abu aufa
I found something that might tell you if you have a copy of your XP cd files on your pc. Go to this registry key: (regedit.exe) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup Take a look at the SourcePath data column. Chances are that the key might be pointing to the cdrom drive. But if it is still somewhere around we can work with it. yes ,there is sourcePath REG_SZ I:\ what should I do ? Fixes weird stuff sometimes. Piriform Software User Guides

Moderators Andavari Posted June 13, 2009 Moderators Share Posted June 13, 2009 cannot run chkdsk ! You can if you use that BartPE Boot disc I've mentioned. Using the BartPE Boot disc also allows the usage of programs already on your computer such as chkdsk, etc.
metalj
I got another idea: Does the msconfig command works? If it does, (in the general tab) try using the "Normal Startup" and the "Diagnostic Startup". I hope it works. Moderators hazelnut Posted June 15, 2009 Moderators Share Posted June 15, 2009 Sorry to hear that you had to give in, although I know you tried very, very hard. When you get all set up again it may be time for you to look at ways of having image backups etc. Let us know that everything goes ok.
