip runs many many things. I wonder if this why my back switched their ATM interface recently to a HTML/Java based one ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators rridgely Posted January 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 24, 2014 I saw another article that said most atms that run windows use windows embedded which is a different os. The version of that based on xp is still going to be supported for another year or so.
