Gar59
So i used CC cleaners "Wipe Free Space" option about a week ago. First time ive used it. I let it run while i went to bed. When I woke up, My screen told me that I needed to enter boot media into the boot device, or select another boot device.... I could not get passed this screen... So I just did a hard shutdown. When I started up my computer again, I went into my BIOS and noticed that my Hard drive wasnt even being detected. I freaked out thinking my hard drive died or something. Eventually I got it to boot from my HDD again. But now I always get an error "S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad, Backup and replace" or something very close to that. I never had an issue with this HDD until after this thing I did... I just built this computer like 5 months ago. I can still be on the computer it seems... I even played some games... Can someone help me fix this or do I need to go buy a new HDD?.... Running Win 7. My HDD Is a ST31000524AS Barracuda. Please halp =(
kroozer
How much space were you wiping, and how many passes?
Gar59
Its 1T soo... 1T I guess?? 3 passes... I used to do the same thing on my old computer with a older HDD and had no issues
kroozer
I also have the ST31000524AS Barracuda, 5 months old. The disk is partitioned so there's only ≈63GB to wipe. In 1-pass it's done @ ≈13 mins, so there's little stress. Defective disk?
Gar59
well like I said, I had no problems with it untill I did that... Maybe I put waaayyyy too much stress on it with 3 passes? Just doesnt make sense to me because I did that on my old computers HDD... Im actually on the computer right now playing SWTOR just fine... I get a windows pop up message saying its detected a disk error and asks me if I want to start the backup process or ask me later... I dunno... Maybe I just need to buy a new one

Moderators Nergal Posted April 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted April 16, 2012 is it a hybrid drive by any chance? ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators Andavari Posted April 17, 2012 Moderators Share Posted April 17, 2012 You should backup all data on that hard disk as a precaution if it's by chance about to fail. Better safe than sorry!
