VLC vs. MPlayer?

Winapp2.ini

Which do you guys think is better? I've been using VLC for ages, since I feel it has better windows support, but I have had to use MPlayer on several occasions for playback of certain file types.

Should I dump VLC for MPlayer?

What do you guys use for media players?

MPlayer has always played everything I've thrown at it, and like Foobar2000 for music, I love it's minimalist appearance and small footprint.

It also plays part downloaded video files, which is a huge timesaver for being able to check out the specifications and quality of a video file without downloading the entire file.

Why is that?

Something I once read on a video site a long time ago, and found it to be true especially with some media players. Sorry I don't remember the site that stated that, however this search may reveal something:

I used to prefer VLC but now I use MPlayer most of the time.

I've used VLC Portable and even the install version before but with some videos like WMV from record label sites it would often have issues - of course this was many versions ago. MPUI with MPlayer never gives me any issues, unless it's to do with HD video!
