I found something that might tell you if you have a copy of your XP cd files on your pc.

 

Go to this registry key: (regedit.exe)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

 

Take a look at the SourcePath data column.

 

Chances are that the key might be pointing to the cdrom drive. :(

But if it is still somewhere around we can work with it.

Which drive is I:\ ?

What's in it?

 

If you got nothing there then there's nothing we can do. :(

 

 

Anyways, have you tried chkdsk /F ?

Fixes weird stuff sometimes.

I: is USB flash drive

 

cannot run chkdsk !

I gave up ;) ,complicated procedure and decided to reinstall and roll back SP2

Sorry to hear that you had to give in, although I know you tried very, very hard. :)

 

When you get all set up again it may be time for you to look at ways of having image backups etc.

So far all programs running fine.

 

already backup with ERUNT
